I just feel fairly sad now. One match shouldn't completely change your mindset on something but we were so bad yesterday that changing players feels like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. They played like absolute strangers so I fear it's not really a case of just making alterations to the line-up... there was a complete void of chemistry and identity. Repairing that requires an inherent change. I dearly hope it was just a very bad day at the office but I was bowled over by how bad it was. They reminded me of a team in the final throes of a manager's era, destined for relegation. I really don't want it to end like this for Southgate. He's done a brilliant job with England but the race is looking very much run at this point.

Ayoze was great there but that chance was him all over. opted for the casual finish ahead of squaring it to his mate for a sweaty finish.

I'm a fully paid up member of the "just get through the group" brigade but that performance was deeply concerning. We've looked unimpressive before but that was abhorrent and an indication that we're getting worse not better. Taking a glass half full approach you might say the humid conditions and bad pitch were a contributing factor cos Denmark were crap as well, but England played like complete strangers today. Abandoning his preferred approach obviously has to be the first objective but tbh it feels like he needs to go from scratch. I don't think the Phillips comment is scandalous in isolation cos he's done really well for England in the past - but ffs we don't need Kalvin Phillips to make this team tick.

That was a truly horrendous performance; easily the worst I can recall in a tournament under Southgate. Didn't see the Belgium defeat in 2018. That was absolutely appalling. I didn't think we would win this tournament but I think it's absolutely clear that there isn't a cat in hell's chance. Obviously I've defended Southgate and I absolutely stand by that defence, but that was a horror show. That wasn't just bad, there was an absence of any amount of tactical definition. The players looked like they met yesterday. I take solace from the fact that the opponents were shit too and barely looked like winning against a terrible England team, leaving me to wonder if the conditions were partially responsible. I'm clutching though.

The tendency to sit back is so inherent now, like. The manager isn't instructing them to sit on the 18 yard line the moment we go ahead, but it points to a team that isn't well drilled. Once they have the lead they just default to defending cos they don't actually know what to do next. Really poor.
