Nope. Fred wasn't an idiot. The facts on that beg to differ! Whatever criticism you have of Fred (and plenty is justified), no way was he an idiot. He helped make a massive success of a club about to drop into the third tier. [/NE5] FYP.

That's the difference a few wins (and a goal) makes. We'll see a different set of opinions soon. I don't think anyone on here will be happy to see Smith and Nolan as our central midfield pairing at the start of the next season. Ideally we'd all like a creative central midfielder who can bring some mobility to our central midfield. Howver credit is due where credit is due, Nolan's goals DID get us a hell of a lot of points, and if it weren't for his goals we'd be much lower down the table. From what I've seen of Nolan, he doesn't get involved as much as he should beause his general lack of mobility however when he does get on the ball he's an intelligent player. So there Nolan's a shit premierleague player due to his lack of mobility, but down here in the championship I think he did a decent job despite looking like shit. Now I'm sure everyone on here, including Hughton would rather have Kaka in our central midfield than Nolan, but lets be honest, Chris Hughton has had to severely cut our wage bill whilst trying to build our paper-thin squad to last the season and mount a promotion challenge. I think he's done quite well. Yes Hughton hasn't dropped Nolan much this seaon, but let me ask you this, who would you have rather played? I mean Barton was injured, lets not even talk about Butt. That leaves us with, Guthrie, Smith and Nolan who we've seen a lot of this season. More often than not when Smith and Nolan was paired, it was when one of our wingers were injured and Guthrie had to be moved out to the wing. If we had a certain Kaka sitting on our bench, and yet Hughton was insisting on Nolan starting in central mid, I'd be calling for his head too. Yeah he's dogshit but he's the best we've got and he's done an alright job. I think Hughton has done well with the shit he has. Yes we'd like to have signed a central midfielder but, in the January transfer window Hughton signed a right winger, 2 back up centre halves, a left back on loan and a back up strike. I think that's good activity for one transfer window, and he did this while spending hardly any money at all. Priority was filling the gaping hole left by Taylor and Enrique getting injured, and he's done that well. My faith in Hughton signing a better cental midfielder before next season lies entirely in the Wayne Routledge transfer. Noone here expected Hughton to sign a player like Routledge, everyone could see that our team was unbalanced with all our attacks coming from our left, we all thought Hughton was a daft prick who couldn't see this and would settle with Pancrate, it was just one of those things which we fans could see but the manager just didn't seem able to. How often have you felt that way since Sir Bobby left? I've felt that way many times, where our problems were so blatant but the manager didn't address them or just didn't seem to know. Well Hughton did see it and he signed Routledged which has drastically improved our squad. Because of this transfer I believe he's not as stupid as many people think he is, and I believe he will sign a central midfielder. I also think Hughton is learning is trade and is improving, like our later games he's been fielding a slightly more offensive team, I think he's actually a better manager now than he was when he was our caretaker in the premierleague. Learning his fekin trade he's been in the game 40yrs ffs!!!112233

You've got some front, haven't you? Your appraisal of Enrique is one of the most inaccurate the forum has ever seen.

Again I ask, do you know him? So you have to be a military grade stalker before you can pass cursory judgement on a player? Strange.

I'm taking £10 bets with any fucker on here that CH will be gone by Xmas? Savvy? What's that got to do with me? Put your money where your mouth is. Seems to be that you can't read but since i've got nothing better to do, i'll explain. I implied that those who base our potential performance in the premiership next year, on our performance last year, are ignoring certain factors. I didn't say they would do a good job, or that i believe Hughton will be in charge by Christmas. Savvy? Fair enough. I'm not saying he's totally at fault either....I'm just saying he isn't a PL manager and the quicker we get a new one the better...I'd rather we didn't wait till Christmas with the squad demoralised and scattered psychologically.

To say he has been a disgrace, is nothing short of embarrasing TBF. Nolan's attitude has been brilliant and he has brought a dozen goals to the team. To say that he lacks fitness and ability on the ball would be accurate enough but to say he has been a disgrace is laughable. His attitude on the pitch is good. That however, is the easy part. I'm mystified by Nolan sometimes - the guy is a bit of a contradiction. He does seem to care, and he has good attitude on the pitch. I just can't understand why that attitude doesn't drive him to sort his fitness out. Maybe he is trying, I don't know. He's the last white Nigerian, the geezer is 42.

The most expensive squad is doing alright in the CCC shockah!!1 I bet the smogs squad wasn't cheap and they aren't doing that well and they have a "proper" manager. Mentioning the cost of the squad is below you anyway Parky, how many of them are worth the money they cost? There are players that cost a tenth of what some of ours cost cost in fee and wages but have performed much better than them. You are too intelligent for that Parky, was a bit of a lazy comment. I'll let this go as you said I was intellgent.

Sheer stupidity?

Rob you do come across against all your best efforts as some kind of muppet.

That bit in bold is wrong, in my opinion. Sorry mate. I can't be arsed to go any deeper but I massively doubt group of professional footballers - some of whom are on upwards of £50,000 per week - basically "can't play football". It's a massive cover-up/cop-out for Chris Hughton to say that these lads don't play good football simply because they aren't capable of it, we have seen glimpses of some great stuff this season - a real quality manager would have meant those glimpses were more the norm. Yup.
-
Yeah but when we get promoted we'll have to ditch him....
-
Those two have been top notch this season.

The common theme is that the game is about space. The first thing I look at with a good manager is where the players are going without the ball. Most of our lot go nowhere, Routledge has been good the little I've seen of him mind.
-
At least Shearer tried to change things in the short time that he was here. Well he talked publicly about all the changes but it wasn't really evident where it mattered, on the pitch. Take AS over Hughton any day of the week and I'm not a big Shearer as manager fanboy either!1

I think Ashley will sack Hughton.
-
It's a very dark and powerful magic.
-
And Allardyce for that matter. Players probably tell him to keep quiet during training.
-
There is some truth in that.

Got away with it again today. Totally outplayed.

By PAT SHEEHAN Published: Today Add a comment Add a comment (1) CHRIS HUGHTON has put recruitment plans in place for next season, with the return of Titus Bramble high on his list. Newcastle are favourites to get back into the top flight and boss Hughton is also keen on Bramble's Wigan team-mate Ben Watson. Midfielder Watson, a dead ringer for Prince Harry, joined Wigan from Crystal Palace for £2million in January last year but has made just six league starts for them. Bramble was shipped out of Newcastle by Sam Allardyce in 2007 with the Latics snapping up the powerful centre-half on a free. But Hughton values the 28-year-old's experience and would welcome him back.
