Liverpool done the same and look where it got them. It staggering the amount of we cannot win so why bother in the mass population over the way corporations treat us not just in football. I agree, this deal is potentially like winning the golden ticket to the chocolate factory, it could propel us to football's top table, compared to the 'at least we tried' downward facing mentality that the club is gripped by at the moment. If there is even a 1% chance we could help resurrect this deal then we should try our best.

Has Caulkin got owt right yet re. this takeover? Caulkin hasn't speculated or revealed anything beyond what the buyer's side was telling him. Dunno why folks can't get their heads around this. His take has been useful, but he's never claimed to have the inside track on the Premier League's gears which, since 9th April, is where the battleground has been - not in the boardroom with representatives between Ashley and Staveley. There's no independent party who can claim to know the precise ins and outs of the PL's process. Exactly this. I've followed a lot of his tweets and some of the podcasts he has been involved in and have felt that all his answers have been reasonably measured and usually caveated quite carefully. Yes its frustrating that he didn't seem to have any upfront knowledge about yesterdays announcement, but he wasn't the only one.

Technically that has been the case since the contract of sale expired but the test has still been going on. Staveley has clearly indicated that the O&D test process is still open. So the theory being that yesterday’s events were just to allow the consortium to put massive pressure on the PL but at cost of £15m (or whatever the exact deposit was)?

Giving Greggs on legs an 8 year contract extension is about the only way today gets any worse
