Great win. First half was a bit ropey but that can be excused on a lack of match fitness and a relegation hangover. It won't bring the feel good factor back straight away but that second half is certainly a start and something to build on. If only Ashley would leave.

Cheers mate The papers should be fun tomorrow then at least.

Man United 7/4 favourites on Sky bet for Owen
-
In talks with Manchester United according to talksport
-
And he'll still hold out for his 500k for this month
-
So he doesn't actually leave until August then. I bet he signs on the dotted line on August 1st, to make sure he gets the months wage. Even though he'll get a 7 figure sign on fee.

Michael Owen has said that out of respect to Newcastle, he's not going to comment on other clubs, while he's still under contract. Why not give him credit for showing a bit of class? He's still a Newcastle player after all.

excuse me? I think that is what you call a pre-ban. It is like a pre-date only it is a ban. i've only been banned once and that was for calling someone a c***. see the house of the banned i've never had a previous log in Shame you bothered coming back after the ban tbh that's bang out of order that mind. I agree, he might be a troll, but there's also the small chance he's not and just has an eccentric personality. In which saying something like that is out of order. Most likely it's a troller though, so meh. i'm not a trawler. i'm not a mackem. i'm not a "wum" and i'm not a "vic". i have not had any previous log ins. i am an honest nufc fan. i have been a season ticket holder for many years and have racked up plenty of miles up and down the country to watch my club. i am not claiming to be a great nufc fan. far from it. there is always someone better who has done more away games. but i have certainly totalled enough games to give an opinion which i deem valid, and others controversial. i'm not bothered what others think of my opinions. this season, as everyone is aware, has been a f***ing disaster. people can blame who they want and defend who they want but my overall opinion is thus: nobody is excused from the f***ing shambolic season we have had. everyone must take some sort of blame. keegan, ashley, shearer and all the way through to every single spineless f***ing player who has participated in the 38 league games this season. in my opinion, they are all f***ing cowards. and it f***ing pisses me right off. when i go to games and watch players, for example, like owen and martins, who earn around £200k p/w combined, walking about the pitch, hands on hips and giving an uninterested attitude, it boils my f***ing piss. if some people are ok with that, fine. i'm f***ing pleased for you. but me? like most, i work all day, every day. i've devoted a large amount of my hard earned into nufc and had f*** all in return to shout about, and i will continue to do so for as long as it remains financially possible. again though, i am not trying to sound like i am the best fan around, as there are always fan who have a clocked up more miles and games. but if i pay my way, which i have done for plenty of years now, i expect something in return. relegation is f***ing inexcusable. it boils my piss. yes, there's new grounds to attend next year, yes, some people might be optimistic for next season in a different division and barnsley might sell better mince pies than any other ground, but i don't give a f***. i'm f***ing devastated and highly pissed off. like you all, i want to see them playing in the top division buying the top players. i've read posts on here like similar to, "coloccini is not s***" and "i'd be ecstatic if we signed beckford." the reality is this. players like coloccini, nolan and so forth are f***ing garbage. no matter how you dress it up. no matter how coloccini or another f***ing foreign c*** played in a different division, he is s***. like every single other player in the other team. there is no player in the team who can put their hand on the heart and say he gave EVERYTHING to the cause this season. can they f***. i can't be f***ed to dig up the post re. a certain poster being "ecstatic" over beckford, but f*** me. i don't care how many goals the c*** scored in a f***ing abysmal division, a reality check is required. players like these are s**** - in a nutshell. if he wasn't, he'd have been snapped up by now. and while i'm on it; i don't think shearer is the manager to take us forward, either. whilst i appreciate he wants the club to be ran properly from top to bottom, i don't think an inexperienced manager should be taking the reigns of a club that is heading into it's darkest period in years. we need someone with experience and a good head on their shoulders. who? i do not know. it's not my job to pick. however, if or when shearer is appointed, i will give him my support. in my honest opinion, shearer should take up a higher role, and ensure the club is ran professionally from there - similar to (tin hat on) that lanky irish c*** at sunderland. on the other side of the coin, if shearer fails as manager, then the next manager installed at newcastle will not have have the monkey of alan shearer being the next manager on his back. if you think my posts are controversial, deal with it. just like i will deal with whatever you think about my posts and opinions. I'd love to see you call Alan Shearer a coward to his face.

