I think some of you are being too harsh. Yes, he was shit, but he only played four matches. The WC doesn't discount the awesome season he's had at Man Utd, where he played in a competition where the quality was higher (the CL) and was pretty darn good. He's a fantastic player, top 3 in the world imo. One bad stretch of games - due to tiredness, imo - doesn't make him a shit player.

It was because Spain would have played Brazil if they had come 2nd, but they came first, so Portugal who came 2nd in their group would play the team who came first in the other group, and I was thinking about Brazil... confused myself there

It's gotta be frustrating to see every England manager shoe-horn Gerrard and Lampard into the same midfield. Capello had the perfect excuse for dropping Gerrard for the WC because he's had a shit season but he really fucked it up. The way the Germans dominated the midfield is testament to the fact that the central midfield area is your biggest problem.

I read an article a while back about why Blatter and FIFA object to goal line technology. It had to do with the fac that FIFA want the rules of the game to be the same at all levels, and with how expensive it is to implement goal-line technology, you wouldn't have a universal set of rules anymore. There's also the problem with the microchip in that it's an adidas system but most leagues don't actually use Nike balls so they're licensing issues and shit, which adds to the cost of implementing the system. The problem with the hawkeye had to do with the fact that even with six or seven cameras, if there a shit load of players in the box, the camera's as useful as the ref's eyes. I agree that the technology should be implemented but there are still issues that need to solved.

Agreed. The Germans were the better team but they would have never scored two goals like they if you guys hadn't pushed up so much. They probably would have scored because they were playing well, but nonetheless, if the second half starts at 2-2 it's a whole different match.

Barry should be fucked. It was him that lost possession easily for the third goal, and it was him who Ozil raped for the fourth goal.

Without that phantom goal, the second half starts 2-2 and it could have really gone either way. It's a shame that you're out because of a fucking shit linesman not doing his job.

They're superbly organised and excellent on the counter. They thoroughly deserve this, with the exception of the phantom goal. International football has always been about playing as a team rather than relying on excellent individuals, which is why the Germans have always been pretty good. No question they've deserved it. But I will never understand how a player like Klose or Podolski can disappear for an entire club season, put on the German shirt and still look like the typical Germanobot superstar. Every year. Without fail. It's outstanding. No matter what happens in club football, they will find 11 players with German passports that will make the semi-finals. They're just well drilled, man. That's the only logical explanation. They played their game today. They sat back, soaked up pressure and counter-attacked, like they've done this entire World Cup. They have a set style of play and the players fit into the formation; the formation isn't fitted around the players.
