Not sure how anyone can comment on what's important to someone else. I'm sure there are players, especially those that have already made a lot of money, who would play for free if that was their only option as they love playing. That doesn't make any sense. He's under contract for 2011-12. If he's one of the best 11 then the club would be punishing itself by starting him as a substitute. What would be the point? If they can't agree on a contract that's fine, it happens all the time. He's an aging player on a big contract who just came off a good season. You can see why he would want an extension and the same or more wage. Conversely, he's not likely to get any better and has been a disappointment for most of his time here so you could see why the club would either want to sell him or have him see out his deal and move on.
