Not entirely correct to say it wasn't scouting, but it wasn't scouting done on behalf of NUFC. Benitez and his team keeps/kept a dossier on a number of players all around the world.

Other teams were probably just waiting for us to get relegated so they could swoop him up for next to nothing.

    Yeah, that's what I meant.

It was down to Rafa that he came to Newcastle. Rather than it being a Newcastle scouting team recommendation.

Can’t believe he plays for us and we got him for the price and under the circumstances(Ashley FC) we did. Always felt like he was the type of defender Wenger would want playing in his back line. Props to the scouts that got him because he’s a gem of a player and a man.

Wasn't even scouting. It was a Rafa genius signing for a mere £3 million when Ashley was refusing to give him any real money.

Looking at the criticism of spurs players and others through the league it occurs to me more now following the bruce years how much players are improved or impinged by management. All the spurs fans screaming all players not fit to wear the shirt, I think of feeling the same about Longstaff who I thought may have just had a purple patch in a specific tactical formation, I never hated miggy (how could you) but thought he was probably just a likeable hard runner lacking anything close to talent required to succeed in the league and i thought Joelinton was hard working but completely ineffective too.

It's genuinely distressing when you think about it how many players who I'm sure could have had great careers with right coaches but got written off because of waste of space PFMs and were at the wrong place wrong time. So much luck.

Proper distressing man. I've always though players are far too careless in their decision making when joining new clubs.

I'd be having a sit down with the manager that wants me and getting a full description of his setup and exactly how he'll be using me and how he also intends to get the best out of me and help me develop further.

Isak talked to a Swedish reporter after the game and said the atmosphere at St James’ Park is unbelievable, never experienced something like it, feels that the away teams are finding it difficult to play here.

So happy for the guy. Really looks fully settled in now, and seems to be loving it, and is obviously doing very well.

He's been so highly though of for a while and been linked with some top clubs, and so could have easily seen a situation where he decided against coming last summer, as we were seemingly only just starting the clubs rebuild.

Great to see it paying off so well for him.

     What an absolutely stinking take

I have a friend that is just like this. Just judges strikers on how many goals they scored previously without context.

In Spain that ball from Willock to him never ever gets played. Instead the ball goes backwards and gets recycled. Hardly ever got the ball early in space. Such a waste him playing in that league.

I have the same frustrations watching En-Nesyri playing for Sevilla. Premier League clubs are missing a trick not going for that guy. Another that will look much better if he comes over.

Such a funny and slightly weird bloke as well, which is class. Bet he likes Warhammer, which I’m fully behind.

Why is he weird man? [emoji38]

The way the ball just properly sticks to his foot in close control is insane.

Yeah, the way he collected the ball so well and instantly goes into his dribble so quickly for each goal is incredibly easy to overlook.

His touch and technique are elite. Silky smooth fluid footballer.

    Agreed.

He's going under-rated in the media still.

Yeah, the media don't really give him his dues. They were too busy hyping up Gerrard and Lampard ahead of the season.

They started giving him a bit of credit once we started very strongly and jumped into the top 4 earlier in the season and then started trying to push him for the England job, and he was like 'nope'

Don't think they liked that ;D

  9. One thing about this guy that is so valuable and quite frankly incredible and impressive is how you can just move him into different positions/roles within the same game and he just adapts and starts playing a completely different role from the one he started the game in, mid match

Allows us to cover up so many weak spots in the squad man. It's downright daft how easily he pulls it off.

  10. Once this season ends and we look back over what this man has gotten out of the players at his disposal man ...

The change in fortunes in a year for Schar, Longstaff, Willock, Almiron, Joelinton and Murphy. This is unprecedented. Never seen anything like it.

Genuinely not sure any other manager pulls this off. Can't believe it.

I agree but I’d advise him to avoid looking on Twitter. It’s a double edge sword if you’re fragile mentally. I hope he’s doing well, trips seems to be a good pal to him

Genuinely don't understand why any of these guys would even have twitter accounts they would even be looking at. Just not worth it.
