Just too many games.
-
Never been so happy to see Sandro off.
-
The difference in Bruno tracking back there and Tonali. Sandro is just off it.
-
Miley has shown it at CM too though.
-
Tino for Tonali > Miley to midfield Barnes on
-
We need more Halls and Mileys.
-
It’s like we hate having the ball for too long.

ChatGPT I couldn’t find a single page with semifinalists, but the info is out there spread around. It weighed a bunch of potential sources and I think settled on scraping from each season’s wiki page. I spot checked some. It would struggle with the type of examples you mentioned though unless you were providing the database. It doesn’t have access to Opta data or anything.

Following up on the idea that we're "massively underperforming" and the general lack of appreciation of Eddie Howe from some... another thing I don't really understand is why his League Cup record seems to be taken for granted. 20 games - 16 wins, 3 draws, and 1 defeat in normal time (2-1 in penalty shootouts) 3 semifinals in 4 seasons (only one other in the club's history) 2 finals (only one other in the club's history) 1 cup (only one in the club's history) For a club that has been desperate to win anything I'm not sure why there already seems to be a been there, done that kind of attitude towards it. Maybe because it's the League Cup? Or an assumption that there's nothing special about the above? Here's every club since 2000 to reach the semifinals three times in a four year period: note: I used AI for this but pretty sure it's right Arsenal (2003-04, 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08) ~ 4 in 5 Chelsea (2004–05, 2006–07, 2007–08) Manchester City (2017–18, 2018–19, 2019–20, 2020–21) ~ 4 in a row Manchester United (2019–20, 2020–21, 2022–23) Tottenham Hotspur (2006–07, 2007–08, 2008–09) Liverpool (2021–22, 2023–24, 2024–25) Newcastle United (2022–23, 2024–25, 2025–26) Many of those involved managerial changes, so that also means Eddie is just the third manager this century to do it joining Pep and Wenger (Wenger never won it). And in this "lost" season we still have a chance to become repeat champions. How common is that? Manchester City 2018-21 (4 in a row) Liverpool 1981-84 (4 in a row) Manchester United 2009-10 (2) Nottingham Forest 1978-79 (2) Nottingham Forest 1989-90 (2) So Pep, Paisley, Fergie, and Clough. That's it. While the odds are against us, Eddie joining that group is in play and for some reason there's a not insignificant number of people ready to move on.

Looks like he could play strong safety for Newcastle’s NFL team too.

We’re literally 2 points off 7th halfway through the season for everyone who is obsessed with us being equal to or better than our revenue / spending at all times. A PL panel just voted 3-2 that Gordon v Chelsea should have been a penalty and we conceded an incredibly soft goal to Spurs with our backup keeper. We win either of those and we’re 7th; both and we’re joint 5th. Plus we’re heading towards the CL playoff and in a cup semifinal. The summer signings can be debated, away form is bad, our mentality with a lead is soft, our midfield has question marks, and we’re struggling to score. But we’re not “massively underperforming.” What we’re not currently doing is over performing, which for some reason is used as a rod for the manager instead of appreciating his ability to do that multiple times and understanding the reality of where we are.
-
Come on. There’s no reason to think Eddie is going to be instantly shown the door with one down season. Sometimes managers and coaches go stale somewhere, but sometimes there’s just a down or transition season. I don’t understand this burning desire to move onto something new.
-
The stats apply to all. Villa last season is a good example of it working. January business likely saved their season; they just fell a little short of the CL.
-
From a recent ESPN article: Doesn’t mean it’s impossible of course, but rare that it’s tremendously impactful.
-
Can’t imagine where we’d be if we had signed him when first linked.
-
Whether fatigue or personal problems I couldn’t have believed a few months ago that he’d be one of our biggest problems. One of the biggest offenders in giving the ball away.
-
Our current pace has us 5-6 goals short from our wingers so far compared to the last three seasons. Despite a number of problems imagine where we’d be with those. The Gordon and Murphy chances today are examples of where in the past we bury those and the game is done. It’s the difference between some of the late heartbreaks and comfortably getting 3 points.
-
Problem 1: the midfield led by the woefully out of form Italian. The best fix for this would be Miley, but he’s our RB so I don’t know. We “sit back” in many cases because we can’t keep the ball. So many moments where we just concede possession. Problem 2: we don’t get goals from our wingers. Barnes and Murphy have 5 combined. Gordon and Elanga have zero in the league (non-penalty). Last season we got 22 from Barnes / Murphy / Gordon 2023/24: 21 from Barnes / Gordon / Murphy / Miggy 2022/23: 20+ from Miggy / Joelinton / Murphy / ASM
-
We should be out of sight. Of course Barnes not on for that.
-
10 minutes in I was thinking how we might be able to rest some tonight. How naive.
-
Midfield and lack of goal contributions from the wingers are problems 1 and 2 IMO.
-
I’m just done with our midfield right now.
-
Don’t think it’s a coincidence we looked better in those games with him there. The midfield is a serious problem at the moment.
-
It’d probably be 2-2 with Ramsdale.
