but surely bruce is desperate to cling to his job and would take any decent advice going.

I think it was a desperation move to keep us up and it worked. Once safety was secured his ideas were ditched and Bruce reverted back to his original setup since then and it's been crap again.

Hard-tackling, mobile defensive midfield player who does aim to get the ball forward. Nothing great, but just what we need. You'll see.

Genuine question what do you think the big upgrade from Hayden is with Choudhury? What will he add that will make the big difference that Hayden doesn't add?

  3. Crystal Palace under Vieira look like they will grind out results. Considering the amount of player upheaval over the summer, been an okay start.

More and more certain that we will have a guaranteed spot in that bottom 3 if Bruce stays on.

Tuchel low key put on a masterclass of coaching in that game, they had basically the worst possible thing happen right before half time, away at Liverpool, and he completely nullified them second half. Really like him, despite the fact I think he might be a humanoid

Yeah, getting that result at Anfield having held on for a whole half that well, is even further indication that Chelsea are big time contenders this season.

I think the deliberately bit gets people. I think the refs interpretation of 'deliberate' is as in the example 'player moves the arm towards the ball' which James does, rather than mind reading the player. It is merely meant to stop when ball just bounches dirrectly off at point blank range. James moved his arm and carried ball out o fgoal with it. It is ambiguous, it is daft to double punish pen is definitely enough of a punishment but strangely both a red card and no red card is in the rules so both sides can argue endlessly cos both interpretations seem fair.

Yeah, it's a tough one for James. The way the rule is written though it seems once it is determined to be a handball he then has to go. Really unlucky.

It has to be a 'deliberate' handball to avoid reds for obvious bounces off arms. I am kinda alone in thinking he did kinda scoop the ball with teh arm in a forward motion rather than just have it richocet off so maaaaybe makes sense as a red but it is well harsh.

The scoop seemed more a reflex/natural motion I think, enough to warrant the penalty, but not clear enough to be a red IMO as it cannot be deemed deliberate for certain. It's a tough one in hindsight. Think the ref should have certainly had more of a proper look though.

  7. Even with a monitor right by the pitch for these refs to review things they still manage to ruin things. It's like he had decided he was already going to give it to play to the home crowd.

The fact they even asked for him to have another look is an indication that even the penalty wasn't certain because of the initial bounce of his leg. and then the plonker doesn't take the time to look at it properly, and not only gives a pen, but a red card too.

If it was that blatant an offence they wouldn't have asked the idiot to have a look himself. Unbelievable.

Red makes no sense when it hits his leg first and is completely incidental.

He didn't even walk up to the monitor fully, and then you can see he doesn't even watch the replay all the way through! It's fucking insane!

The ref literally looked for 2 seconds

He didn't even look at it properly. It is unbelievable man. Ruined what was a fantastic game man. These refs need to be punished. Why has he not taken his time to look at the full replay a couple of times at least?!

  10. Bruceball is back!

Knew we were in big trouble when we couldn't even threaten a Villa side that were missing a number of players last week.

Southampton press really well, and do so high and aggressively. We typically look shocking against teams that do so.

Only time we started to look like we could handle the press and pass the ball about somewhat decently was when Jones first came in and switched to his system.

Bruce has since ditched that system and now we are in major bother I think.
