Ritchie is nothing special in regards to talent but I feel he's been an important character over the last 2 seasons. Swapping him for a player that seems a bit fairweather, and that is yet to have a full good season in the premier league, doesn't seem smart. Townsend is capable of better performances than Ritchie but that's not enough.

Players that score more than they miss cost an absolute fortune. Maybe there's a good poacher out there, but then they won't do a job for the team. What we seem to need is someone that finishes more than they miss, that has technical ability, workrate, pace, and tactical awareness.

I thought he had 2 decent games followed by a difficult one. I don't think it matters though, I never bought into the idea that he could raise or lower his value in any meaningful way at the WC. The teams that are interested in him are limited financially, and because of that we will be looking at a max of 18-20m. Fuck knows where we find a striker for that much that people will rate though.
