  1. If I'm not mistaken, Keegan said 10 days ago that we'd have something to talk about in 10 days. So I was expecting something today. But apparently, he was speaking of Berbatov to Man Ure.

    Danny Guthrie man !!

Well, we've certainly been talking about that. My mistake.

  2. The only worthwhile contribution he made last season came by mistake when he was scrabbling round on the floor and luckily found Viduka who put it away.

I can't even remember any decent efforts he had, or when he played in midfield a particularly good bit of attacking or defensive skill.

Didn't he draw the penalty that resulted in Barton's only goal?

  3. Does anyone hold any hope for Alan Smith in his second season with us?

For what it's worth, I think he's got more talent than he displayed last season and, maybe, Allardyce put too much pressure on him - especially towards the end of his reign when Smith was made captain. I think he can turn his career around...but then again, I was one of those who thought he was a good signing last season.

What are your thoughts / predictions for Mr. Smith this upcoming term?

  4. Basically, we should look at Guthrie's signing as a prudent move to strengthen our squad with a young player for little money and not as an indictment of our club's ambitions.

I suggest that all the compulsive complainers stop reading the papers until the season starts and see who we have on our team at that point.

  5. We simply cannot let him leave right now. I personally don't care how much sulking he is doing. He's contracted to us and we are dangerously short of players at the moment. Unless we know for a fact that we can sell him and turn around the transfer fee for another left-sided midfielder, then I'll be upset we let him go.

  6. If at the end of the transfer window we've only signed Jonas and Guthrie, then I'll be upset. But, there is still plenty of time and we obviously have no idea who our club is looking at. Guthrie will be a decent enough squad player, and I'm sure that's what he's being brought in for. More signings will come. Patience.

  7. Taking things a bit more seriously, if he has said this (and the paper hasn't fabricated his quotes like NOTW has done once), then it's a bit worrying.

It seems, to me, to be him saying that he hasn't got enough money to help us push up and challenge for the top 4, and our only way of doing it will be through signing young players and developing them.

Again, I stress that this highly contingent on the fact that he's said this for real and other quotes (which would change the context) haven't been cut out. But if it's true, then it's something that worries me because we'll end up being a yo-yo team like Everton, a decent-good team that just doesn't have enough cash to make the necessary investments in the squad.

I've no idea what his plans are, but it doesn't say that to me at all. ???

Looking for investors is pure common sense I don't read it any other way. More ammo the better imo.

If you have the cash, why would you need investors? Serious question btw. Seems to me that you only need investors if you lack a bit of £££. Chelsea don't any, neither do Portsmouth, and similarly Man Utd don't.... however, Liverpool do.

From what I understand - and it's only what I've read - Chelsea had been operating in huge deficits over the past few years, and so have Manchester United. I don't know about Portsmouth.

Bottom line, Ashley is not Abramovich, and we shouldn't expect him to be.

  8. Imagine their back-up defence:

    Ashdown

    Hibbert - Kaboul - Traore - Babayaro

    and ours is:

    edgar-cacapa-edgar-edgar

This thread has officially depressed me.
