  1. Who could he play either side of Cisse? Obertan's not good enough to start, Jonas is utterly s*** up there, and Marveaux is better in a deeper role. I'm disgusted the likes of Shola and Jonas are starting, but it goes way further than Pardew. He's being f***ed over too. That said, fail to win today and he'll lose whatever support I have for him. Pardew can't have it both ways though as he was praising the board in the summer for keeping the squad together. You know it's perfectly possible to praise keeping the squad together (i.e. not sell of the likes of Ben Arfa and Cabaye when there must have been suitors), whilst at the same time criticising them for the lack of incomings/focus on the wrong positions. I know, because I was in that camp personally.
  2. Put the opposition striker onside by strolling back leisurely is my bet
  3. Some absolutely shocking Pardew quotes in there. He clearly doesn't trust Mike & Derek to deliver what he requires anymore either and is trying to get the fans on his side for the inevitable backlash:
  4. Are you aware we have made a substantial profit on transfer dealings in every season under Mike Ashley bar his first? so ? why look at that financial aspect in isolation ? Because obviously it is rather telling when it comes to determining which of those two scenarios tollemache presented, i.e. just happy to tick over until taken over or still very much determined to try and make the club successful) is the more likely.

  6. With the new TV money deal coming into effect next season I'd expect average player wages to increase massively over the next few years. From that perspective 100k for an important first team player at a top Premiership club will be par for the course in the near future I'd expect, as silly as that sounds objectively (100k per week FFS).
  7. Really? I think it's fairly obvious from his (lack of) actions which of those two scenarios is the reality. The only "test" would be if somebody offered him his money back or thereabouts. He'd be off like a shot.
  8. As jdckelly has argued above, this looks a lot worse at first glance. Time will tell if it's a masterstroke or the blunder it currently seems.
  9. Excellent prospect available at a good price in a position where we are short for cover. No brainer, get him in.

I understand where you're coming from but at this point we have to ask ourselves if it is better to persist with something that is clearly not working or take a gamble and go for somebody different with a proven track record. I take nothing away from Pardew's achievements from last season, the results were above any realistic expectations for our squad, and it has earned him some leeway now things are not going so well, especially considering the extenuating circumstances of injuries, suspensions, lack of investment etcetra, but the signs are there that he is not the man who can turn this thing around. Important players are leaving the club or making comments they may consider doing so unless we show more ambition, we are not anywhere near as defensively solid as we were last year (the foundation of our success last season) and Pardew's public statements are becoming increasingly critical of his players and his employers. In short, he appears to be losing grip, and being where we are in the table we have to ask ourselves if we can take the risk on him turning things around if it means we may well go down if he can't. It hasn't earned him much leeway if everyone wants him sacked. I know what you mean in general though, if there was a brilliant manager ready to come in and head up a multi-year project I would go for it as well probably. It has earned him leeway in that we wouldn't be having this debate if we were safely, if unspectacularly midtable. We overachieved last season no doubt about it, and despite his very own public claims of challenging for top 4, I think most people on here would have been content with an up and down season in terms of results as long as there was some decent football on offer and a good vive about the club/players. At the moment, we are facing the prospect of being dragged into a relegation battle if we don't turn things around sharpishly. I don't think this is a risk worth taking, considering actual relegation could well spell disaster for the long term future of the club. Well OK, but he wouldn't really need leeway if we weren't doing badly. And when we are his leeway doesn't apply. Your view on whether he'll turn it around or not is fair enough obviously. Well, for me "some leeway" doesn't go as far as sitting around apathically as we go down without a whisper, that's where I draw the line.
