  1. Surely one of the Bristol clubs would be a good move. Enormous catchment area, cheap to get hold of.
  2. Surely calling African players "talented but naive" is the oldest cliche in football. See every world cup since 1974 for more evidence.
  3. I just heard on Talksport that you've matched West Ham's offer for SWP. Think it will be irrelevant anyway, as he will stay in London, but i don't get it. Why on earth do you need to spaff 10m on a player for a position you've got someone doing very well in when you've got other areas far more obviously in need of work? And if it turns out to be true, regardless of whether he comes to you, you've got to wonder how Milner's going to feel having done so well this season despite being dicked around in the summer, only to get another slap in the face.
  4. If Milner is leaving, I know where I hope he ends up. I'm personally not sure SWP is a better bet, anyway.
  5. Tevez has been played out of position (when actually given a go) and Mascherano hardly gets a game at all. It must be some of the worst player management ever, to be in the shit and have two such quality players not getting a go. They've also been made scapegoats, and are tainted with the failed takeover bid, which is just ridiculous. I shall believe otherwise when someone convinces me that Bobby Zamora is a better bet up front than Carlos Tevez.
  6. West Ham went for, what, 120m? Newcastle are up for, what, 200m or something mental? You've got to say, a largely debt-free, efficiently - if unadventurously - run Aston Villa, with a stadium which only needs one end redeveloping, and even that not urgently, for 65m was something of a snip.

    Who would you buy?

   Seeing Aaron Hughes at the Villa makes me, and every other Villa supporter I know, remember what a f***ing mug David O'Leary was for buying him off you in the first place. Most of us would quite happily carry him shoulder high back to newcastle, he is an absolutely shocking player.
  8. Barry is absolutely wasted at left back, I much prefer when MON sticks him in midfield and Bouma at left back (what with him actually being a LB at international level). Of that list, I'd take Taylor from Portsmouth. Traore I wouldn't prod with the very longest of shitty sticks.
  9. In fairness to the old git, this isn't actually true. Slipped into debt last season to the tune of 12m, which is not really a whole heap of debt to be in. On the wider point of finding a RA style buyer (which, let's face it, isn't going to happen, he's a one-off) then FS could be proactive in finding a buyer and appoint someone to help. Ellis appointed Rothschilds, who did all the initial talking to interested parties, checked the status of bidders etc, and whittled them down to the 5 bids that got through to Ellis. If FS really was interested in selling to a decent buyer, this would seem like the thing to do.

    "United"...

not bloody well surprised,BCFC play in red and white and play at ashton gate!!!! anyway......the point is it's annoying that over the last 15 years or so the media have just ripped the name from others..i don't mind calling any team united if they are playing against a city or town...bet they wouldn't say "united on the attack" if it was us V's sheffield utd.this talk of they haven't got a proper nickname etc, well i'm sure they coped on motd when i were t'lad and they didnt call em unoyted then! :winking: As i said in my first post, I fully understand why it would be annoying for your fans, even if in another way it is understandable. I have to say, we're fortunate in being the only "Villa" but what I particularly like is being referred to as "the Villa". If we had to share a moniker with those Manc cnuts, it'd be hellish. is your "villa" the same as the "on the slide villa"......no doubt different teams with a similar name :winking: Sadly, yes. Although another name would be "the on the slide, yet still above the Toon despite being forced to field a team of players so young, they haven't actually had the umbilical chord snipped yet Villa" :winking:

  12. Impressive last season, has looked like nothing but an attitude problem on legs this season. Nein danke.

    "United"...

Exquisitely made point, and it is true, I've never heard NUFC referred to as United. I think what happens is that as soon as Man United enter the equation, something clicks within me, which flags every single thing that could possibly annoy me about them as being *incredibly* annoying. I pity Citeh fans having to share the city with them. In fact, the fact that they do has always made me like Man City as a club. Although the thing that most made me like that was when we were pushing Man U for the league in the 92/93, and when we played you at our place, your fans had a banner saying "Good luck Villa". We all appreciated that hugely, and understood it. I've never in my life heard a Blues fan refer to BCFC as City, by the way, I just assumed the "Blues" thing was local, still.

    "United"...

