  1. Fred has been abysmal in the World Cup, but this team has played this tactic the last 18months and Fred has a 0.5 goal ratio per game for the national side, higher than most players in the world. Helps when you're playing Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, Canada etc Huh? Scored 2x England, 3x Italy, 1x Argentina, 2x Spain, 1x Uruguay. Half his goals has come against those big teams. Some against the okish teams. He's been terrible in this World Cup and I hope he doesn't start, but don't post that s*** TDick. FYP
  2. He did well, considering Feyenoord have absolutely no money to invest in players. Brought along a lot of young players and got decent results.
  3. So who do we think will go through? Brazil, Germany, Holland and Argentina or will there be upsets?
  4. He looked terrible in the games he played in the WC apart from Spain where everybody was good I wouldn't say terrible, but disappointing most certainly. Then again, a lot of players haven't played as well as they can. Based on this World Cup you wouldn't even contemplate signing someone like Higuain for example.. If this happens it will be because the club will have scouted him over a longer time and earmarked him as a potential Debuchy replacement. I can see why tbh. Ya to be honest the world cup was the first time I saw him play so can't really judge him much. What ever happened that young Willems lad that played left back for Holland in the last euros? A million injuries happened to Willems

  6. Haven't seen him much. Any good? Haven't seen tonnes of himself, but in a fair few Feyenoord games I saw last season he was directly responsible for a lot of goals. Better going forward than defending and didn't appear to have much "heart" to me either. Unbelievable will have some good knowledge on him. I like him, a lot actually. Similar to Debuchy in style, in that he is a modern full back who loves to go forward, sometimes at the expense of his defensive duties. He's been disappointing at the World Cup as he has failed to contribute to our attacking play, but at Feyenoord he has been excellent for the last two seasons. Good age, probably available for around 5 million due to contract expiring next year. I approve.
  7. Maybe because he's not a midfielder?
  8. Michu maybe? When he was good obviously, from the half a dozen times i watched him he seemed a technically superior version of him. Another decent shout, although I would probably die if De Jong had an impact like Michu's first season.
  9. Just noticed Ricky van Wolfswinkel is with the same agent as De Jong. We've been interested in him before, haven't we? What are the odds we will try to get him in on the cheap from relegated Norwich after a disappointing season? His value must have dropped significantly, which must look appealing to our spreadsheet brigade.
  10. I know he was Ajax's captain but was he much of a leader on the pitch as well? Just I think that is something that we 've been missing for a while. He was, although not in a shout out loud, rile 'm up kind of way. He seems an intelligent young man who commands respect from other players. Obviously being new to the club I wouldn't expect him to come in and start behaving like a leader off the bat.
  11. How would you compare him with Gouffran? There's another player who doesn't quite seem to be an out and out striker and ends up playing on the wing. Well, it's hard to compare since they play in slightly different positions. I see Goufran more as a centre forward who can play out wide, whereas De Jong is more of an attacking midfield player who can play centre forward. De Jong is also more consistent I think, with slightly better pace and technique. I just worry for De Jong on that score when I read Pardew quotes that he's overjoyed to get a striker through the door. Gouffran isn't a wide player at all, and after a year and a half I still don't know if he's a striker. I hope Pards realises that De Jong will need to play off a proper centre forward, which we still haven't signed. Most Ajax fans seem to think Siem de Jong's best position was actually as a false number 9 due to good movement, finishing and being able to hold the ball up. Obviously that would not work with our long ball "strategy". Will certainly be interesting to see how Pardew (sigh) plans to use him.
  12. Good player. Hope he does well.

  14. So his best position is a withdrawn role behind a main striker. Is he any good in the middle of the park i.e. central midfield? I don't know, since that's not where he played for Ajax.
  15. What I meant by that is that he's experienced enough to be of use straight away yet his best years should be in front of him.
  16. I've been thinking who he's comparable to. Poor man's Mueller maybe, more dynamic version of Nolan, but I think the closest I can think of is actually Clint Dempsey in his Fulham days. Not great technically or a creative force, but a player with great determination, useful technique, good movement and finishing. If he has put his injuries behind him we've got ourselves a nice little player at a good age here.
  17. He is a forward tbh. Those who are saying Cabaye replacement can't have seen him play much. De Jong plays about 30 yards further forward.
  18. Pwah, nee bother. I will strike at the final stage, so you won't be able to strike back..
