Benfica 3 - 1 Newcastle United - 04/04/13 - post-match reaction from page 62

It was a decent game plan against a superior side. We were very, very unlucky over the course of the tie. Pardew's had some terrible games but that wasn't one of them. -
They can just record two: Winning - 'Sit deep and pump it long' Drawing / Losing - 'Pump it long' Myth Only Arsenal play less long balls than us, we are second bottom of the long ball stats/per game, joint with Man City. http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/3853/Stages/7794/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2013-2014 Aston Villa 71 Southampton 70 Fulham 68 Everton 67 Norwich 67 Hull 66 Cardiff 66 West Ham 66 Swansea 65 Sunderland 65 Tottenham 64 Chelsea 63 Man United 62 WBA 62 Crystal Palace 62 Stoke 60 Liverpool 56 Man City 55 NUFC 55 Arsenal 54 Stats! You can prove anything with stats. I can see the long balls with my eyes man. I mean, clearly, they're not actually happening, but I can still see them with my eyes.

And I can use the exact same gif for all your posts! This is gonna be great.

I'd have taken this position at the start of the season but then I've been brainwashed by Ashley and had my ambition stripped from me.

People get caught up in soundbytes in clubs statements in how cups and europe aren't financially worth targeting or whatever s**** they said. End of the day though, they aren't on the pitch to stop the players from giving it a go. Yes we've had some dire cup performances, and last season million miles from Europe in the league but as far as i can see right now, the players/manager are going all out for highest possible position. I couldn't have been anymore pleased with how they handled themselves on the pitch at Hull. So p*ssed off that this headbutt has totally taken the shine of the players and even Pardew's own tactics to an extent. He’s let everyone down by his actions and he’ll know it. Even with that headbutt though, everyone left Hull with a belief we can get into Europe this season and we are still very much alive and kicking. You didn't leave the stadium thinking what a waste of time, we are done for, players have packed up their cases for the summer hols and we've nothing left to play for. Instead they did us proud and showed there's still life in this season yet, what more could you ask of them? Probably because Brett is, in fact, spot on.

How can a guy with such a poor grasp of written English be working for The Telegraph?
-
Yeah but they don't actually believe that, they just want Pardew gone for any reason whatsoever.
-
No but it's a close run thing. Terrible behaviour. Obviously I Don't subscribe to the preposterous but popular notion that "anyone" would be better than Pardew and will expect his replacement to be more of the same/worse.
-
Well, a Premier League manager has headbutted a player. Just think about that sentence. Not exactly something that happens every day. even calling it a headbutt is generous but I know by football standards. Just annoyed by the sanctimonious holier than though attitude of most of the coverage of it. Led by that modern day saint Robbie f****** Savage.

He just stayed out of the way and let the players do their stuff. From him I suppose that's a massive plus. You don't do yourself any favours with stuff like this. So every defeat is Pardew's fault and every win is him "getting out of the way"? It's fairly clear to be honest. He didn't pull everybody back behind the ball when we took the lead for once and we won comfortably. He just stayed out of the way and let the players do their stuff. Thats him setting up a team up to counter attack (very well in this instance) and persevering with the tactic.

C'mon man. We've hardly been boring in this game so far.
-
Can I stick my neck out? If I can, I'll add that because of Pardew's clear shortcomings we'll under achieve next season as he's one of our main problems. Fair enough, yeah.
-
I'll stick my neck out and say despite Pardews clear shortcomings there's no chance of us being relegated next season. We have enough real problems without folk constantly over egging it.
-
Here's another one they probably think but don't share with you: What more do they want for a poor little club up north? Deluded facking Geordies." Well "deluded" comes up quite a bit. Not so much being a "poor club up north", more "well you've never won anything and were relegated only a few seasons ago, so being just outside the euro spots, while spending nothing, ain't bad at all".
-
"Pardew - very good manager" "Another decent season - you must be pleased" "Big improvement on last year, considering how little Pardew's got to work with" These are the things I hear in real life whenever I meet my non-NUFC supporter mates. They look pretty bewildered when I bring up any grievances. And only some of them are dim.
