  1. Looking at the state of football club finances (Man U and Liverpool in massive debt and the shit hitting the fan at Portsmouth, West Ham, Cardiff, etc.) I can't see Ashley being able to find a buyer for NUFC. With the state of the world economy who has the money to buy Newcastle? I wouldn't want an owner like Man U and Liverpool have but having said that, I doubt anyone would be able to get those sort of loans any more. Looks like the 'Yes we can' fan campaign is the best hope and that looks like a long shot.
  2. You cut your cloth accordingly. It's pretty obvious Newcastle will be shopping in the bargain basement, free transfer market while Ashley is the owner. Who's the best striker we can get for not much money is the game we're playing.
  3. I'll take your word for it. Do you think he's doing well enough to attract a buyer?
  4. Or get Xisco back from his loan. How is he doing in Spain anyway? Pretty shit. He'll be back when his loan ends unless Newcastle give him away.
  5. Also Harewood, just like Beckford, is in the last six months of his contract which in my mind reduces his value even more.
  6. If the above story is true, no way would I pay that for Harewood.
  7. So we didn't give Andy Cole a chance after he had bombed at Arsenal, and by all accounts had a shit attitude at Bristol City? People weren't happy when we bought Bellamy. Coventry fans didn't rate him. He turned out to be a success for us. That doesn't guarantee Beckford is nailed on to do the same.
  8. Yes, we'll all hope he fails because that will prove that we were right! What we are saying is that he's a gamble and we don't agree with spending millions on him and giving him £15K a week based on League 1 performance. If we do sign him we'll all obviously hope he's a massive success.
  9. You seem to be forgetting that Beckford is a League 1 player. It's not like a top player running down their contract and then getting a huge signing on fee and a big fat weekly wage. Also, if Beckford is so good how come no other clubs are beating a path to his door? He's a gamble. One that may or may not pay off. I'm not happy for the club to pay that fee and those wages and you are. Neither of our opinions will affect what happens in reality.
  10. I'll happily admit to knowing next to nothing about Beckford but what I do know is if we buy him and pay him £15K a week wages we're stuck with him until the end of his contract if it doesn't work out. At least if we didn't pay a fee for him that £15K a week would take a while before £2m is paid out.
  11. What if the loan signing will score a couple of goals while the permenant signing will get 15+? We should go for the best player we can get as long as his value can easily increase and his wages aren't high. The fact that his contract runs out in 6 months doesn't mean he won't easily be worth £2m+ to us. "IF" What if the loan signing scores 15+ and Beckford scored a couple? To me, paying more than £2m for the unproven Beckford is a massive gamble. Paying him £15K a week is also mad. Sign him up for a 3 year contract and find out he doesn't cut it in the Championship/Premiership. There's a chance Beckford could turn out to be a Bellamy but there's also a chance he could be a David Healy. How the hell would we be able to sell Beckford if we bought him for £2M+ and then put him on £15K a week and he flopped for us? The clubs who'd want him wouldn't be able to offer him wages he'd accept. He'd be to us like David Healy is for Sunderland.
  12. I'd rather we loaned players than paid millions for players who are available for free in six months (Beckford and Kilgallon).
  13. From reading the following articles Man U sound like they're screwed some time in the next 10 years: - http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2010/01/fergies_bond_is_a_bind_for_eve.html http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/?p=5469
  14. Angola's one of the most unstable countries in Africa...shouldn't be held there at all...South Africa is vastly different... I was talking to a guy from South African last week and he said he can't believe they are going to hold the World Cup in South African. He thinks it's a certainty there will be big trouble.
  15. Viana a fan's favourite?? No-one liked Viana. Which is a shame because he was actually quite good. There was definitely a time when Viana was a fan favourite. He wasn't liked by the end of his Newcastle career. Lua Lua was another fan favourite. The crowd have a history of liking players who take the headless chicken approach to the game. Probably because we like to see players run at the opposition (hence why everyone got excited about Pancrate when he first played). We like any player that's good or at least puts some effort in. But when most of your team has the do fuck all approach to the game the headless chicken can look great in comparison. By the way, you're not saying you think Viana took the headless chicken approach are you? Correct, I'm not saying Viana took the headless chicken approach.

  17. I think the reasoning is because it is due to keep snowing. Strange that Middlesbrough's game hasn't been called off yet.
  18. Who says Leeds would want Ranger? They may be able to see past the hype. I'm sure most people only like Ranger because of his "STR8 like a banana" internet bollocks. He's another one of the Newcastle crowd's unjustifiable (so far) fan favourites (following in the footsteps of Viana and Ketsbia).
  19. I don't know whether to be excited or not about the possibility of Newcastle buying Beckford. The jury's still out on him cutting it in the Championship (never mind the Premiership). He's a gamble. If Newcastle buy him hopefully it will pay off like Bellamy did. With Ameobi, Carroll, Lovenkrands and Ranger on the books the fact that Hughton says he want another striker shows how much faith he has in our current strike force. I can't say I blame him.
  20. Half the clubs in the Premiership wouldn't be there if they relied purely on fan attendance to fund themselves. Rich people have paid to get certain clubs higher than they would naturally have ever reached. It's one of the things that annoys me about football today. Half empty stadiums in the Premiership while well supported clubs like Newcastle and Leeds are in lower leagues. I suppose being well run helps though! Looks like the bubble is bursting though for all the clubs that have overextended themselves.