I was talking about this very thing this morning with a colleague, and pointing out that if I were a Barcode Newcastle fan, the use of "United" in the commentary the other day would have annoyed the living shit out of me, I think you've got good reason to be pissed off. Dr Spectrum - re Birmingham calling themselves "Blues" - obv, where I'm from, we all know what this means, but I wasn't aware for a moment that elsewhere in the country the term was seen as referring to them any more than it would to, say, Everton or your lot, even. Or is that the point you were trying to make?
  15. Yeah they should have played an expansive game and let Chelsea walk all over them???? Credit to Villa,2 points from the 2 league games with Chelsea is 2 more than what they would have expected pre-season. Exactly. Today, our team included: Kiraly, keeper borrowed from Palace as two first choice keepers injured. Ridgewell, Davis, Cahill, Gardener, Agbonlahor, Osbourne = all youth team products, three of whom are still only 19 or so. On the back of losing 4 in a row, and against players of the quality of Essien, Drogba, Lampard, Cole etc etc etc, it was a creditable result.
  16. Good player, would do well for us imo. Don't think they would sell though. Alot of Villa fans i know think that he only turns out for Sweden, and would definitely get rid.He was garbage at Charlton Saturday but thats the only time i've seen him play that bad TBH. What??? I have never, ever heard a Villa fan say that about Lord Olof, he's up there with Barry as most popular player at the club, so I don't know who you have been listening to Oh, and as for the mention of Hughes up there, Gejon is right, I've got a low opinion of him. He is shockingly inept, one of the worst players I've seen turn out for us in 30 plus years attending matches. Every other Villa fan will tell you the same. Every match without fail, he gives away at least one goal scoring chance, without fail. We're better with Mellberg at RB and Cahill and Ridgewell in the middle. We did OK tonight but out have two major problems. The final ball through to the attackers is always shite, and when the forwards do get it, they don't know what to do with it. I went to Charlton on Saturday and we were pretty poor there. Today was an improvement. Surprised Chelsea didnt sell their allocation, mind.
  17. I've been offered a ticket for this (home end), and as our defeat away at Man United is the day after, am seriously considering breaking my self imposed exile from that fecking Sty. I shall of course be sitting on my hands, keeping my mouth shut, and urging your lot on. The horrible thing is, I can actually see them getting a result against you. Despite today's result, they're on form.
  18. Fair point re the statistics but they mask the fact that Souness was also largely responsible for destroying the "boot room" culture at Liverpool, and they have now not won the league in 16 years. Also, Souness achieved what he did in Scotland by having a huge amount of money to spend. MON did not, and he turned around the Rangers dominance. Look at who is the dominant force in Scottish football now, despite having Gordon Strachan as manager. Good point, the biggest point though at the end of the day regarding Souness was that he was strongly rumoured to get the sack when we approached Blackburn! You're clutching at straws, Jon. FFS learn how to concede a point. It's not a big deal and you're not conceding the argument. I hate him and would like even the chance to kick his head in, but Souness had a sound track record and a better one than the much praised O'Neill. When you appointed Souness, a lot of neutrals were, frankly, staggered. He was already one of those managers who caused manager-less clubs to shudder in fear when his name was linked with them. That says more than the above mentioned track records, which tell a different story if you look into them, in any case.
  19. I hope so, but not necesarily. It is very difficult and dangerous to move people with severe neck injuries.

  21. Very funny quote by the Merse on SSN earlier, talking about Boro and Southgate's failure to motivate the players - "most players who go to Boro go there purely for the money. I know I did".
  22. Since when have you been the team everyone loves to hate? I don't get this at all. True, in the Keegan years, you were entertaining to watch and everyone had a soft spot for you. Now, you've become one of the many "could be, also-rans" which most people are entirely ambivalent about (see also villa, spurs, everton, man city), but to say you're the club everyone loves to hate is ridiculous and a little self pitying imho. The only other emotion i would suggest people have for you is jealousy re some of the players you have had. Moan about trophy signings all you like, but I wish we'd made a few in the Ellis years.
  23. We were very close to signing Beattie when he went to Everton, something happened at the last minute - he probably clocked O'Leary's pug-nosed face on telly talking the club down and realise what a twonk he was - and he opted for Everton. I have to say, I'm glad he did. Their fans seem to think he is shite, by and large, and even before then has never been massively prolific. I think he'd be a bad buy, made only slightly palatable by the fact that there isn't going to be much talent available in January. Oh, and on a wider point of Roeder discussing transfer targets, what is the point in doing this? What possible benefit is there? Surely best to stay shtum, make the deal happening the first people hear about it.

    Our away fans

When we played at Everton this year, they were singing "fuck all, you've never won fuck all" at us, which is emblematic of the ignorance of a lot of football fans these days. Some of our lot at Charlton yesterday were every bit as bad. We've got a song about that Tracey Andrews, that blonde, Villa supporting bird who killed her (Birmingham supporting) boyfriend and made it look like he was murdered in a road rage incident. The gist of it is "Tracy Andrews is our friend, she kills (blue)noses, let her out to kill some more" etc etc etc. It makes me fecking cringe every time I hear it, people just don't stop and think about what they're singing.
