  1. This guy has been a manager for what, 22-23 years, has learnt nothing, seems to have not made any effort to develop his knowledge and is still managing to get away with it.

Quite a skill in itself

Earning £1 million a year for it too.

He's even too lazy to get in a quality assistant that is more up to speed with the modern game and tactics, and then just oversee operations. Nope. Rather just have all his goofy mates in his backroom team.

  2. As much as it pains me to say it, and it really does, Pardew at least managed to get Ben Arfa in his team when he could, despite his apparent lack of team ethic that was supposedly causing dressing room issues behind the scenes (Colo especially taking exception), whereas Bruce never gave him a look in even at Hull fking City.

    Very strong point!

  3. Man ... Pardew was so rubbish and clueless, and his smarmy, arrogant, condescending manner just made the whole thing completely intolerable. Pretty difficult to top. Especially after that 5th place finish thanks to an outstanding team that he then went on to destroy single handedly.

Steve Bruce is equally rubbish and clueless, but is more of a pathetic figure just trying to blag it and cover his arse, which is pretty annoying too, but don't think it reaches Pardew levels.

It does - as a manager way worse

Managerially I think they are both completely inept, but there is certainly a case to be made that Bruce is even worse.

Think Pardew may have looked a bit better because of that 5th place squad he had a chance to work with. Then again even with that squad Bruce may have well made a complete pigs ear of it too.

  4. Easy to forget how badly Bruce had him looking before he went out, by moving him centrally and into crowded areas, and so totally negating his threat to run at people out wide.

Loads were having a go at ASM at the time. We're screwed

Tbf, it was Maxi’s idea wasn’t it?

Apparently, but he was hardly suffering playing on the wing. He was outstanding there.

And so, once playing through the middle didn't work after the first couple of times or so then it is the manager's responsibility to change it and let the player know it's better for himself and the team.

Bruce appears to not even be able to do that. I mean how inept is this guy exactly?!

But wasn’t he injured after only a couple of games there? Don’t think Bruce has had the chance to put him back on the wing.

No, he had played a few games there as I remember complaining about how crowded out he was along with others.

  6. Longstaff spent the majority of the first half sat 6 yards in front of the defenders. Is that where false 10's play?

I don't know what his position was last night.

For me it looked like a position that could be named "swinger", somwhere between an old fashioned sweeper and a winger.

That's it, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN, right in the middle of nowhere!

    Bruce Out!

    Ashley out!

    "Swinger" is hilarious man

  8. Man Utd are rolling in the league right now. Sunday is going to be fascinating.

Think Eric Bailly has looked really good since coming in, and his athleticism and speed are a really good fit alongside Maguire. If he is over his injuries I could see him making that position his own.

Martial really needs to sort himself out though. Think he's been really poor this season and greater production from that Striker position (with either Greenwood or Cavani taking his place) could see Man U push on even more the rest of the way.

  9. Longstaff spent the majority of the first half sat 6 yards in front of the defenders. Is that where false 10's play?

The players are all so demoralised and confused now that I can't even bring myself to criticize any of them. No one is performing well out there.

The only players that give a false impression they are performing well are the defenders and goal keeper, and that's only because they are under duress the whole game and so inevitably come up with some decent tackles and saves.

  10. We've inquired about Josh King. Got quoted a price that we apparently didn't want to pay. Not really news but still, why not utilize my boring itk when I have it

Cannot believe they are even looking to bring in more players for the joker in charge

He is mismanaging all the attacking players he has, and so they're just going to throw another into the mix?! Bloody ridiculous.

  11. Someone else said it earlier in the thread, but you just knew that if there was a team to get their first win of the season, it would be against us!

I always remember the time in the past when Peter Crouch hadn’t scored a goal in like 15 years of football and then scored against us - just had to be!

Brewster also almost got off the mark against us today too, if not for the post

  12. that fucking bbc interview on the podcast, man - admits he thinks he rightly went pragmatic first, even after the interviewer reminded him sheff utd had only gained 2 points so far this season.

    clueless.

cant believe he admits he set out his team not to lose first against the bottom club.

still cant believe it. that is an absolutely horrendous admission.

It was so obvious from the team selection. The guy is bonkers

As little as I think of his ability, I didn't even imagine he would put out such a negative team.

  13. Actually played better, albeit still fucking shite, when down to ten IMO.

Aye. Everyone knows the ten man game, though. Sit back, narrow the pitch when you're out of possession, break when you can. Very much just default, same thing any non-elite team deploys when they go a man down and are under the cosh.

When the onus is actually on us to proactively carry out a chosen gameplan, it falls to bits cos the players are being puppeteered by a bloke with nine thumbs.

Honestly, it looked more a case of Sheffield United losing their way a bit with all those strikers being thrown on.

Seemed to mess up their build up play, particularly when McGoldrick was shunted out wide, as he was linking all their play brilliantly through the middle in the first half.
