I feel like this is going to happen too.

I wish every club was publicly traded just for the transparency. Confirms that the £15m came from the Italian side and the £20m would require add-ons to be met.

You're in the ballpark. There's some math in the first post of this thread if you want to compare. We really need the new accounts to be released so that we're only 7-12 months behind instead of 18+.

The only way Eddie should have a real problem with what we've done this month is if the internal expectations of him do not align with our approach and the realities of our situation. If this is a necessary and/or strategic reset of our finances then he also can't be judged too harshly if we fail to qualify for the CL or win a trophy. There's no reason to think that is happening.

When wondering what sales could do for our budget (assuming they aren't making up for shortfalls), here's a better method than multiplying the fees by five like you'll often see the engagement merchants doing: - Take the profit of the sale - Divide by 3 - Add the departing player's wages There are a lot of caveats and exceptions but it's a quick way to think more realistically in terms of annual costs. So Kelly + Miggy = £30m* in, which is £10m/yr. Combined wages very roughly speaking of £8m%. In theory it could free up about £18m^ per year, which is about a Tonali. some caveats and exceptions... * I can't be bothered to look up what of Miggy's fee would have been left and it's very likely Kelly had a signing bonus we amortised. I just made it £30m for easy math. % Not starting the Kelly wages debate so putting it between £90-100k/wk. The larger numbers on some sites may be nonsense or could be inclusive of signing bonus + add ons ^ Almiron didn't have 3+ years left on his contract so you're still making up funds in some of these years

Even in a world without PSR and where the only thing that matters is the club's cash flow I cannot imagine being even moderately upset or worried about either of these deals.

I will take this falling through harder than Saturday's second half.

It's actually just one season, but three windows sounds more dramatic.

Very annoying that Brighton just let them fix their GD.

I think you have a bit of blinkered memory of the game. It's partially what you said, but they also had some legitimate chances: - Right before halftime Dembele from 12 yards out takes a shot that hits Schar in the chest. Pope was behind him and may have saved it. - Barcola at 66 minutes from 5 yards out and all alone has their best chance of the game. The ball skims off of Pope's knee. If this was one of our players they would have been crucified for not scoring. - Barcola again a minute later is through on Pope and gently pushes the ball into the outside of the net. I cannot imagine the posts about him on a PSG board. - Dembele in the 82nd minute beats Schar and has a chance from five yards out. He misses entirely.

They had 31 shots, 20 inside the box, 7 on target, and 9 that were categorized as "big chances." We blocked 10 shots. Their open play xG was 3.69 vs. 1.26 for us, but in the first half it was 1.63 to 1.24. That feels like it tells the story of the game pretty well to be honest. Dembele, Mbappe, and Barcola all had multiple opportunities. xG has a number of flaws and it's better over a longer sample size than a single game, Just because a team loses on xG doesn't mean they deserved to lose the game, but it's also not inventing numbers out of thin air. If a team's xG is over 3 and they score 0 goals then there are either a million shots, some bad misses and/or some incredible saves/defensive plays.

I generally agree with you. I'm not being negative and have enjoyed every second of the last couple years nor am I frustrated at the recent lack of signings (I mean I am, but not with the club). I do think you're being overly optimistic in thinking we'll catch up commercially within a few years. The timeline on that feels much further out to me if we're able to do it. What we don't have that the other six do (though not all six are the same) is the safety net. Our success at the moment is entirely tied to our current players and manager and they are doing it in the face of financial headwinds. The success of the 'Big 6' is almost pre-ordained by their financial might and they have to actively harm themselves to lose that advantage. As you said, things can go very quickly in football, but that can also turn negative for us and positive for the likes of Man United.
-
I don't think they will get relegated or even come close given the poor quality of the bottom, but looking at the fixtures if they don't get more than a point against Brentford and Man United then their trip to Portman Road at the end of February would be very interesting.
-
If you discount the TCD hyperbole then he's probably closer to right than wrong. We are 12 points ahead of Man United and 17 ahead of Spurs. We will almost certainly finish ahead of both of them this season, but in the grand scheme of things we are nowhere close. Great recruitment and an incredible manager has given us hope, but it's all quite fragile as we have little margin for error.

We will learn a lot when the new accounts come out. We're now dealing with such old information, but the numbers are there and the math can be done. I don't know why every news article drums up another cycle of how do we have no money? I know it feels like an eternity since we bought anyone, but this is actually the first PSR cycle where we haven't done much. We didn't buy in January 2024 because we spent a lot (too much) in the summer of 2023, which we then had to offset in June. When I did the math in the summer I (very roughly) estimated we were at about 79% for UEFA's cost control metric. We need to be under 70%. UEFA runs on a calendar year so if we qualify for Europe then every day of 2025 is relevant. UEFA's rolling three-year acceptable losses are also more strict in terms of the limit than the PLs. The plus side for UEFA's rules is the punishments have at least some transparency (escalating fines) and historically have been comparatively lenient. The wild card in all of this is the uncertainty over what the PL rules will be for 2025/26, and it's not clear to me if the clubs even know exactly what they are working towards. If it is that 70% number to match UEFA then are you getting a point deduction if you are at 71%? Or is it only fines until 80%? Or is it the black box it is now?

They are getting the equivalent of a Bale every season from their new matchday revenue and their commercial growth is like a Kane every year.
-
If we had any sort of backup striker then I might be ready to go as far as saying he’s our single most important player now.
-
We’re now into beat Forest at home and move ahead of them territory.
-
A right footed goodbye goal from Miggy would have been hilarious.
-
Eddie can’t call a game won until we’re up by 3.

Great ball and what a first touch from Isak.

Final third Tino is painful.
