£4m is good money and we cut his wages.

Vanity doesn't necessarily affect ones ability to do their job. Unless your name is Phil Brown anyway.
-
So basically he isn't like Steven Taylor then.
-
Are you telling us you cant read English either? Its explained enough times before you posted this. Why would you check SSN/BBC before reading the whole thread? Does it matter? Its a wind up and Shola will still be in the team on Saturday.
-
If signed in time? We are not even in for him, its all paper crap. Jonas then: In fact the team that started on Saturday will do.
-
Harper in goal but what's the back 4 now Bass and Beye have gone? For me: Harper R Taylor S. Taylor Colo Enrique Alan Smith Nolan Duff Tommy Smith (if signed in time) Shola Carroll. 2-0 Newcastle Crowd 45,817 When was the last time there was a crowd like that in the 2nd tier?
-
Hook, line and sinker for what? Its clearly a wind up. Be honest, when you saw the thread title and glanced at the story did you not think twice? Yes I double checked on SSN because I CAN'T SPEAK PORTUGESE. Most people did.
-
Yet when its Hulio Geordio its funny. Go figure.
-
Got to be a wind up surely. Benfica fans aren't going to be euphoric over signing Shola. Nothing on SSN/BBC either.
-
He won't get a game though. And Blue Star have gone of business now as well. I'm sure Clarky will give him 5 mins... It would be good for the lad but he should have stayed at Gateshead.

Exactly.

He is a quality Championship player. If we are to buy someone though, which I doubt we will, shouldn't we buy players that may be able to step up to the PRem at some point instead of a 29 year old average Championshit Striker. Not when we need to get the wage bill down. Premiership quality equals at least 50k a week The only thing that stopped Tommy Smith becoming a great player rather than a good one is a lack of pace. He is a really good footballer but lacks pace.

Hang on, you're comparing O'Leary's playing record to Mourinho's management record & concluding that O'Leary is the better manager because he accomplished more as a player? Based on that line of lunacy David Beckham is a better manager than Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough. Drugs are bad m'kay. I never said he was a better manager. I said that he's achieved more in football and is justified to have an ego on the back of his numerous achievements in the game. If someone like Glenn Roeder turns up with an ego then he can't justify it because he was a crap player and a failed manager. Same with Phil Brown to a large degree.
-
I admit Mourinho is a better manager but then he's not on our radar and O'Leary is.. My point is its a bit much to say DOL has nothing to have an ego about given all he's achieved in football. For most of the last 30 years O'Laery has been succesful in football, whereas Mourinho has been around 5 minutes in comparison. What's so hard to grasp about that? WTF? No that wasnt your point, thats your embarassing backtracking. This was your point. Well he hasn't has he? I'm including O'Leary's succesful 20 year playing career, when Mourinho turns up with a big ego when he never even played the game. Do keep up.

That's a laugh. Mourinho hasn't achieved half of what O'Leary has in football but Mourinho can have an ego (even before Chelsea) and O'Leary can't. Erm Mourinho had 2 league titles plus domestic cups and Uefa Cup AND Champions League success before Chelsea you brainless gimp! O'Leary is Arsenal's record appearance holder and starred in World Cup's for Ireland, won league titles, FA Cups, league cups etc etc. Mourinho never even played the game. So of course O'LLeary has achieved more in football. He has more right than Mourinho to have an ego. David O'Leary was riding high in the CL with Leeds when Mourinho was still a translator. How old were each of them at that particular time? Well O'Leary is only 5 years older than Mourinho. The fact is though, David O'Leary was winning major trophy's at Arsenal and playing in World Cup's when Mourinho was still dating cheerleaders.

As soon as he'll guide a mediocre team to the top I'll agree on the proven winner bit. But ffs he managed Porto (Portugals No 1 at that time), Chelsea (with unlimited transfer funds) and Inter (Moratti in the back; not much different to Chelski)! I still think he can't handle any pressure... Exactly. Porto - They win that league most years anyway but did give them success in Europe which got him the Chelsea job. Chelsea - much more money to spend that anyone else and Man U were in transition and Arsenal were fading away. He couldn't give them success in Europe though. Inter - Like Porto and Chelsea, was expected to win the league and they had no challengers last season. He will be judged there on his CL record and they were rubbish in Europe last season.

Yet they appointed Terry Butcher. Laughable.

Probably because he has an ego the size of a house and thinks we'll all love him after the team rally around and win 6 games on the trot. The same patronising logic that Ashley & Llambias own in spades. We're thick and fickle Geordies, we'll love him the same as Shearer and Keegan in a little while. That'll be his take on it (and theirs). TBH he reminds me of an early version of Phil Brown, permatan, nose job, massive ego with little reason for it. When did Phil Brown take a team to a Champions League semi final? Phil Brown - journeyman football player and poor manager David O'Leary - Arsenal and Irish playing legend at the highest level and excellent track record and credentials in management. That's like comparing chalk with cheese. I was talking more about their permatan obsessions and egos tbh. Egos the size of houses we can do without at the moment, it will get in the way and he'll fall out with Mikey at the first obstacle, I''m sure of that. But you never know, it might never happen, who the f*** knows. Ruud Gullit has one of the biggest egos in football yet he was welcomed with open arms. Strange He was black and had dreads so it's allowed And if we got new owners, got back to the prem and were linked with Mourinho, would you get people on here saying they don't want him because he's got an ego? Defy's belief this place at times.

I'd hate to see us become some kind of feeder club.

Phil Brown got Hull promoted and survived the first year in the Premier League beating Arsenal at the Emirates, us at SJP and a few more very impressive scalps along the way. Poor manager indeed. Let's give Phil Brown the job then.
