  1. From the ChronicleLive: "The majority of Pompey fans are distraught at losing Redknapp, but on the other hand he is experienced enough to know that he will have to win over some Newcastle supporters. And sources close to him told me today that he will do that by winning football matches" So AO is now try to claim an exclusive by having found out that a football manager is going to try to win some football matches!!!

Every time I see him play, I think Thank God we didn't get him when we tried to sign him last time!
  3. Trust me mate the last 13 years supporting NUFC has been like heaven compared to the 30 years before that. Agree entirely. Although at the match itself, there are more old moaners than any other sort in my experience. I just can't see how it helps the team one little bit...
  4. Not perfect but I've seen a lot worse from us in the FA Cup over the years. And to put this in context, we were MILES better than Liverpool today, playing against a much better side (in theory) than they were.
  5. Probably his position as executive on the league managers association. A position which he takes quite seriously by all accounts and always contacts sacked or recently employed managers. Alan Green has an ego a hundred times bigger than Allardyce's imo.

sure you were there as it wasn't a s*** performance (s*** result i'll grant ya),not agreat performance but better then derby and birmingham, pompey and liverpool. at times tonight we played attacking football with plan and passion. we didn't get the result we deserved (a draw against a team with 1 away win this season). Agree
  7. Spot on - there was nothing wrong with our performance in terms of chances made it was obviously chances taken which has made us struggle since September/October. I agree entirely. Although knee-jerk reactions are understandable. Thought that it was hard to fault any player tonight (or the Manager for that matter), apart from Milner (who should always escape criticism) and Martins.

One of the more entertaining things tonight was the blue baloons tbh. No, that just wound me up too - the stewards and ball boys just standing watching them, whilst Owen (or Milner) has to sprint half the bloody pitch to pick them up.
  9. I think that that is a terribly harsh analysis, based on ONLY this game. And that was a cast iron bloody penalty. What do you think is harsh about it? Milner and Oba were dreadful, i think the other marks are, if anything, quite generous. I think your marks are well argued and not far off what I would give. I meant that to describe it as "horribly poor" is very harsh imo. The result yes, particularly as Man City have been shit away. But I do think that there were signs of promise tonight and that we played a lot of good football, along the deck too. It all seemed to go wrong when Zog was pushed forward, and couldn't attack from deep.

If you're just talking about tonight, I don't think it was inept. Just unlucky.

To be one of only about 15,000 fans left at the end. Maybe we have the team we deserve. I thought that even our performance tonight deserved better support than that.
  13. Happy to be disagreed with but please don't make assumptions. I watched the whole match live.

It's funny though how Parker once again looks a class act now that he doesn't have 50,000 "supporters" screaming nonsensical abuse at him every two weeks.
  15. No no no no no no no!! You can't base your opinion on watching Match of the Day for a start. Correct. Based on being a goalkeeper for 20 years and watching more matches than I can count. I am aware that not everyone shares my viewpoint on this of course, but I see him "flap" less than any other prem keeper. I wonder if Cech is getting anything like the stick that Given does on here, after his mistake on boxing day.
  16. Agreed. I think that his judgement of when to stay, come, catch or punch is generally spot on. Compare Given's decision making with what you see every Match of the Day.
  17. This bit has got to be a wind up Nope. He drops fewer crosses and is beaten to the ball fewer times than any other Premiership keeper IMO. And I don't personally see any other keepers coming out for crosses than Given routinely ignores. Apart from those who charge out and get beaten to the ball of course. Given routinely ignores almost all crosses. At least 3 times on Boxing Day he should have been out and claimed the ball, easing the pressure on our defence, but he never, ever does. His command of his area is dreadful. He's still a decent keeper though, but to suggest that's not one of his faults is shocking. Dont agree.

  19. AND he commanded his box well, another of the ridiculous Given myths.
  20. Mate I watched the game. Duff was denied a certain goal by some great defending at the back post and Martins had a half chance early on. That was our lot. At the other end, Shay had a lot of work to do. We played ok, but let's not start pretending we were cutting Chelsea apart at the back. Wullie's turning gloomy. Big Sam's done for. Seriously though, we're getting expectations lowered by our away performances. Same as at Blackburn, where we were better but still well beaten, some people go on like we were Holland 1974 in that game, masterful but cruelly denied the victory. Due respect Wullie and I agree that we are clutching at straws compared to the Keegan or Robson eras, but we were not well beaten at Blackburn - the scoreline was a travesty of the balance of play.
  21. The team was postive today, as they were against Blackburn, Arsenal and, for the most part, Birmingham. I also thought that they played some good football against Derby believe it or not. It just makes the negative approach against Wigan all the more hard to fathom. There are definite signs of hope imo. The offside decision for their goal is definitely one of the worst I have ever seen.
  22. That's not how I saw it - yes they got pressed back in the last TEN minutes, but for the preceeding twenty minutes, they really attacked Chelsea and were rarely out of their half.
  23. Were you actually watching the game? Just for the record, I would reckon that the possession after we scored until the last 10 minutes must have been 70 30. To us. There was only one team that looked like winning the game for most of the second half.
