  1. Good post. Up until a few days ago everyone on here seemed happy with the way it was going, of course we would have preferred to have spent more money and got cover for our fullbacks but one thing that wasn't in doubt was the quality of the players that had come into the club, so much so that people expect Xisco to be class just because of how good the others have been. Without this set up would we have known that Jonas was prepared to buy out his contract? Or would we have managed to not only find a bright young lad like Bassong but manage to get him here on a trial so the manager can get a good look at him? Someone has been on the ball behind the scenes to make these things happen and it would be a shame to lose that. The only good thing about getting rid of Wise would be an end to the constant media circus claiming everyone is stabbing each other in the back. there were plenty of people not happy with the way we were heading. a couple of posters, afar, unbelievable and me got a lot of criticism for highlighting concerns earlier in the window. i don't think Wise has anything to do with getting in Jonas or Bassong, that was probably more to do with the likes of Vetere & Fucillo (scouting) and Jiminez & Llambias (negotiations). There's no reason why the former two can't be retained as scouts as keegan has worked with scouts all his career. I'm not sure Keegan's ire is necessarily directed at the former two, more likely the latter two. while they got in a few players they also missed out on plenty more leaving us with a good number fewer than what we needed. i bet when they missed out on Modric, despite having the owner of his club and his agent in the city, that Keegan was pissed off but was given assurances that things would change. they didn't so Keegan got upset. though there could be more to it than that, or it could be different. The comment about the way it was going was in regards to the recruitment team and the standard of players we've pulled in, although feel free to give yourself another self congratulatory pat on the back for showing concern about not getting enough players in. that's not like you Baggio. disappointing that you resort to crap like this because you can't construct an adequate response. Because you misunderstood the point I was making? As I said, people were disappointed that we didn't strengthen further but nobody had a problem with the set up and the quality of player being brought in, it's only since Keegan threw his toys out of the pram that people seem outraged at the likes of Dennis Wise. Are you having a laugh? You had a problem with the amount of money spent didn't you? That and Jonas must be s*** because he didn't cost any money. I've explained this countless times, but since you're slow I'll try it one more time: I had concerns about the quality of player brought in, and still have. Jonas looks a shrewd buy, so I'll give them that (I didn't at the time, but NOT because he came on the cheap), and Collocini is a class defender and they splashed the cash on him, so happy about that, but all the others are of a very low profile for a Premiership intent on going places. They're gambles so to speak, and with what Ashley & Co have been telling us we were entitled to expect more, much more. It's been mostly talk and precious little action with regards to transfer targets. I'm glad you're happy, I'm not and it seems Keegan is also less than impressed.

The concerns were about getting the right players in and Ashley's ambition with the club. Seems like the doom mongers were in good company.
  4. How do you know how much their owners will be willing to splash next season? From what they've done this transfer window I would suggest it's pretty clear they have set their sights high and are willing to invest accordingly. Oh, and didn't they spend a lot last season as well, only the level of player they could attract was lower because they had only just come up and were prime candidates to go down. As they continue to progress they will be able to attract a higher profile of player, and seeing as they've spent big in every major transfer window since their takeover I would like to know what makes you think it will stop soon?
  5. I'm happy with the players we've signed, I haven't seen these 2 new lads play before but I'm excited by the unknown and in KK we have the man to develop such players and to at least have them contributing in a positive way. Obviously I'd liked us to have signed more because we are short in some areas and indeed in quality and even Premiership experience, with only Guthrie having any out of those who were signed. But this is a long-term thing, there should be no rush especially if that means we panic buy, buy players for the sake of it or go for 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice players. I'm positive within a season or two we'll have added more quality to the squad and greater depth too. Remember no side is ever complete and I take that kind of view regardless of our current position. We'll never have enough quality and depth whether we're in mid-table or top of the league, you can always do with more and will more often than not always need more. I am not happy with the sale of Faye because we lost a competent defender but I can understand why we sold him and if he was indeed unhappy there really is no point in keeping such a player. I was delighted we got £12m for Milner which is great money but as I said at the time I don't think KK would be happy with that, not if we didn't replace him anyway which we haven't so that overall transfer hasn't quite worked out. Getting back to KK, he's obviously unhappy and you can imagine the club's transfer dealings play a part in that which isn't good and does put a negative angle on our summer dealings but I won't change my general opinion of our summer dealings because I think we've done well to get in the players we have and their respective qualities and attributes are things that can only improve us I feel. In that respect I'm happy and a good job well done. However I'm not happy that we've sold some players without really replacing them and this isn't a good job well done. And if KK isn't happy with things in general, despite my hopes and positive attitude towards the set-up and our summer dealings, I can only feel the same way about things on reflection as KK is obviously upset at something. I reiterate though that I don't think the players we've bought have left him unhappy, he'll be like any manager in that the more the merrier. Perhaps a few more in certain areas and a few more he also wanted himself wouldn't go amiss and if we do have to sell players, we really should try and replace them or wait until we have replacements lined up, that and at least allow the manager some say which is where I personally feel KK's unrest lies with. Fair enough! Did you even read that or did you just agee to shut him up? I read it and agreed with everything except for the Faye comment, because I find it inconceivable he would have wanted to leave us for Stoke unless he was under the impression he would play second fiddle this upcoming season (unlikely). To focus on that detail would have been knitpicking though, it's a fair evaluation of the situation and I can see where he's coming from, even though the fact remains I personally feel we haven't strengthened enough in terms of player quality and quantity, but that's mainly because we have brought in so many unknowns it's hard to judge. Time will tell if the penny pinching and looking for low profile players will have been succesful or we will be stuck with a load of deadwood in a few season's time..

