He was actually in talks with Ajax to renew his contract apparently according to that Ajax forum, but Ajax have stalled negotiations recently.

£5M-£7M spent on a replacement for Guthrie seems just very strange though. Yeah i think Amalfitano is Guthrie's replacement..... this is more a quality addition to the squad that can play DM and in both fullback positions. Disagree from what little i've seen of both... Amalfitano appears more of an attacking midfielder so replaces Lovenkrands for me whereas Anita seems to player deeper... Either way they both look like technical upgrades... Are you seriously suggesting Anita would be a Guthrie replacement as in a mere squad player for us? Why would he leave Ajax where he is a guaranteed starter and in the CL to sit on our bench? Also, can't see us spending >10m on a "Guthrie replacement".

I've not read any concrete figures. The agent has told VI that he knows the amount and understands why Ajax turned it down, so it's safe to assume we're not even close/trying it on..

How much would you go to? As I've said in the transfer rumours thread earlier I'm probably biased as I loathe Ajax, but I don't rate him that highly. Having consulted an Ajax forum they certainly seem to like him though, so maybe I should put the blinkers off with regards to him. They're talking about not letting him go for under 15 million euros though, so if Ajax genuinely don't want to sell I can't see us shelling out the money required to bring him in, and (as far as I am concerned) rightfully so.
