This 4-3-3 suits the current set of players so well man. Heck of a start for England.

I do not know if this is the quality of England, or just poor play from a team with serious turmoil in their country, but I have never seen Iran under Queiroz treated like this. This is historically one of the most difficult sides to play against in international football and they are being abused all over the pitch.
I think that long break affected them more.
However, having said that I really like the team Southgate picked.
The balance of complementary attributes that England midfield three has is great, and the two wide players either side of Harry Kane have great movement and pace that he can link with.
Be interesting to see if Southgate is brave enough to stick with this formation against better teams.

Jenas is unbearable
Whose idea was it to have this man commentate on games, or be on TV talking football whatsoever?

That Sterling finish is sublime.

Southgate nailed the starting lineup tbh. Really nice feel to this lineup. Everyone looks comfortable in what they're doing.
Happy for Maguire too. That man has suffered enough

should isn't could, but even then it's not embarrassing. If people were expecting it, fair enough, but they're not.
Man ... it's a heck of a dream. I think it's too far fetched to even bother mentioning tbh.
The outlay required wouldn't be worth investing in one player at this stage either. Could do with building up the squad far more across other areas before we go down that sort of route for one individual, if we ever do.
-
How on Earth do people think we can sign Bellingham?
-
Can't believe this we should sign Bellingham thing is actually gathering steam on here. It's so embarrassing.

Really like the shape and balance of the team Southgate's picked here.
He should stay with this setup. They'll go from strength to strength IMO.
Just need to make sure they keep it tight at the back. Be interesting to see how that holds up when they are attacked more.

Aye that was annoying me too. He's probably right but the way he was constantly going on how its a disgrace was doing my head in. Also don't think Sterling 'definitely heading that in' was right as well
Yeah, the guy needed to rein it in a bit. I know there was space to fill, but my goodness man. Calm down.
The concussion hand wringing is generally just annoying too. It is possible to have a nasty head clash and not have a concussion, as most of us who have played a sport will know. The defender that clashed with him looked like he was fine after a moment or two to recover. From what I could see it looked like the keeper likely broke his nose, and was suffering more from the discomfort of that if anything.

Wish Jermaine Jenas would shut up man. Such an annoying whinge.

He's figuring it out in that midfield.
Really great move by Howe putting him on the left side.
Fair play to the guy, because I was really down on him early in the season. Please keep it up!

To be clear, my comment is based on absolutely nothing other than he's an old white australian who seemed to be needlessly miserable in telling Kuol, a wonderful footballing prospect for his Country, that he hadn't acheived anything yet at his unveiling before the press. This is such a terrible post man. It's amazing how you could view that bit so negatively and in such a mean spirited way. Really makes me wonder what kind of person you are actually. All you lot constantly accusing people of being racist man ... I really do wonder if it's an issue you have sometimes.
He was clearly trying telling him that it was just the start for him to keep him grounded and motivated to continue pushing for more. Just a few seconds later he's joking with the kid and telling him to view the presser as just a chat with his mates for goodness sake.
But incredibly you've started banging on about racism. You lot go on about racism more than black people do, and it's not even an issue for you. What the fuck is the problem man?!

I'm not sure why that's particularly relevant to Qatar hosting a World Cup.
If you don't want to discuss it that's fair
Yeah, similarly didn't understand how diversity issues were relevant to the naming of the England team specifically either.
But anyway ... yeah. Happy to just leave all this be

Yeah, Wilson really has a big opportunity as behind Kane he’s the only true striker.
I think it’s a big risk by Southgate not taking Abraham. Maybe he thinks Rashford is good enough as another central striker option but have my doubts about that
Southgate was saying Tammy is in a poor run in front of goal. I haven't kept up with him as much this season, but if that's true I think it's fair enough really.
I think Toney would have been the one to take. He suits the more defensive style of play as he can hold the ball up and unsettle defenders. Also used to playing in these 3 at the back systems at Brentford.

Bit of a overreaction from some people (not all on here) about the CBs that are going. We are almost certainly playing 3 at the back so even if you choose what some may would consider the "weakest" 3 I still think they've got enough to do what is needed.
They're all such a nervy bunch man, and I include Stones in that who I don't trust when he doesn't have quality around him.
Think it's a shocking bunch, and with all the pressure that comes with England, and the poor seasons they've mostly had in their league teams, it could get very ugly.

Fair enough.
I'd expect journalists to be interested in the thousands of lives lost, building the facilities required to the hold tournament. I appreciate that's not on Southgate, but it's to be expected he and other participating managers will be asked about it.
Do you know how adversely affected millions of people in Africa are by the policies in place from the self proclaimed light bearers in the West? Do you have any idea how much blood is on their hands?
But of course they keep bleating on about the evil Arabs though to position themselves as a righteous bunch. It's pathetic.
But anyway, I'm just going to leave this all alone now. I've promised myself not to engage in these discussions anymore.

Fuck. Just realized there’s no Ward-Prowse. Gallagher ahead of him is insane.Yeah, I think Ward-Prowse is class. I don't understand what gets Gallagher in ahead of him at all.
Also surprises me how little interest is shown in him from clubs higher up in the table. Think he'd really shine in a better situation.

Journos can't help themselves can they. The fuck does Southgate need to answer these questions over and over again about inclusivity, diversity and human rights issues.
Just as bad as the questions Howe gets asked every other week about Saudi.
People have genuinely lost their minds over this stuff at this point man. God help us.

Maguire and Dier ... just realised how much that sounds like a comedy pairing. England will be shocking at the back.
Also, just one left footed full back, really? Feel bad for Targett as he would have got in there if he had stayed fit and in the team carrying on performances from last season.
Gallagher ahead of Ward-Prowse ... nope. Not for me man. I think Ward-Prowse has to be in ahead of him, even just for his set pieces alone he gets in there instead.
As for Marcus Rashford. Um ... nah.

Can't lie I'm particularly thrilled for Chris Wood today. What a finish that was. Love this team man.
Group B: England, Iran, United States, Wales (England and USA qualify)

I find it weird this is what you were thinking about while watching the game tbh. Very very strange and suspicious.
