Bruce wouldn't have done anything with Perez and Rondon man.

We saw Rondon under Pulis and Perez under Pardew et al. and they were nothing special.

It was far more to do with what Rafa was getting out of them. Just like he would get a lot more out of the current bunch we have.

Nah, he sucks up to everyone all the time, other managers included, and always plays up the hard done by woe is me angle, so they all feel like they have to protect him or something.

They are all shite, but the one separating Joelinton from Gayle and Carroll is that, whether we like it or not, he has a future that we are invested in.

Correct. Also whether we like it or not he has done more than the other two this season, as awkward and clumsy as he can be it's just a fact.

Also like TRon mentioned earlier, when we start throwing strikers on late it makes more sense to bring on Gayle then as Gayle is more likely to sniff out a chance from any scrappy late play in the box.

This formation has been well and truly found out tonight by the way. Gayle up on his own against Rüdiger, while Werner and Alonso has free reign against Krafth.

Feel like it just won't work against a 3 man defence. Bruce being Bruce just won't change a winning team, but wonder if Jones thought this would be the way to go as well.

 

Definitely a tough ask setting up this way against a 3-4-2-1 for sure.

The point of the formation is to have our mak striker/target man going up against their full back in the attacking build up. That doesn't happen against a three man defence, as its another CB that also has the backing of a wing back.

Yeah, I agree. Especially when it's Gayle. Wilson would have still made a fist of it, but Gayle, no chance.

Neville is right about that stupid thing Abraham did that a lot of strikers do in trying to put their legs in the way to get fouled for the penalty instead of playing the ball.

Joelinton would have had his numerous clumsy moments but my God you would have at least seen him get on the ball a bit and have the odd decent link up play and pass.

Knew Gayle would be pitiful in that role Callum Wilson has been playing recently. He is not a versatile footballer at all. Completely invisible and pointless.