  7. Paying (slightly) over the odds to get players of a quality level that help the club progress but wouldnt perhaps have come due to the club currently being less attractive due to a few mediocre seasons, geographic location, no European football or whatever is exactly what we should have been doing more these last couple of months. Investment doesn't guarantee succes, but it certainly increases the likelihood of it.
  8. Sweet bejesus. If a club wants to move up the Premiership table they need to invest, now more so than ever. I don't even think their current strategy is more risky than a cautious one where they risk relegation by investing less because if they did relegate it would be more difficult than ever coming back up. If their owners have the spending power, they are absolutely doing the right thing ensuring they keep up. Has our own lack of ambition deluded some fans into thinking ambition is a bad thing?
  9. Source? Vicious rumour It looked that way after yesterday evening´s statement, but surely not after today´s? Has Keegan been spotted in person today?
  10. HTT, there is a noticeable difference in your vision of what went on this transfer window between before and after this news broke it seems. I respect you mainly focus on what Keegan thinks of it all and you're happy if he is (which he clearly isn't), but I'm just wondering how you evaluate the transfer window in hindsight knowing Keegan seems less than impressed about it all, albeit not necessarily with regards to the end result of the dealings (although I wouldn't be surprised if he is less than happy about it, I know I am)?
  11. I don't think this is an appropriate time to look at Sunlun and speculate what may happen to them, let alone have some fun at their expense. They have strengthened their squad quite significantly, to the extent where they don't realistically need to prepare for relegation, and I think most people would agree they seem to be moving in the right direction.
  12. So did he turn up for training this morning, or is he still hiding in a cave in Afghanistan?
  13. Wonder how the Man U fans feel about these latest developments? Looks like they may soon play second fiddle to a club in their own city no less..
  14. Aye, completely oblivious to what has been going on all day long..
  15. Indeed.. BooBoo = Nostradamous in disguise..?
  16. Man, this transfer window is ending worse than the biggest 'doom monger' could have predicted. I feel sick, but I am not entirely surprised by this turn of events. I wonder how it feels for the people who were in the 'everything's dandy, just have a little patience' camp..
  17. I can't see anybody of any quality wanting to come in after this disastrous transfer window. Brace yourselves for Wise taking over. The reception he will het will be interesting vs Hull
  18. Would hope not nowt happening anywhere now gone a bit boring Heart says yes, head says no, head wins.
  19. On the other hand when you look around the league there are players scoring more that probably aren't on a 3rd of what Owen is being offered. Yakubu, Santa Cruz, Carew, Berbatov, and Keane were all more productive than him last season. I won't mention Benjani because he's s****. Do those guys come free or will we have to pay a transfer fee? Did you factor that in? None of them came for significantly more than 10 million and their wages will be well, well below Owen's reported (offered) wages. Also, there would be an incoming transfer fee for Owen, so a deal for a player like this would be cost neutral financially.
  20. Unbelievable

    Sad sesh

GMT i think throughout europe Cheers
  21. Unbelievable

    Sad sesh

Is the transfer deadline in England at 12pm CET or 12pm GMT, and if it's the latter, can international transfers happen in the last hour?
  22. The figures bandied about are just guesses aren't they though? And even if the £120k is correct, we'll surely have done something to protect ourselves in case of his injuries recurring - I imagine there will be some kind of build up to that figure based on appearances and stuff. I'd f***ing hope so anyway. Btw don't forget he held us to ransom in the first place because it was pretty clear he didn't really want to come here. So we've already screwed ourself from that front and set the precedent. Also don't forget what KK would think. I'm sure he doesn't care about wages, he'd just see one of his best players leaving. I think the difference with Milner going is clear, just in case you bring it up. Agreed about the KK part.. It's not because you make a mistake once, that it is the logical thing to do it again though. If this is what KK wants than the club is doing the right thing in making it happen, but I can personally disagree with Keegan's judgement in this matter, can't I?
