Where's MIck?

Silly picking Jonas over Di Maria, I suppose Maradona knows what he's doing.
-
He's not a YTS apprentice Skirge, he's a full Argentinian international for God's sake!!! Don't get me wrong, I like Jonas, but his end product is piss poor for us. I've been looking at his stats and one site says he's provided 4 assists and another says 2 assists, whatever the total is it's just not good enough for a player of his undoubted ability. He's pretty crap really. Good close skills and beats the odd man, but hardly any end product to speak of. Also lately he's started giving the ball away a lot. Yeh he must be - so crap he's been picked for Argentina, and we all know how crap they are as a whole. Player plays for Argentina so he must be alright. He does next to nothing for us. What he does for us is what we're discussing not whether he plays for Argentina. 4 assist and 0 goals in 22 odd games. Bernard Mendy has more. Assists as a stat don't really mean anything. Take C.Ronaldo last season, I think he had about 10 assists last season, yet he would've been heavily involved in about 15-20 more goals without having an assist. As they say...there's lies, damned lies and statistics. Jonas ain't heavily involved with much. Runs back a lot and can hold the ball with his close skills, yet time and time again releases it badly.

We was in Europe consistently and among the elite teams in England. Ok i will come at this from a different angle what could Shepherd have done more in Sir Bobby's campaign to 'sustain' a challenge? I remember one season when we was top at the start of December, sounds like a club running well to me Did he need to employ a Director of Football, spend more on youth? just what buddy, you have got me very curious. Strengthened a team that had lost a lot of its swagger after the Man U 2-6 ahead of the Partizan game? Handled the end of Robson's reign more intelligently? Not appointed Souness? Not thrown so much money at Souness? Not borrowed more money to deal with the effect of earlier borrowings? Not appointed Roeder? Generally, also, yes, throughout the old board's reign we should have paid a lot more attention to developing players, and had some kind of better scouting set-up that might have seen us not spend quite so much money on dross (you're always going to have signings that don't work out, but we really did waste a lot of money on players such as Marcelino, Luque, Viana, Boumsong...). We were also always crap at handling succession, with wild swings of approach and style from one manager to another. Whatever, the fact is that the old board failed to build a sustainable set-up. Alas, Ashley is currently making precisely the opposite mistake -- looking for long-term sustainability while neglecting the short-term. In a nutshell.

How does he get in the Argie side?

The Leeds thing is a red herring in these debates for a number of reasons, some of which Chex touched on earlier.

Llamias is totally out of his depth. Poor choice as was Wise. -
No, he'll probably be paid off because he took them to court and they want the episode behind them. If they reach a settlement it wouldn't be pretty callous of Keegan to then start attacking them. And it's not like we're not already pretty aware of what went on as it is. It'd just be one man's voice and we couldn't completely verify whether he was being totally honest or not (as if he wouldn't spin the information a little), which could then of course lead to further legal battles as Keegan would be seen as defaming them. Probably came as quite a shock when they found out he was taking them to court.

Looks to me like KK will be paid off to keep him quiet.

I thought KK being talked into letting Milner go and no replacement (we know now the monies isn't due till July) was the final straw. Could be wrong. -

Football is a catch 22 for a businessman. While your not competing your losing money and if you compete (buying good players) you're losing money. -

That's the most baffling thing. They're effectively spit polishing the club with the view to attracting buyers yet Llambias seems to talk in the long term. I really do hope MA wants to offload ASAP but I fear we're going to be in the second tier in a few seasons time still finding ways to cut costs. I reckon he'll be out first chance he gets. I suspect he would already be out if he wasn't asking too much money. -

It's because the club is being ran by non-football people. How does that explain it, like? Because the club is being ran by businessmen who have no understanding of how to run a football club. Surely what's happened in the last 12months is example enough for that? Ashley running SportsDirect is one thing - but a football club is an entirely different animal. Problems occur when businessmen believe that they are the same. Thats a myth that i've never understood and doesnt really stand up to any form of scrutiny. The Glazers are not 'football people', yet are running Man U pretty successfully. Success in business preceeds ownership of a football club and is the reason why owners are there, more so nowadays. If you mean that football clubs needs to take risks and invest in players then the phrase 'Speculate to accumulate' is a relevant business insight not something football club ownership taught the world. The Glazers have owned and ran sports clubs before though. They do have some grounding in the field. Yup - weren't they involved with American Football, before they purchased the Mancs? And whilst the Mancs have been successful, it's just as well as The Glazers have saddled the club with a very large debt. If The Mancs go through a dip (for example when Ferguson leaves) - they could be in big trouble. Shifty pair hope they fuck up manure. -

I'm bemused as to when Dennis Wise became such a respected football guru? If you compare him to someone like SBR, then what Wise knows could be written on the back of a postage stamp, with room to spare. Ashley's mate? -

Wonder why we want to pay for players upfront yet let other clubs dick us around for our money. Milner money not coming till July!!! -
Getting a contract from a football club these days is like winning the lottery.

He has got things in his locker and ocassionally he does very good things, but most of the time as one of our main offensive outlets he runs down blind alleys or overhits the cross. I will say though it normally takes a season or so to aclimatise to the PL. But in all reality I'm a little dissapointed in him. Maybe he needs to practice shooting and medium passing more...I don't know...
