  1. Imagine the stick that Rafa would get for this

Oh wait he won against Man City with this and got so much stick

I'm sorry but Rafa's setup was nowhere near this horrendous.

There were still some opportunites to break against City under Rafa, as there was still some modicum of support for Rondon.

There is no one within 10 miles of Carroll int his setup. This is downright unprofessional

  2. They had a clear philosophy but they neglected the role of the tougher players in allowing it to work.

I still respect the way they want to play football, but they need to toughen up for sure.

Also like how much they trust their young players.

Yeah, the thing is they played very attractive football when they had those stronger, athletic and quicker players anyway, so to abandon that all completely was so bizarre really.

  3. Replays suggested it should have been ruled out after the ball brushed Davinson Sánchez’s arm and Moyes was unhappy. “I don’t believe the first goal should have stood,” said West Ham’s manager. “There was a handball, it wasn’t a goal. I can’t believe they allowed that to stand. Who was on VAR tonight?’

Moyes was also aggrieved that the Premier League had not allowed the game to be played later this week, thereby affording his team an extra day’s recovery following Saturday’s defeat at home to Wolves. “It was a terrible decision by the Premier League and I’m disappointed the broadcasters couldn’t have helped,” he said.

    Moyes fuming

Without the crowd it's been funny hearing him hollering from the sideline. Belting out all the classic PFM tropes as well.

If he ends up taking West Ham down man

  4. Good chance we finish above arsenal next season without a takeover. Shit, might even do it this season.

They are fucked. Bet they wish they didn’t hound out wenger for only finishing 4th every season.

Someone compared it to us sacking Bobby because he finished 5th, which I think is a really good comparison. They're going to be mid-table fodder for the next few years.

Some similarities yes, but think it was more a case that they never really adequately replaced the spine of the team...Toure/Vieira/Henry, and just went for a succession of light weight technical players over the years, and for all the improvement in the league since then, there is still a place for gritty hard working players, who have a never defeated attitude. Has to be a balance of course but I can't think of an Arsenal player that another player would be 'frightened' of going up against

I'm convinced Anelka ruined Arsenal.  They bought him for £500k and sold him on for £27m or something with everyone saying how much of a genius Wenger was.  After that he seemed to become obsessed with signing nobodies in an effort to discover the next diamond in the rough.

If they'd balanced their transfer policy with some big name established players I think we'd be looking at a different Arsenal today.

Think it was more to do with Wenger becoming obsessed with signing little midgets in an effort to emulate Barcelona.

Completely started ignoring the French league and players, and any strong, athletic and quick players, which was crazy IMO and particularly made their central midfield options suffer.

  5. I remember him signing with a "dog chasing a balloon" reputation, but he is seriously talented and, relative to the rest of the team, also pretty effective.

Also supposedly had an attitude problem, which is nonsense because he seems to have the best attitude of any player we've had for some time.

Honestly, I find it quite amazing that he had that reputation. It makes no sense based on what we've seen from him so far. Quite extraordinary.

Cantwell plays off the front man I believe, and not in central midfield.

Not a fan of Fornals at all. Would leave him well alone.

Like your suggestions though other than Fornals. I think I'd take Seb Haller too, as West Ham have not really got the best out of him at all.

  7. He set up Almiron for that chance he should have scored too.

He looked very effective on the right yesterday which surprised me a bit

It forces him to get balls into the box rather than always look for his shot as he tends to do on the left hand side.

As Optimistic Nut just said, isn't it appalling that all those weeks we played the 5-2-3 that we never saw Almiron on the left and ASM on the right?! Disgraceful really.

  8. For his goal - he laid the ball off, turned and busted his gut to get on the end of the return pass.

Has he ever done that in a Toon shirt before?

Not really no, but then how often has there been someone in his near vicinity to even lay it off to, who was then in a position to get it back to him? Not often at all.

It was just so evident that he is far more noticeable and involved throughout the game with this change in system, and it just means he should then play with more effort and desire as he is actually a part of what's going on.
