watched again on nufc.tv highlights and easily onside.
Joelinton has a knack of playing people in with great timing, going back to even the dark days under Bruce. Remember him setting Gayle up a number of times and he fluffed the chances. Never doubted big Joe. Great movement, and a fantastic run and finish from ASM.

I’m not calling him a flop, just reminds me of Andy Carroll a bit in his stature. I think Man Utd would have been a better fit, Spurs would be a good fit. Basically any team that plays that fast counter attack.. the slow build up Man City have will prove frustrating I think.Delete this and your last post before anyone notices. The guy is going to be a monster.
It's fitting your name is Dr. Jinx, because you've pretty much jinxed us with these posts when we face them early on.

If you watch Harland's (admittedly not very impressive) highlights, there's a clip where a teammate lifts his leg back to shoot, in about half a second he sprints back onside, pivots then manages to get the first to the rebound by a clear yard. He's going to be immense.
Yeah, noticed this when he hit the cross bar.
His movement, speed and explosiveness are immense.
He's going to be an absolute terror.

he could have made a run down the wing he was on but crossed to the other side while still had the De Brunye had the ball. No idea wht he was he was thinking. I’m literally in shock at the decision making.Yeah, he may well be out of his depth with this lot.

Liverpool fans have put the Man City lot to shame.

Foden is so much better than that little tw*t Grealish.
Grealish has been shocking.

This game is horrendous, zero lack of quality anywhere.
Somewhere in a parallel universe we kicked off our season this weekend in the Championship with Bruce in charge (Ashley would never have sacked him), with a crowd of 25000 at SJP and a defense including Ritchie Clark and Lascelles, and Gayle up front
My goodness ... can you even imagine?

Grealish is so ineffective.
Really not sure about him in this Man City team. Don't think it suits him.
He always seems to dribble, cut in and then play a sideways or backwards pass.

That initial effort from Haaland man, what a powerhouse.

Can Alvarez play on the wing?
Not sure to be honest. My impression is that he's more of an out and out striker.

Man City are going to miss Sterling and Jesus athleticism and dynamic play in wide areas.
None of their current wide men really look to get in behind now, and can create problems that way.
-
Liverpool look so impressive. Great goal TAA.
Rodri scared of the ball.

Are you okay with me being allowed to voice my displeasure on a Newcastle Internet forum instead?
Yeah, sure. And I'm free to respond and disagree also

Are people just not meant to comment on one of our best players continuing his upturn in form and fitting better into Howe's system?
I don't know what the hell is going on with them whingeing, but I'm excited about the improvements. Think he's going to have a really good season.

You're right, I don't like him. Cos he hoofs these waster passes too often. Amongst a lot of other issues.
Doesn't matter that we have dropped deeper. We need CBs who can by without reverting to hit and hopes.
He has played some passes today, but I think that was cos he was being given a bit more time than he'd get in a prem game.
Yeah, it was pretty obvious.
Join Adam Pearson at the gates after training then and tell Howe to stop playing him because he doesn't play the perfect pass every time.

Botman is a Rolls Royce of a defender. Hasn't had single shaky moment since joining.

HTT finally has a Mexican to get behind

Yeah, when we've all tired and dropped deeper. Stop it man
You weren't saying all this in the first half. We get it you don't like the guy!

Yeah, we need to make a few changes if only to avoid any muscle injuries.
They're purposely trying to get them a full 90, was the same yesterday's game too.

He has to use it cos he is so limited. He does it so frequently.
He hasn't this game. You're exaggerating.

Sigh.
Lascelles use of the ball has been fine. He has to clear it sometimes if there's pressure and nothing's on. Chill out man.

That was Ritchie's man again getting in behind.
Sven Botman

There's a possibility you are right on this one.
I think people may be sick to their stomachs when they find that there's a chance Botman was seen as an ideal partner for Lascelles.
Lascelles is our best defender when it comes to heading the ball in both boxes, and I think Howe values the set piece ability as well as his leadership. He is a similar mould to Steve Cook, who Howe had paired with Nathan Ake at Bournemouth. Ake took the ball playing responsibilities in that partnership with Cook, while Cook kept things simple with the ball. Cook was great in the air and was the leader and captain too.
Don't think Howe necessarily feels he needs two ball playing defenders back there. In the Schar and Burn partnership, Burn is the more aggressive defender that provides better aerial ability and leadership, while Schar takes the ball playing responsibilities.
I think these are the two pairs that Howe will use for the most part. And so I think people should at least prepare themselves for this possibility and start working themselves up for a proper whingefest come the first game.
