  1. Well Stones isn't good enough for City and Barkley not good enough for Chelsea, so if we are going to try and compete with them they wouldn't be good enough for us. However if we just want to settle for getting closer to the top 6-8 I suppose they would do. Neither would excite me.

I actually prefer the idea of building by targeting younger talent like this that are established but still have huge potential, particularly because Rafa is the ideal manger to fully unlock these types, rather than just flooding the team with big money players that are chasing big paydays as that would feel a lot more forced and empty.

  2. I think Poch would build a team that would genuinely win stuff Rafa would IMO would have a genuine interest in improving the whole area

Definite quandary for me. I love Rafa and I feel like a cheating lover but I can't help but lust after the type of football we would get under Poch. I think he would inspire and unite the fanbase again possibly even more than Rafa, which feels weird to say. On the flip side I see this as Rafa's swansong rather than Poch's stepping stone to Madrid or elsewhere. Rafa knows the club, area and is a dreamboat. It's unfinished business in this league, the title he doesn't have and you know he will do everything for our club.

Either way, what a position we could potentially be in to consider either and managers of this pedigree.

Rafa in charge of that Spurs team with Kane, Son, Alli, Aldeweireld, Vertonghen etc would have won something IMO. That was a fantastic collection of players. I just think Rafa is a better manager.

The football Rafa would have produced with that Spurs team really wouldn't have been that far off either IMO. I mean they had some fantastic attacking players period.

  3. Ross Barkley is still just 26.

Seems the type of player that would benefit massively from Rafa. Needs to be given detailed instructions on exactly what to do as his decision making can be poor.

Not a big fan of Stones, but Rafa had Schaar looking like a fantastic defender when he was here, and there's been a big difference with him since he left. In a more structured, tighter system Stones could look a lot better.

Super excited about the news on Rafa returning. He does always t alk about having an English core for premier league teams and so this would make sense. It would follow in the mould of what he did at Liverpool building around Gerrard and Carragher.

  4. Steve Bruce is a joke man. 3 days off in a week? What?!!! No wonder the team always looks so clueless. I mean how long do they even train each day that they need up to 3 days off?!

You know the only reason he's doing it is because he can't be bothered to do any work himself and fancies a lie in. He's a fat lazy mess.

  5. People just become enamoured with the names they hear being repeated all the time.

Zaha would be so hated at Newcastle man. Have you watched the guy play at all? He produces something maybe 5% of the time. The other 95% of the time he is falling over or losing the ball and then bitching and moaning at the ref.

  6. Bale number one target according to daily mail.

    From 2016 ...

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has heaped praise on Rafa Benitez for ending his isolation on the wing during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu and thanked him for giving him more responsibility.

The current Newcastle United manager spent a brief spell at Madrid and Bale has spoken highly of the Spaniard for his allowing him to play in a more central role.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Times ahead of his return to England in the Champions League against Manchester City, Bale thanked Benitez and had nothing but praise for his former manager.

He said: “I felt isolated out on the wing and I wasn’t able to do what I wanted to do and give my best for the club.

He [benitez] listened to me, and gave me more responsibility which was what I wanted. I had a good relationship with him.

“He speaks very good English which helps me. I was able to speak to him a lot. We had things in common from working in England. I just enjoyed working with him.”

    It's happening!

  7. That’s fine, but you also need the likes of Stones on top of that to push a level above.

Stones is a classy ball playing defender but my god is he careless and error prone. It even stands out in a team that dominates the ball so much and is hardly called upon to defend as much. Not a big fan at all. Love defenders that defend first and foremost.

Its easier to defend in a team like ours than Man City's. We barely ever have to deal with being exposed on the counter attack while that will be most of your defending at Man City and that is much harder than standing with a bank of 4 in front of you and defending crosses

Hmmm ... I agree to some extent but not completely. In counter attacking situations, certainly, yes.

However Man City often have so much more of the ball and press high up the pitch so effectively that teams don't really tend to counter attack on them that well in general.

The thing about Stones as well is that a lot of his errors come in quite non threatening situations too. You only have to search John Stones mistake on youtube and a number of videos pop up with ridiculous errors.

Just not a fan. For £40 million I'd be disappointed if he was a defender we chose to spend that on.

  8. That’s fine, but you also need the likes of Stones on top of that to push a level above.

  9. I mean I get he's a local guy and a cheery guy, fair enough.

Maybe put him in charge of a new pie shop in the stadium or something. This is a role far more suited to him and his appetite.

  10. We're pretty much worst in the league in every statistic.

It wasn't difficult to see when watching the team either.

They'd better get rid of this guy immediately. He is not good in anyway whatsoever and has done nothing that is good at all.

  11. Want Rafa for 2 main reasons

    1. He already knows the place. He knows the fans and most of the squad. He knows what needs to be done and where to make the improvements and it could literally take off from day 1. I also like the fact he can organise a team and squeeze every drop out of it. Being organised is not boring, it's comforting. I've always longed to see a Newcastle XI knowing exactly what they were meant to be doing and Rafa made that happen. It wasn't always pretty but I always appreciated the shape and nous behind it all. The bloke knew exactly what he wanted to do but was always limited due to the front 5 and the lack of investment in key positions. He had to make do with what he was given and largely did well imo

    2. He won't just look after the squad but he'll actively look at the whole club. He'll want to modernise the training facilities, the youth teams and he'll look at building relationships with the wider community. He wants the club to be the focal point of the area and he'll work night and day to push the club as a whole entity as far as he can. He knows how significant we are and we can be and he'll drive everything in the rifht direction.

Pochettino is fucking brilliant and I respect the bloke immensely but Rafa is on another plane. Poch is the one you'd date, Rafa is the one you'd marry.

    All over this.

    It's an exceptional post.

  12. I hate to put it up....but

    Project Dragon

I don't want Bale, he has proven he is a mercenary.  I would rather sign younger talent with a view to building a side to compete 3 years down the line.

    Amen bro. Amen!

Would love a youngish dynamic team that can really grow and come together in a couple of years.

  13. Reason that I hope Rafa would come back: he started the whole damn revolution and takeover.

Reasons why I think Rafa might not be coming back: honour his Chinese contract and maybe just maybe he doesn't like to work under a DOF or he doesn't get full power? That's where maybe Poch is seen as the better choice?

I hope it will be Rafa. He would be in it for the long haul and it will be his project. Might end his career here too if he feels he can finish the job.

Poch already said he wants to go back to Spurs one day.

Such a great point man. The whole thing was down to his connect with Staveley right? Man ... Rafa has to come back. He deserves to be in the position.

How I wish he had just somehow managed to sign that one year contract that was discussed last summer.

  14. I've seen that photo of the bins a thousand times before. but I've just creased until I cried. Absolutely bonkers.

The way it was shown in that post right after the Barcelona setup is harrowing man. Shocking stuff

  15. Another thing in Rafa's favour is complete knowledge of the current playing staff (aside from ASM and Joelinton) and who will be worth keeping or jettisoning, and how to get the best out of them all.

It won't feel like a huge overhaul of the whole team will be needed in the same way as it might if someone with completely different ideas comes in.
