  1. JFK will send Hughton to face the cameras after this. Fat Mike's investment will be worth a fraction of it's original cost next season if something doesn't happen soon.
  2. He might have to play against Kaka next game. 3-0. Pure shame.
  3. C Can we not apply to get it extended until the end of the season?
  4. I hate football. Going down - I really think it's going to happen now.
  5. Off topic but what happened to Mick Lowes? He seems to have disappeared off the radio.
  6. A reall battle of the heavyweights with "Big" Sam today. Can see him getting into bother again.
  7. Denies it all in the Chronicle! Apparently wants to stay!? More pork pies?
  8. NUFC target Lucas Neill and Bafetimbi Gomis Jan 15 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United have turned to experienced Aussie international right-back Lucas Neill in order to bolster their injury-ravaged squad. The Chronicle understands that Neill has emerged as one of United’s main targets in the January transfer window with the black- and-whites in dire need of a boost with the treatment room fit to burst. The Magpies have also lodged bids for midfielder Stephane Mbia and St Etienne’s French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis, after Mike Ashley released transfer funds following a plea from Toon boss Joe Kinnear. United are hoping to come to an agreement with West Ham to buy out the remainder of Neill’s contract – which has six months left to run – and transfer chief Dennis Wise’s close relationship with Gianfranco Zola, from their Chelsea days, could help swing the deal. Kinnear confirmed last night that funds had been made available by Toon tycoon Ashley and that the two £4m bids for new faces had been lodged. Kinnear said today: “We’ve bid for two players and we have tried our hardest to get them both here at Newcastle United. “One of them plays for Cameroon – he’s a decent player and is very powerful in the air.” The Chronicle reported last night that Kinnear was interested in signing tall Cameroon international midfielder Mbia from Rennes. However, after assessing their options in the right-back position and, given that the cash-strapped Hammers are desperate to reduce their wage bill, United seem to have cooled their interest in Toulouse right-back Albin Ebondo for now. Mbia is desperate to make the move to the Premier League and with his fellow countryman Geremi edging ever nearer to the exit door at St James’s, the removal of the ex-Real Madrid player from the Toon wage bill will help the move run a little smoother. Talks between Geremi and Turkish outfit Besiktas continued today. Gomis was a target of United last term when Kevin Keegan was in charge, and he is now back on the radar. The striker scored 16 times in 35 French League games last season, but has only struck four in 20 this term. He scored twice on his international debut for France against Ecuador but, despite winning a place in the Euro 2008 squad for Les Bleus, played only a bit-part role in the tournament as the French flopped in Switzerland. The 23-year-old would give United some much-needed options in attack at the moment, with Michael Owen Kinnear’s only fully-fit striker. Yet the acquisition of Neill would give the Magpies a major boost, with influential Senegal international Habib Beye ruled out for 10 weeks. Not only is the tough-tackling defender able to cover in the centre-back position, but his vast experience in the Premier League could help stabilise Kinnear’s side ahead of the upcoming tough run of fixtures that include trips to Blackburn, Man City and West Brom, plus the must win Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland. The 30-year-old had an own-goal chalked off in Saturday’s Premier League game between Newcastle and the Hammers, but is said to be keen to make the move. And in Aussie international team-mate Mark Viduka, he already has a major ally waiting for him on Tyneside. Meanwhile, United are hoping to complete the signing of 18-year-old striker Caio Ferreira from Brazilian side Clube Atletico do Porto, with red tape currently holding up the deal.
  9. Disco Des or Decca? Seriously I don't think we've ever had a chairman as bad as this one.
  10. YES! No Quashie and some loan developments: Kinnear also said: "There has been talk about us signing Nigel Quashie but there is no truth in it whatsoever, so you can kick that into touch." However the manager did say that two loan deals were being discussed. He said: “We are looking to bring in two loan players in the next 48 hours. Both are international players, one is Italian and one is Argentinean. “They are not playing in their current side, but we need them at the moment. We are aware that other clubs are talking to them, so we'll have to wait and see.”
  11. Joe On Lovenkrands Latest By Craig Hope JOE Kinnear says that Newcastle United trialist Peter Lovenkrands has done well during his first two days training with the Magpie squad. The 28-year-old forward - a free agent after buying himself out of his contract with German side Schalke - will spend this week on Tyneside in a bid to win a permanent deal. And Kinnear has been impressed with how the Danish international. "He's done well," said the Toon chief. Article continues>> "We've got an opportunity to bring him on a free transfer and I will make a decision this week. "He's got a terrific track record of scoring goals and has got massive experience. "The deal would be until the end of the season to help us out in this injury crisis. "I did my homework and have kept in contact with his agent. "When I got the news he had bought himself out of his contract I got in straight away. "His wife has gone back to Scotland to have their second child so it might work out well for all of us."
  12. Farrington fables: Newcastle tell Man City to swap Johnson for Given plus cash Jan 11 2009 by Neil Farrington, Sunday Sun Shay Given NEWCASTLE United have rebuffed Manchester City’s opening bid for Shay Given — by demanding midfielder Michael Johnson AND cash in part-exchange. And if City are willing to also part with defender Nedum Onuoha, United would be willing to do a straight swap for their unsettled goalkeeper. Magpies boss Joe Kinnear is seething at City’s cheeky sub-£4 million bid for Given, but will sell the Irishman if Johnson and, ideally, his fellow England Under-21 international Onuoha arrive on Tyneside in return. With Kinnear aware that, as in August, offers for ANY of Newcastle player will be considered this month, the prospect of a part-exchange deal holds particular appeal. West Ham want Johnson, main picture, as part of Newcastle old boy Scott Parker’s proposed move to Eastlands, but City’s 20-year-old would prefer a move north rather than south. After an impressive rise to prominence as a teenager, which attracted the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, Johnson was rewarded with a new five-year contract last summer. But his progress has been stunted by injuries, and while sitting out the last four months with a pelvic problem, Johnson has seen Stephen Ireland shine in his absence. That is why United are now working to convince City to part with a player who would address Kinnear’s desperate need for extra drive and creativity in midfield. And Newcastle are also keen on 22-year-old Onuoha, versatile enough to play right across the back four. Versatility is one reason former Rangers star Peter Lovenkrands is set to arrive at St James’s Park. The 28-year-old’s free agent status is another. Another Scandinavian winger, SK Brann’s Erik Huseklepp, has also caught the eye as Newcastle shop on the cheap. But failure to land Johnson — whose City team-mate Jo, the struggling Brazilian striker, has also been on Kinnear’s radar — could see the Magpies move for Portugal playmaker Raul Meireles. Newcastle’s director of football Dennis Wise has placed Porto ace Meireles, who is now a regular for Portugal and rated at £4m, high on a shortlist of mainly Iberian-based targets, which also includes Real Mallorca striker Pierre Webo. But unless players leave St James’s, Lovenkrands may be Kinnear’s only attacking signing, with a left-back his other main priority. A loan move for Roma’s John Arne Riise is back on the agenda, and Midlands sources suggest Coventry youngster Daniel Fox is a longer-term Toon target.
