  1. It's blatantly obvious they don't even consider foreign candidates.

Rafa was a bit different because he had been at Liverpool for ages and already had a huge reputation over here.

They managed to screw that up and so I'm sure that made it even less likely a foreign candidate would ever be an option no matter how good they are.

    ... And he approached them.

    Yes, absolutely that too.

  3. Newcastle United job interested Thomas Tuchel in 2015

Newcastle travel to Stamford Bridge in the German’s sixth match since succeeding Frank Lampard as Chelsea head coach. But Tuchel could have been in the opposition dugout had fate taken another course.

Alan Pardew left Newcastle for Crystal Palace in December 2014 and Tuchel, available having ended a five-year stint with Mainz, was linked with the post.

In the end the former England manager Steve McClaren was appointed and Tuchel succeeded Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, but the 47-year-old confirmed that he would have at least considered an approach.

“If they had contacted me there would have been a chance because I am a football fan, I know the stadium, I know the guys who play for Newcastle, I know the shirt, but I never had any contact with any official,” he said.

My God this club makes my blood boil.

  4. Well this is a mess ...

I guess if Joe is ever to make anything of himself here this is going to be his last chance, with him getting a run in this new setup.

If he looks bad with us lined up the way we have recently then that will all be down to him, as the setup should put him in the best position to be more productive.

I agree but he doesn’t even have the application or desire to do well

Well it's going to be his last chance really and it's all down to him.

Everyone has looked better in the recent setup and particularly the players further up the pitch, and so he just has to produce much better performances.

If he doesn't then it will be 100% clear that he has to be moved on once the season is up.

Why are you even contemplating this?  One more chance? You simply have to be kidding........

Because he hasn't played in this setup yet and he cost us £40 million. It's the sensible thing to do.

We're pretty much safe and it's a nothing season. Playing Gayle and Carroll who are going to be out of contract makes no sense.

The team has seen a significant improvement since the change in system, so it makes more sense to see what the 23 year old player that cost £40 million can do in the setup.

At the very least it gets him a run of games to perhaps garner some interest from teams in lesser leagues for next season.

Playing Gayle and Carroll ahead of him would be very short sighted. If Joe really stinks and the team is struggling to pick up points you can always pull him out and make the change then.

Also ... if Joe comes in and looks even half decent it will be yet another thing that makes Steve Bruce look an even bigger wally.

  5. Gayle behind a three of Fraser, Almiron and ASM will provide him with enough chances to make him a worthwhile starter imo. He's nowhere near as good as Wilson in terms of finishing, liable to miss chances and is poor off the ball but he's capable getting goals in a team that creates. He's a downgrade but he's not a terrible option imo.

Carroll could probably fill in if needed. He can still be a presence and he did fairly well in his last few appearances. Not sure he'd fit into this new system though.

Joelinton is a complete waste of time. There's no point in going back to using him as our main striker as he offers absolutely nothing. Last resort.

You're probably right, however, the season is pretty much done now and it looks like we'll be safe. Might as well throw Joe in and give him a final chance in the lead up to summer, and at the very least get his name out there for prospective teams after the season.

The way we are lined up at the minute ASM and Miggy will get goals too and so there isn't as much pressure for him to score as there was in his early days here and in any setup we've typically had prior to Jones coming in.

  6. It's probably a discussion that's been had, but what would we expect to receive as a fee for Joelinton? I have this figure of £5m in my mind and can't really see why anyone would pay more? Is that harsh in today's market? Could we reasonably ask for more than £10m?

Honestly, I don't think anyone would buy him as things stand.

It would have to be season long loans initially, and then the fee will have to be negotiated if he does well somewhere and they want to keep him.

  8. Didn't watch West Brom.

Did it look like we've signed the wrong Arsenal midfielder still then?

I’d argue that they are a totally different team without VVD, even attacking. He has such an influence / presence on the entire pitch

    :serious:

  9. He lost a couple of even battles and some of you are going on like he’s a pushover. He made some decent tackles and won a lot of headers today. He also seems to support ASM well going forward. He’s got talent and it’s a bit RTG how many people seem to want to slag him off.

They've decided he is shite and every little thing will be over exaggerated from now on without fail.
