  1. Was there not be a possibility that Ben Arfa could make the bench for this one?
  2. From nufc.com: Window latest #1: Still trying for two Official confirmation was forthcoming from Newcastle on Tuesday evening that the permanent transfers of both Davide Santon and Rob Elliot had been concluded. And from what we can gather, attempts continue to secure a further two signings on Wednesday - we're uncertain of who the targets are and whether loan or permanent deals are in the offing. The transfer window closes on Wednesday @ 11pm Could one be a back up option to the other? I'd be astonished if we brought in 2 new first team players tomorrow, but it looks as if theres hope.
  3. 8 midfielders, 2 centre backs and a goalkeeper. Interesting
  4. Could have done, not any more though. They haven't realised it yet but they are in the same position as us - massive profit on transfers since January, owner not spending, cutting wage bill, star striker not replaced, sold one of their most talented players to Liverpool. They have been some of the biggest spenders in the last 5 years but that is over now and they have acheived nothing. It'll be back to normal for them from now on.
  5. I'd like to see Ranger fuck off. Best is never going to be a top player but he can count himself very unlucky that we seem to be trying to show him the door. I thought he was making up for what he lacked with a good attitude - and I think he could still get better. In fact he could well be the best striker we have atm, depending on Ba
  6. I've Youtubed him and I can confirm that on an 8 inch screen and at a distance I can't tell the difference between him and Obafemi Martins. Also looks like he can't kick the ball with his right foot at all
  7. Thread entitled "Bruce out" has 562 replies so far even though it was only started at 1.37pm yesterday. I thought Bruce and his exciting new side were ready to storm to the top half after setting the summer transfer window alight. Has something changed?
  8. Wenger came across as one of the most calm and collected managers around when he first arrived in England. Lawrenson got it right last night when he compared him to a Basil Fawlty character now. He probably won't be the first one to go, but you do get the sense that the end is coming for Wenger
  9. Sounds a very promising player - could well be exactly what we need in 12 months or so

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Will have been nearly a year to the day since his last competitive start if he makes it back v Wolves. De Jong broke his leg on October 3rd.

    Lee Cattermole

5 red cards in his career already. Hes only 23. Could be sent off in any game he plays from what I've seen
  12. I suppose he could possibly one day make the squad - the England side is fucking dreadful and theres not that many right backs around that I can think of. I hope not though as England really will be fucked if Simpsons lining up for them
  13. just being interviewed by Stan Collymore on talksport. Collymore said 'mark my words, he will be an England international' after Simpson finished his interview by saying he hoped to get a call up
  14. 2nd post in this one: http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=619517
  15. really hope Bruce doesnt go anywhere
  16. Was very very assured today. Became clear in the 2nd half of last season that he has all the attributes- happy with him as number 1

    Lee Cattermole

Banned from pubs in Middlesbrough as part of their Pub Watch scheme. Thought he crashed around fairly effectively for 60 mins and then lost his discipline (as always) and was shit.
  18. Pleased to see he likes to get stuck in. Has played his part in 2 clean sheets in a row IMO
  19. Excellent today, thought he turned the game for us

    Alan Pardew

Hes not been perfect but he is operating as a manager who has almost no control over transfers. Took over in December and lost his star player in January - got a 12th place finish (although it should have been 10th). Has negotiated the first 2 games of this season still without a striker and a left back and has done it as well as you could hope. Hes far from perfect, I don't like his subs sometimes (though no complaints today really) and he hasnt helped himself with comments in the press but overall hes doing a good enough job. What are people expecting from him?
  21. He was poor today actually. Is he a muslim? They are on Ramadan - cannot eat beween sunrise (about 5.30am) and sunset. Marveaux and Ba are Muslims - possible reason for their limited roles so far. It really would be difficult for an athlete to observe that. You could not possibly be at your best in Tiote's position if you are observing those conditions.

    Alan Pardew

tactical genius not buying a left back so we could play Ryan Taylor.
  23. Happy with that team - Ba deserves a place on the bench after last week. Obertan will add some pace, someone for Cabaye and Barton to hit. Last week we had nothing from the left becuase Jonas isn't anywhere near as effective going forward without Enrique, and not alot from the right without Carroll in the box for Barton to hit. We were solid defensively, a change to add a bit of width and pace in attack is a good one IMO Unchanged team for the Mackems. Only 2 new players. This is the team thats been getting stuffed every week since January. If they start as poorly as they did last week their crowd will get edgy (like last year) our midfield will control it - it is better than theirs - and they will crumble.

    Alan Pardew

Think hes done quite a good job, if not spectacular. 12th place wasn't a bad finishing position considering we were without Carroll most of the time he was here. True he has talked complete nonsense during the transfer window but I'm sure he doesn't want to look completely stupid. Hes being led a song and dance like the rest of us. Of course he shouldn't have been near the job in the first place but hes here now and getting on his back 1 game into the season seems more than a little pointless. Does anyone really think we could get anyone better? Could we get anyone who actually could keep promises about transfers? Of course not. Obviously he shouldn't make those promises in the first place, but its quite a minor flaw really. If Pardew left we'd be looking for a replacement that could well be of the Joe Kinnear calibre of manager, then we'd have a manager that was really worth hating.
