At first glance there doesn't seem to be any. Then again the transfer window isn't over yet so it may not be the time to be declaring unconditional surrender. the fuck happened to you? i remember when you were virtually suicidal at one point, now we're back to wait and see? again

if i think about this whole sorry saga from a disconnected perspective (i.e. not a fan) i can see some sense in the way ashley is running things tbh look at top flight football in england as a whole; aside from luck what would it take for us to reach the top 6 and Europe again, what would it take to scrape 4th and the CL, what would it take to challenge for the title? i'm talking consistently here, not as a one off realistically unless you get lucky with a shit hot manager or spend decent amounts of money there's no way top 4 is even realistic anymore, and is top 6 worth the financial risk it'd take to get there? i'm not so sure in his eyes PL as a competitive challenge is totally fucked (at the top end), and ashley probably knows this, so for him eeking by as we have been by planning to beat the drop and squeeze out as many 500k's from league positions is probably the extent of his ambition until he's bought out feeling a bit glum about it all today, but perhaps he's right

who is? not heard anyone calling for that level of investment, perhaps ages ago when we sold carroll people might have got excited but in the cold light of day no-one is expecting that imo, no-one I'm not trawling trough the board to get names, but there are plenty of comments in the transfer threads adding the Carroll and Nolan fees together and moaning that we're not reinvesting it all true, not sure i'd go as far as plenty but there were some fuckwits saying that i suppose

right, it's always extremes - ask for investment and it gets answered with "we could have paid 10m for carlton cole" well aye, we could, but we could also maybe have scouted another player that might have been mint for the same price, or more, or less, if we were serious about wanting quality on the pitch We did - we got Ba on a free ok so we got one good striker for free, and in response to asking for the club to spend you answer with "we could have pissed 10m away on carlton cole" it doesn't add up...why can we only be astute when there's no money involved?

sums up my feelings

it's certainly not a good thing when you're looking to progress as a football team and have manageable debt...

this, no-one was expecting 35m in fees to be lashed out personally on the gameiro and gervihno bids i think they went in strong for 2 players they felt very strongly would increase in value, or at the very worst not depreciate once they were dead they didn't have anyone else with the same profile and thus haven't moved strongly for them, hence the tooing and froing with erdinc
-
what jayson said, bargains are great and i fully endorse them - they should not, however, be the sole focus of our team building plans as i've already stated i personally feel this will lead to us being fucked in the long run
-
i don't think it matters as Ba is obviously a good signing for free/agents fees we can't build a squad on signings like that though, there just aren't enough knocking about - eventually you'll end up in the realms of accepting poor quality players because they're coming free/cheap this is my concern, it's similar to when managers like mick mccarthy bring teams of grafters up and they surprise everyone...it works for a while but they always get caught out in the end that's what i think will happen to us in the long run, if it was as easy as just running about picking up free players why are we the only ones using it as our primary means of acquiring players?
-
you missed the 35m out of that list. 35m. just saying

14m bid for n'zogbia again 5 minutes before the deadline most likely
-
but "reports" that we've bid mean something?

it's awesome isn't it...arsenal & the mackems will be fucking shitting themselves -
we're making them sweat obviously, them being rolling in money now they'll get desperate near the end of the window right? right?
-
i have no problem with the job the scouts are doing to be honest, who does? problem is with the money (not) being spent nowt else "limitations breed creativity" i like that actually, sums it up pretty well
-
i'd love to know the mechanics of how we're exploiting all these clauses and shit, i suppose there must be loads of players with contractual clauses and expirations so maybe the scouting teams remit is to go and scout all of them and choose the best ones? Agents job to hawk their players about and make people aware of said clauses surely. just meant from our side really...i mean are we even looking at players who we have negotiate and pay for now or do we just scout the clauses and expiring contracts? probably a mixture with the focus on the clauses and shit imo

scouting overall is ok, good even; cabaye was a steal (hopefully), abeid, ba and marveaux all good moves but this was about a striker 'cause we accepted 35m when we had a average-poor strikeforce as it was and we should have expected more but aye, let's wait and see again we might be surprised, benefit of the doubt for del & mike again i suppose
-
he was on about scouting and targets having 7 months to do the work, we "moved" for 2 very well known and highly sought after players from france and have then basically been floundering like a fish out of water since if we were going to operate on such low funds as we evidently are i'd have expected the scouting to turn up some unknowns myself, at least 1 or 2 investments who may or may not make it...assuming that's the business model (buy cheap sell high) as it is we seem to have a bid in for someone pretty average to go with ba ar fuck it i give up, it is just moaning at the end of the day but so we fucking should be moaning
-
despair
-
that the name of a backstreet slapper del and mike frequent?
-
what's so dowie about that, he's fucking right...assuming of course you operate on the idea that we ever intended to spend any serious money on a striker at all, which i don't or is a dowie 'cause we all have to wait until 1st september or whatever to confirm what's blatantly obvious right now?
