Are there any in our squad that are big boozers?

I'd always assumed Clark and Shelvey are but I dont know where I've got that from.

    From the way they play?

Shelvey is generally like a hungover sluggard and Clark is like a still drunk the morning after daydreamer.

  2. I think the stars were never aligned for Rafa to return.  He would have been the guy because he would have sorted the defense first and guaranteed our survival.  Eddie was not my first choice but I'm still behind him.  Also think we will stay up irregardless of transfer business.  We just need a spark and a bit of belief.

Still don't understand the Tarkowski link, he doesn't look particularly quick, and he's no spring chicken, so not sure he's going to provide much different to what we've already got. Agree, he might be a bit better, but enough to make a difference?  can't see it. We'll just end up with another depreciating asset we've taken from Burnley for big money.

I agree, it would be like getting Lascelles without broken confidence.

It seems like Carlos is dead, Botman dead, Badiashile never got going.  Same for Bremer and some other names that escape my mind.    I don't know who they pivot to.

I think American sports fans seem to get toxic quicker. Like they will regularly boo and abuse their own team in the NFL. Never mind the opposition. Fans aren’t segregated, though. So I suppose we are worse in other ways with football.

Poor ol’ Padres. That’s my team. I only get to support useless teams, apparently

In general American sports fans are quite toxic I think in part because our pro sports are so money oriented.  There's no fan groups or Trusts.  There' no government agencies looking into the price we have to pay for tickets like you have over there.  There is no community feeling for your local club.  So I think there are a lot of fans who think "I paid all this money for tickets and parking and food. I want to be entertained!"  Add some beer and the shit starts.

Even college is bad.  Everything is $ driven and F the fans.  How many fans still go but bear that grudge?

The Pads pummelled us that day.  They hit three bombs all around my section.  I giggled inside.

I had an awful temper as a kid. Suspected ADHD that was undiagnosed, anger management, expelled from school etc.

It’s still not great, but it is a lot better than it was. I used to watch that AFC TV and laugh. But it definitely had a darker side with all the aggression and madness. How the fuck can someone get that angry over football FFS. Unhinged. I can’t imagine being anything like that now.

I suppose in hindsight and looking back. It’s pretty obvious he’s a wrong’un. I used to have my season ticket near to a bloke that was similar. Wishing death on opposing fans, players and refs. Just abhorrent behaviour, really.

I had season tickets to the Mets last season and was genuinely shocked at the stuff fans yelled at opposing players.  Arguments in the stands, the whole nine yards.  One time this guy was pitching in his debut for the Padres and he was from Westchester County.  He had probably 20 friends and family, including children.  Two groups of Mets fans were yelling crap at them.  I mean, c'mon.

  6. 75% of our business, in and out, will likely happen in the last couple of days.  We can't know who to loan or sell until we know who's coming in.  I heard Anderson already has a loan OK'd, we're just waiting for more incomings.  I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

Aye the knee bone's connected to the thigh bone.  If we can't get the central-defender or forwards were after midfield is the next best thing. A good defensive minded one can cover a multitude of sins at the back. To say nothing of the fact that if everybody was fit (Fernandez/Wilson) it would be our weakest part of the field.

Think its the worst I've ever seen.

yeah, I just hope that because the CM chatter is the quietest, it means that we are closing in on one or two.  All the media and twitter chatter is BS, IMO.

I can see what you're trying to do here but you come across like a 79 year old who's just discovered the internet culture war.

I'm 60 and was posting on the interwebs before ManDoon was pissing his bed, sonny. [emoji38]

Is it really reasonable to moan about 'only 2 signings so far'?

Compare that to what we've been used to and who we're currently in talks with after signing Trippier...

A bit like driving a Y reg fiesta for 14 years and then moaning about your Ferrari's self parking function taking 2.6 seconds too long to reverse park imho.

I think its OK to point out the negative.  There are decisions that could have gone better.  I wish we had more certainty but the reality is that we don't.  I'm a bit prickly today and I'll admit it but the, IMO, OTT negativity is, well, annoying.

You’re literally posting stuff like “THEY HAVENG GOT A NEW TEA LADY YET, PIF OUT” as some sort of played out joke in other threads lol. It’s absolutely nothing to do with culture.

What would even be the point of the message board if everyone just logged in and went “yeah everything’s perfect bye guys!”.

    Get over yourself.  Bedwetting snowflake.

Like absolute nonsense like this. 'instant gratification culture' [emoji38]

Sorry I'd prefer we weren't relegated like.

So would I obviously but some of the posts, yours included, scream "self entitled crybaby".

    Was it? Genuine question btw.

If I'm honest, I didn't foresee the unreasonable expectations at all. At least, not this soon. Did these people think we'd just turn into prime Man City within a fortnight?

I'll tell you what doesn't help at all, this 'Richest Club in the Woooorrrld' narrative.

We might have wealthy owners but nobody knows their full intentions and nobody knows their end game so I really think it gives an awful impression and starting point for the likes of PCP to do business from.

I'd be trying to correct that narrative if I was them.

Overall, I can't begin to wrap my head around those people moaning about 'only 2 signings', DOF taking too long etc. Check yourselves man. They've bought the shell of a football club with no soul, heart or infrastructure.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

They appear to have nothing but good intentions.

We clung on to hope during the Ashley era, surely we can have faith now? Surely that's the easiest thing in the world?

I do appreciate the view that we're all so much more passionate about our club now. And I get that, with that passion, comes a desire to be better now but we've got to look at the bigger picture.

The future is bright so let's enjoy the journey.

Totally like the more realistic posts in this thread.

I'm not surprised by the overly negative posts.  We're in the midst of instant gratification culture.  I want what I want and I want it now.

    Off of that stuff though...

The consortium always said it was big picture.  5 years, 10 years.  We're not going to be held victim in an always difficult window.  Re: management, we want the right people in place.  I've said before, it's also more than the footballing side.  Servers, software, staffing.  If Fat Mike didn't wash windows and upgrade the training ground what makes you think he staffed properly and stayed current with technology?

We have ownership with a plan and the resources to carry it out.  They've also been true to their word.  They're going to be thoughtful and deliberate and they want to do it right and they've stuck to that.  They haven't been perfect and that's to be expected but I do think they have done the very best that they could have under the circumstances.  No one wants to go down but who can guarantee we stay up?
