  1. Funnily enough wasn't even the worst transfer last season.

I'd give that honour to Spurs Tanguy Ndombele signing.

Ndombele will get another move. Who in the right minds would touch Joelinton?

Clubs in Germany where he performed well prior?

  2. When you really look at that Bournemouth team, outside of Fraser who did they really have that created chances?

They didn't have anyone in central midfield that could match what Shelvey can pull out of the bag. And the likes of Stanislas and King are runners that tend to have their heads down.

ASM, Fraser, Miggy and Shelvey should create a lot more opportunities for Wilson really. If he ends up with less than double figures it would be quite disappointing.

Especially since he takes pens as well. Think it seems a solid signing though, he's not going to set the world alight, but he seems to have decent movement and can finish, even if he's not the quickest.

I think there's potential for him to have a really good season, despite Bruce's limitations, as I honestly don't think he's had a team with as many good attacking players around him. We should be able to take advantage of the weaker teams in the division to greater effect. Think we'll still look iffy against the better teams though.

There's a chance he does a Demba Ba. Similar knees and all!

  4. Officially stripped of the number 9.

Sorry, son. Sorry you were so shite...

They've done him a massive favour with that move, and it's the right decision.

I was hoping they would do that, but wasn't sure they actually would. It was just an added pressure on the guy.

  5. Well he can’t hide behind ‘it’s Benitez’s team’ now. He’s got an attack that’s cost about £100m and Fraser is probably in the £20m bracket too. He’s also seemingly made the choice to move from ball playing centre-backs to a more typical centre-back partnership. Needs a good start or he’ll be under pressure. Could see Howe here by the New Year if he has a poor start.

This is why it's always good to let managers have the types of players they want, because the frauds can hang themselves out to dry quicker, without any excuses.

This is probably the best bunch of players he will have ever got to work with in the prem. It's all on him now, and there's nowhere for him to hide.

  6. Not that he could get any worse but I think he'll have a better season this year, if we manage him well (lol). Get some confidence coming off the bench and playing anywhere in the 3 behind Wilson - he's much more suited to that sort of position rather than leading the line. Possibility he could play in a front 2 at times as well.

This would be the ideal approach, absolutely agree with you

  7. Yeah, I think Almiron will look better playing with a more traditional striker that makes runs in behind rather than dropping deep (Joelinton).

ASM for me is at his best taking on defenders out wide and absolutely ruining their lives. Let him do that to his hearts content IMO.

For what it's worth if we ever need to use someone else in the number 10 position, Fraser plays there as well, and is adept at it too. Threads a really decent through ball.

  8. Joelinton is the one that's going to get dropped from the first team. It's rough for him, but it was an irresponsible purchase that does not fit in at all with Bruce's more straight forward approach.

Bruce wants a striker that looks to get in behind, get in the box and score goals. And he wants wide men that take people on. Almiron will play the number 10 because he's performed well since being placed there.

  9. Regarding Willems he did managed to look decent under Bruce, so there is that as well. Don't think Bruce being manager will negatively affect his play.

He's coming into a better team on the whole than that Norwich team too, so it'll be a better situation for him regardless.

  10. Bruce gets money because he’s likely playing super nice with Ashley and not calling him out in public or behind closed doors like Rafa likely did

It's this simple. MA did not like Rafa at all. It's very clear. It was just really unfortunate and frustrating man. Rafa is all about his business, similar to how he is even with his players, as we've all heard. MA wants someone he can be pally with, which is a bit pathetic, but whatever. Unfortunately as the owner that's his prerogative.

Bruce has come in and is happy to go with players the 'recruitment team' suggest, which is what MA wants. He can also suggest players that are outside of that remit, provided they are cheap, or can be justified in some way. This hasn't changed with any of the signings we look to be making.

Hendrick and Fraser are both free. Lewis fits the young and resale value remit. Wilson is the only one that is completely out of whack, but can be justified due to how badly Joelinton turned out, and therefore not being in a position to take risks with a striker again.

Bruce is making it work for him and finding a way to get the players he wants to use, so fair play to him for that. No manager we've had under MA has ever managed that. So now lets see exactly what he's made of. That is what I'm looking forward to. Rafa's name better not even slip out of his goofy mouth anymore.

  11. Wages for Batshuayi will be double that of Wilson, mind

Yeah, that's a good point actually. I think Michy is on around £90k and the rumour is Wilson is wanting £75k.

I think Batshuayi is available initially on loan with an obligation to buy next summer as his contract runs out then, and so depending on how well he does, maybe the year could be used to negotiate his wages for when he would eventually sign next summer. Depending on how he does they could then better determine what he's worth to Newcastle.

  12. Bidding war !!

Interesting. I can see us bowing out.

Honestly, if we're willing to pay £20 million for Wilson, I wish we'd just offer that for Batshuayi who is available for that amount.

He's a far more lethal goal scorer IMO.

  13. Is Wilson really the answer? He scored 7 goals last season. I know that’s better than any of our strikers but only one goal more than Shelvey.

Bournemouth were awful last season. Two main creative players in fraser and Brooks firing blanks and out for most of the season. His goal return wasn't bad considering what was going on, if he'd been here instead of Joelinton I think you'd be looking closer to double that.

Tend to agree. They also seemed to play 2 upfront a fair bit and so relied too heavily on wing play.

In a team with ASM, Miggy and Fraser behind him, as well as Shelvey's ability to pass from deep, it should be much better for him.

The thing that scares me with Wilson is his injuries. Especially considering Bruce's reputation for getting everyone injured.

  14. If he's such a good player, and the likes of Liverpool are/were interested in him, why would he come here ?

Because he's stuck in the championship with Norwich and we paid what they asked for.

  15. Wow. Was not expecting this at all, as Liverpool failed to sign him earlier in the window.

However, he is young and British and so his re-sale potential will be massive, and that's the language Mike Ashley speaks.

Only had to look at what happened with Chilwell earlier in the window, who went for £50 million.
