  1. I don't think they'll spend particularly huge amounts of money, either. Gillett and Hicks aren't *that* rich (in football terms) and will probably want to run the club like a business, so there won't be RA style stupidity. Liverpool always strike me as having been badly managed (at all levels) at precisely the wrong time to have been badly managed. If things had been just a little different, they could have been the club that did colossally well out of the premiership, as it happened, it was Man United instead.
  2. I too shall be watching the U21s, purely to see how Cahil, Young and Agbonlahor get on (the latter two should play, I'd imagine). Normally I wouldn't bother with England, I really don't care about the national team, but I'll watch tonight to see how Barry does.
  3. or barry,a natural left footer. Barry will get played at left back, which is a waste, he's much better used left side of midfield. Bridge and Barry should play tbh. f*** Cole off, he's been s**** since he went to Chelsea. Bridge has pulled out, I think.

  5. I and every Villa fan i know would happily carry him back to Newcastle if it would stop him ever playing for us again. This must surely be a case of rose tinted spectacles now he has gone.
  6. Lennon gets the nod for England because he plays for a London club, simple. See also: reasons why it took Gareth Barry so long to get a shout - playing outside the capital, not for Man U or Liverpool and not for Boro. The reason Milner looks like an old fashioned winger is because he wears his shirt baggy and not tucked in and has a haircut and face combo that looks like something out of a 1940s comic.
  7. I saw Gazza play at SJP as a kid a lot (strangely enough, given my football proclivities) and I'm still to see a better young player since. However, I don't know how he'd fare in today's game, football has changed a lot since then
  8. McCann is going through a very dodgy patch having been amazing for the first third of the season. I couldn't agree more about Gary Speed. I'd also add Sidwell at Reading, and Vidic at Man United who has been awesome (although it is probably impossible to play there and be "unsung"). Hate the fucker though I do, I'd agree on Savage as well. Hated by supporters of most teams, who at the same time secretly think "I wouldn't mind him playing for us".

    Worst Prem XI

At one point yesterday, he took the ball on his chest halfway into the West Ham half, whilst moving full pelt forwards, and nonchalantly chested it off to Young who was advancing on the wing, without even taking a glance where it was going. He also seems to have a trick involving flicking the ball over his head and running on to it- the guy has great ball control. He's also so big and strong, he just needs to stand there as the ball comes down, and defenders can't get anywhere near it. I can't believe we managed to get that in return for that utter, utter waste of space Baros.

we don't need him according to Roeder. He's the sort of centre forward that your club and ours have always loved - big, tough, bustling handful, but with a lot of skill thrown in. He's the sort of player who seems absolutely made for the English game.

    Paul Robinson

Ben Foster against us was absolutely outstanding, as he has been every time I have seen him this season. Robinson has looked highly suspect on far too regular a basis for a long while now, and should be dropped. He's a solid enough keeper, he just has James-esque moments of utter, utter cluelessness.
  12. Ignore my first post entirely. This says much better what I meant.
  13. True. No worse than Mourinho or Wenger constantly whingeing about teams going to their grounds with the intention of defending for 90 mins to try and squeeze a point out of it. Slightly more tactless given the local derby thing.
  14. There are many more ways to judge the size of a club than crowds. Such as silverware won, for a start. I've no idea what Liverpool's crowds were like in the late 70s and 80s, but I certainly remember how much they won. I'd also point out that Everton's spell of success coincided with football as a sport being almost dead and crowds everywhere being awful. I always thought that, had they had the chance to compete in it rather than be denied by the post Heysel ban, that Everton side was a banker to win the European Cup. I think Benitez was probably talking about expectations, and Everton as a "small club" in the sense of a club that would go to Anfield without any real expectations that they could win. That's a description that fits an awful lot of clubs these days, regardless of what size crowds they get.

Pulled off some top class saves yesterday! Earned us the points, tbh, when we were conspiring to throw them away. He looked dodgy at your place, mind. Talking of yesterday ..... John Carew. What a player that boy is.
  16. I was at the game today, and Upson got more stick than I've ever seen a player get before (on account of his status as a former bluenose). He had to walk the length of the trinity road stand to get off and took an enormous level of goading. He actually looked close to tears. In fact, and this may sound stupid but I think there may be some truth in it, the abuse he was getting was so bad, there are suggestions he feigned the injury to get off (it was mostly the usual "upson takes it up the arse" stuff, but from the best part of 40,000 people). West Ham are fucking awful.
  17. With all due respect, what bullshit. Randy Lerner has shown more understanding of the history of the Villa, more appreciation of supporters, and - most important - a better recognition of what the problems are combined with swift action to combat them in 6 months than the very English Doug Ellis did in 30 years. Making vast, all encompassing generalisations about groups of people based solely on their nationality is about as narrow minded as it gets, tbh
  18. The problem is that, no matter how much money the chairman provides, and no matter how well Roeder does for you this season, at the end of the day, a lot of players are going to look at the general package of moving to you, think "I'll have a bit of that", then think about whether Roeder is the sort of manager they can learn something from playing for, and decide they actually don't fancy that at all. Which is why, perversely, a shite to bad season is going to be better for you than a half decent one (which you seem to be stumbling towards), as the latter enables him to hang around for longer.
  19. Yeah, straight swap for our player of the season last term and for example MOM candidate yesterday Can't understand why Parker get's so much stick here.. I (in my biased view) thought Parker was lucky not to get at least booked last night, some of his challenges were, well, slightly overenthusiastic.
  20. This isn't sour grapes from last night, but the impression I get is that you are riding your luck to some extent. Similar to the way we did at the start of the season, only to see it spectacularly disappear later on. The game last night, the Spurs game, they were 6 points you were - imho - lucky to get. having said that, this league is so shit, that anyone who puts together a 3 or 4 match run can find themselves in a European position, so anything could happen.
  21. He makes up for it by creating space for himself. I thought he was your best player by far, and I wish we'd got him in the summer window. Can't help but wish the lad well, though. He always gave 110 percent for us, and you can't knock what he has done since the shabby treatment of the last day of the last window. He's only going to get better, too Touché, especially the bit in bold. Touche'? I'm bigging him up, and you've got to say, a lot of players would have just got into a strop after what happened, he didn't though. Fair play to him. EDIT and by muppets, I didnt mean what you said about his pace, I mean the people on here who seem to slag him endlessly. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/dict.asp?Word=touch%E9 Ah, apols. I was taking it at the playground, "oooh, get you!" meaning.
