  1. Of course he was, and he was rightly dropped. After he scored vs the US I would have reinstated him as my first choice is all.
  2. I think he wants Lukaku to face the tired legs Lukaku doesn't have that pace Origi has though. Also, I think it will be a slap in the face for Lukaku who must have thought he would be the main man in attack for them after Benteke got injured. I would want my main striker to be as confident as he possibly could be. Benching him isn't going to achieve that.
  3. I think Wilmots is mad to have started Origi after Lukaku scored that all important goal vs USA. Should have trusted his main man and kept the pace of Origi as a weapon to bring on against tired legs.
  4. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/06/sports/worldcup/for-bellicose-brazil-payback-carries-heavy-price-loss-of-neymar.html?smid=tw-share Excellent analysis that
  5. I have no idea what I should be hoping for from this match. I think Argentina are the better side, so avoiding them would be good, but I don't believe Holland will be good enough to beat either (providing we get passed Costa Rica, which is not exactly a given evidently), and it would be much worse if neighboring country Belgium beat us to progress to a World Cup final. It would be much more nerve wracking having to play "little brother" Belgium than "big favourite" Argentina. Ideal scenario would be Belgium beat the Argies, we beat Costa Rica, then we beat the Belgians in the semis, but that would be to good to be true..
  6. Pfff, my 16 may have been garbage for the most part, at least they got on the pitch..
  7. Loving this. I only have DeBruyne this match btw, but good to see the teamsheets are catching some of you out
  8. I know your team has exceeded expectations but how much of a miss will Strootman be at the business end of things? (Heard good things about him last season at Roma but never really seen much of him) Strootman is actually quite similar to Van Bommel I would say, the closest we've got. Van Gaal has said that the Strootman injury is what made him rethink our tactics. The horrible 532 we're seeing today is a direct result of this. I would qualify it as a huge miss; we will never know if we would have got this far with him playing in our traditional 433, but I think we would certainly be more dominant in matches, if not a little more vulnerable defensively. The one player we absolutely can't do without however, is Arjen Robben. He's been sensational and has grown to become a true leader on and off the pitch. You could argue by being set up more defensively and letting the opponent come at us it is actually getting the best out of him too, as he gets more space to run in. What I also quite like about this set up is that if we go a goal down we have the ability to alter our approach to the game completely by bringing on a fresh winger like Depay. This was especially evident against Mexico for example, but Chile also, when we were simply a completely different animal in the last 20 minutes of the game. This is a fantastic weapon to have, and we might not be as efficient playing more attacking from the off.
  9. I wish we had somebody like Van Bommel in our team now. Without De Jong we might beat Costa Rica, but I fear Argentina or Belgium will have the freedom of the park in midfield. Van Bommel and De Jong may be dirty c***s, but they won't just let the opponent walk past them like the others will. Van Bommel could actually play a bit as well. Edit: what Mole said
  10. A lot of people underestimated us, even laughed at some of the defenders' names because they'd never heard of them, and were adamant we would not get out of the group stage. I felt we could do much better than that, but I am surprised we could go as deep as the semis. Just shows what a few very good players and a bit of organisation can do. That said, we first have to beat Costa Rica, and I'm worried we won't.
  11. Probable Holland lineup for tonight: http://www.vi.nl/upload/c4218ff1-ba5e-484c-978c-c6792e876c13_OranjeversusCostaRica.jpg Depay and Kuijt as wing backs..
  12. Van Rijn another option to replace Debuchy, according to the Ronny: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-could-return-ajax-7374897 Prefer Janmaat myself.
  13. Sweet Jesus, that must be all the high scorers from yesterday's games.
  14. Taken to hospital according to the Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/worldcup/neymar-injury-striker-taken-to-hospital-after-being-taken-off-on-a-stretcher-in-win-over-colombia-9586082.html
  15. I have 6 left to play, and got 46 from the 5 that will remain in my team (56 if I decide James stays captain, currently undecided). Hummels saved the day, even if I didn't captain him in the end. But I agree, I'd rather have more players left to play and fewer points. 50 odd points is a big gap to make up though.
  16. Yeah, same. I will do very well to even get to 100 points this round.. You have a single man who has about half the points of my 8 I know. It's the other 9 that are the problem.