At least he enjoyed it

Absoloutely no need for that whatsoever. You might not agree with all his posts but he's still a Newcastle fan and those kind of comments are unwaranted on this site.

Yeah was a great day at the time. We thought it would be the start of something special. Anyhow, Owen deserves credit for showing respect to Newcastle by saying he's enjoyed his time at the club, he's sad to be leaving and that he won't talk about other clubs until his contract ends out of respect to the club. How can anyone have a pop at him for that?
-
Fair play to him for that but where his 4 years really enjoyable? I don't think he seemed that happy here. It might be a long shot but If he's that sorry to leave then he might consider staying? You never know. If Shearer is reading that interview he should call him.
-
He didn't intend for that to get in the papers though to be fair. Owen seemed annoyed about the criticism he's had for the brochure, from watching that interview. I'd have liked to have seen him give us a year in The Championship on reduced wages but he feels he is a Premiership player and its a World Cup year, so there's no chance he's going to stay.
-
Fair play to him, he said he won't talk about other clubs out of respect to Newcastle, while he's still under contract. Can't argue with that, it shows a bit of integrity but surely he knows how much is left on his contact? He said he's got weeks or months left. 9 days it is actually. Fair play anyway.
-
How often do Championship players start for England? If he had integrity he'd give us a season in the championship on much reduced wages
-
Apparently Capello was there to watch him at Villa Park and if he'd scored, or put a performance in, he'd have got the call up for the Kazakstan and Andorra games because of the real striking shortage but he offered absoloutely nothing. An on form Owen would get in ahead of Carlton Cole and Darren Bent and he still has his sights set on a World Cup place. Whoever signs Owen should bear in mind, that that's all he'll care about next season. Getting back in the Endland squad but at the same time, he'll have to have a good season for whatever club he goes to, to make the squad.
-
Say the Portsmouth takeover goes through and they offer him 80k a week, or Villa come in for him with 40 or 50k and promise him first choice alongside Heskey, he would choose Portsmouth for the extra money. All being equal, he'd go to villa, so the money will probably make the difference, over where he ends up.
-
Well that's nonsense because we'd get most of that just by selling Bassong. The likes of Smith, Nolan, Martins and Collocini will all bring in a few million each.
-
Hull would not be a step up from us that's for sure - regardless of our current league status. Doubt Owen will go there. Owen will go to whoever pays the most. Unless a top club comes in for him, which won't happen. Although he's still hoping Liverpool go in for him, if they miss out on their targets.
-
Out of interest, would anyone accept Owen back on reduced wages, if no Premiership club came in for him? Its an unlikely scenario but if no Premiership club offered him a contract, then he would give us a season in The Championship and may even get a fee by selling him if he has a good season.
-
The Liverpool team Torres is playing in is a million years ahead of the one Owen played for. They still had a bloody good team when Owen was there, service was hardly in short supply. IIRC they still managed to win the FA, League and UEFA Cup in one season back then. Plus the whole team was catered around Michael Owen under Houllier. As soon as a defender or Gerrard got the ball, they'd look for the long ball or through ball to Owen because back then he had pace and could run onto a ball and finish.
-
Yup. These were the only significant mistakes made by Fred. He wasn't prepared to tackle the positions of Robson and Shearer at the right moment. His management choices were the worst. Had Robson left in the summer of 2004 and replaced with a top manager, we would not have been in solid decline ever since. Instead he sacks him early season and then brings in Greame Souness
-
He's trying to get more clubs interested in him, so he can boost his wage packet.
