it wasn't just the run (stopping onside) it was the vision to see the possibility. he's not feet quick but a little nouse can go a long way and a great spot by nolan aswell. it's funny to me when everyones goes on about pace when you think of our better players in the premier era only gillespie and bellamy had pace to burn, all the rest had guile, nouse, technique and intelligence. Our two most successful periods in the premier were under Keegan and SBR, and both relied heavily on attacking players with pace. Keegan's key players: Ginola, Cole, Ferdinand, Lee were all quick. SBR: Dyer, Bellamy, Robert. We won tons of away games because of our lightning quick counter attacks. Lee had a great engine but I wouldn't exactly say he was quick and Ginola wasn't quick either. They weren't slow either. Both of them could motor when they needed to. But not what you would call quick. That's really funny. Not even quite quick.

That Jonas mark is a joke isn't it. Deserved at least 8 and probably aother .5 for all his tracking back
-
a trifle cold here.
-
Jonas was excellent today
-
he is one of the worst finishers I have seen at those level. He is also our most creative, attacking, talented and feared player and we are miles better with him in the team. Even last night, his ability to carry the ball away from our area to safety, rather than lumping it immediately to the opposition, was vital.

at least half of this thread should be deleted after that 20 minutes..

Yep, sure they'd all be picked ahead of Jonas for Argentina, if eligible...This is strating to remind me of the vilification of Scott Parker, how to give so much stick to a good (with faults, like all f.....g players) player who gives his all that eventually they can't wait to get away.

I'm on holiday and looking at this on my phone but just in case Jonas - CURRENT ARGENTINA INTERNATIONAL - is getting no support from anyone, can I please just take issue with the comment that Franz Carr was a more effective player than him..... Please.....
-
Because he runs into blind corners making it easy for them to surround him? because he's the only person in our midfield/team, that can actually hold onto and run wihth the ball. I think he's a great player, a class act. Just ask any away fans who we've played against this season. He has his weaknesses but who doesn't. Before much longer, NO half decent players will be prepared to play for us, given the reputation we now have (despite the public utterences of players) for turning on our own players quicker than any other set of supporters.

don't know if my first post got through but when Ashley arrived in the Boardroom he was asked to leave as he had no tie. The Scunny Chairman then gave him one. As I said earlier, he was very keen to tell their Directors how the fans didn't have the first clue about how preposterous both Keegan's and Shearer's demands were.....
-
don't know if my first post got through but anyway, Ashley was given a tie so got back into the Boardroom at half time. he was telling the Scunthorpe Directors that their entire wage bill is less than "f.....g" Shearer wanted to be a manager in the Championship. He also said that he wished he could tell the fans what Keegan was really like. Ashley was quite affable actually but what I really hated was that you would have thought we had won 6 0 tonight, the way he was after the game. And by the way, we were bloody unlucky tonight. Can't believe how many chances we had. And we wouldnt have conceded either goal with Taylor and Colo there.
-
sorry, on my phone and can't make this part of match thread. But point is, in the Boardroom at Scunthorpe and Ashley has just been asked to leave it - no tie on......
-
A tad harsh I reckon. they were bloody unlucky.
-
switch Mark f..........g Bright off.....

From Ron Hope, a tired Plymouth fan travelling back from Newcastle, via text on 81111: "A 600-mile round-trip to Newcastle. Disappointing result but what a great ground and great fans Newcastle are."
-
We played too deep when they had the ball which allowed them to play some good stuff. They looked to have some pace and skill actually but we weren't as bad as you would think reading this. First 20 and last 25, we played some good stuff.
-
We had a really good referee today for once. Team stepped up about 10 gears once they equalised and with Guthrie and Ranger on.

Lifetime ban please

Not according to fat Sam probably.

Well he was an incredible old codger and would have spoken non-stop through lunch whether I'd been there or not, but you couldn't help but like him. Funnily enough, his Chief Exec who was on the other side of him, he fired the week after I think.
-
Can't say, even by PM. really sorry cos i know how annoying that is

For some reason you post gives me visions of Shepherd being paraded around St James' being carried on a four poster bed being fed grapes by one sexy concubine and the other mopping his brow with a Newcastle shirt saying Baggio 10 on it. f*** I hope my son sleeps tonight I think the lack of sleep is effecting me in strange ways. Sorry for this horrendous bit of second-rate name dropping, but I still remember being ocmpletely astonished at having to sit next to Doug Ellis for the pre-match lunch in the BR because our Freddie did not have the manners to sit to have lunch with the Aston Villa Chairman. He spent the entire meal sitting all by himself at another table with that horrendous agent he son worked for. The embarrasment was excruciating. Just in think we think he is a better bet than big Mike. ps will prob delete this post sooner rather than later, just in case.

Na, it will be from Tony Jimenez. Jiminez left 9 games into the season Now that is very interesting if true!
-
Thanks for this incredibly illuminating piece of information you horrendous philistine. Yes, sorry. He did tell me why.....

I bumped into someone at a golf tournament today who was right at the heart of our club until six games (that's the clue) into this season. No names as he has previously given me a lot of accurate info and is a much nicer bloke that his reputaion might suggest. Stuff he told me tonight: - Prior to the Keegan's appointment, Harry Rednapp had actually signed a written Heads of Terms (initial contract) on a four-year deal. - Prior to Kinner's appointment, Venables had agreed to come but big Mike would only give him a contract for FOUR weeks. - Appointing Kinnear was a disaster. - Freddie S was indeed in toon yesterday as part of the interested consortium. - Big Mike doesn't want to bankroll the club next season.
