Why retire when clubs will still pay you thousands of pounds per week? I dunno, I just imagine that having your body breakdown and ligaments explode so regularly would hurt like hell.

Why use such hyperbole?of course there are better players out there for cheaper. I've made the point about cisse,Ba,Hernandez,jelavic.All these players were cheaper and yet more versatile. The reason why we don't know the players are because we don't spend our lives scouting, finding out player valuations and all the rest. Wouldn't make sense either, given that Ba is far more versatile than Carroll and neither would be happy sitting on the bench. Carroll would want the same thing Ba supposedly wants but with far less flexibility with regards to fitting him into the side. Complete non-story.

Wide in a traditional winger sense doesn't really suit him though, which is how I imagine it'd be in a 4-2-3-1. The freeish role in a fluid front free is where he was at his best, coming inside when he wanted, straying out wide when he wanted. If we played him wide with Ba in the hole I'm worried he'd be too restricted to really do what he does best.

Definitely, it wouldn't work with Simpson because he offers so little going forward. The little I've seen of Debuchy at the Euros he looked comfortable on the ball and keen the get forward, both would be key for the formation to work.

The 4-3-3 could work with both up front if we had Hatem behind them, so it'd be a 4-3-1-2. The 3 upfront could still drift and roam loads with any of them finding themselves out on the wing at times, with both Ba and Cisse being played in central striking roles.

Cisse was such a freak you can't use that as an example. The chances of finding someone so complete as a striker for so cheap are unbelievably slim. That said, Carroll isn't worth near 20m regardless. Ba - free Cisse - £9m Jelavic - £7m Pogrebnyak - free Giroud - £12m You can find quality players for a fraction of the cost. Don't think any of them have it all like Cisse though, which was my whole point. I'm NOT saying you can't find good strikers cheap ffs.

That said, Carroll isn't worth near 20m regardless. Another alternative is Modibo Maiga, who we came very close to signing. He's just gone to West Ham for £5m. I'm not saying he's as good as Cisse, but we clearly thought he was good enough to score goals in this league. I'm not saying you can't find a goalscorer for so cheap, I'm saying we got incredibly lucky to get someone as good as Cisse, who really seems to have it all. Maiga is probably a good striker, that doesn't mean I'd consider him the "complete" striker, like Cisse is imo.

Could be more difficult for the players who don't know English all that well to speak on the phone I guess. But other than that I agree.
