  1. Why would anyone spend £80m+ on a championship side when you can buy a lot of Premiership clubs for less? I still find it massively depressing that the people who bought Man City tried to buy us first but Ashley turned them down. Imagine what NUFC would have been like with that investment. Some people may not have wanted us to 'do a Chelsea' but it's a hell of a lot better than the situation we're in now.
  2. Newcastle (among others) offered him a contract before he signed for Notts County. Most people think he went there for the money. He may be a player who could do a job for us but I wouldn't be interested in paying him crazy money. He's at the end of his career. The Arsenal/Tottenham type weekly wages days are over Sol.
  3. If we don't get promoted he'll probably shout "double-or-quits!"
  4. For all the "the club is no longer for sale" talk everyone knows that if he received an offer he liked he'd take it. The club 'officially' being for sale or not makes no difference.
  5. Just checked his goal scoring record for us: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damien_Duff From 2006/2007 season to 2009: - 4 Premier League Goals 1 Championship Goal 1 Cup Goal Based on that his 2 goals in 2 months for Fulham is amazing.
  6. Duff seems to score goals with Fulham. Rarely did when he was with us.
  7. Lose (or draw) this game and the 'unveiling' of Hughton as manager on Monday will be even more of a damp squib than it already is. Well, at least with the points we already have on the board we probably won't be relegated this season.
  8. i thought messi was one of the four players guarenteed a place? along with jonas, does seem strange to mention a championship winger and arguably the worlds best player in the same sentence. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/10/15/nufc-boss-hughton-hopes-for-gutierrez-bonus-72703-24937081/2/
  9. You have to wonder about the sanity of a man who confirms Jonas will be in his world cup squad but hasn't confirmed the likes of Messi or Tevez will be. I know who I'd rather have in the Newcastle team!
  10. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/F15042784?thread=7000957&show=50 You obviously didn't see this then: -
  11. I always laugh when I hear that on Fifa. It should have been updated to say "The only thing missing at St. James' is a new owner, a permanent manager, a plan for the future, a trophy, etc."
  12. As disappointing as these last two results have been our closest rival (West Brom) have also had a bit of a 'slump'.
  13. I can't see Ashley splashing the cash if he's still to owner when the transfer window opens. Nothing stopping us trying to loan a creative midfielder/winger now though (apart from Ashley).
  14. If the 'fan' hadn't broken the law by invading the pitch he wouldn't have been punched. Next they'll be telling me I can't attack a burglar in my own home.

    Geremi

Geremi's contract ends in June 2010 according to: - http://www.nufc.com/2009-10html/squad.html Nicky Butt's contract also ends in June 2010 so that will be two expensive wage players off the books by then.
  16. "Andy Carroll has rifled home with his left foot at Gallowgate." NOT A HEADER!
  17. "Now Calderwood having a go at Lovenkrands." http://www.blogonthetyne.co.uk/2009/09/blog-on-the-tyne-at-the-plymou.html
  18. Reading Lee Ryder, Lovenkrands had Enrique shouting at him to help him. He's also just had an argument with Nolan. http://www.blogonthetyne.co.uk/2009/09/blog-on-the-tyne-at-the-plymou.html "Barton has struggled to get into this game and with Lovenkrands looking off the boil, there could well be changes in the engine room at the break."
  19. Looking on the bright side, Nicky Butt is in the last year of his contract.
  20. The worst thing I heard about all this was that someone (i.e. an Arsenal fan) complained to the police that Adebayor swore and the police are investigating. So fans are allowed to shout anything they like but if a player says something back you report him to the police? Pathetic.
  21. It's strange how these Championship teams were usually a 'banana skin' to the Premiership Newcastle when we played them in the cups but we are beating them now we are in the same league.
  22. Agree! How come their players didn't get any cards yet he seemed to give them to our players every challenge? The game was like watching Rugby. There was a stoppage every minute or so. The only shot I can remember us having was the one we scored. Glad we won but NUFC don't half put their supporters through the mill. We seemed to constantly give the ball away and invite them to attack us.

    Man City

Will probably get a ban after his antics yesterday though. That player who celebrated in front of the fans while they were fighting in that West Ham v Millwall game wasn't punished was he?
