  1. Not sure who the "you" is? I do think that many Newcastle fans are primarily disillusioned because you've been run in a slipshod fashion for years. What I find interesting is that I'm disillusioned despite my club being run better than almost any other club out there for over a decade.
  2. Segun Oluwaniyi[/member] Think you're right about the getting old bit tbh; although there are many reasons to detest the game nowadays they are mostly variations on old ones. Maybe a few scales have fallen from our eyes. I used to enjoy the banter, but the one thing that always got me was "glory-hunters". I had no choice in the matter, grew up in Spurs-land with a father who'd been going since the 50s. Many friends at school simply chose Liverpool to support, and feel batter about themselves. Well done you. I also grew up watching football at a time when it seemed like society was against us, at a point where we were literally put in cages. It was appalling, but did foster a certain togetherness among supporters. Now the advent of the Internet, extensive TV coverage of football and changes to the matchday experience have made football supporting more socially acceptable and more diverse. Good in many ways, but primarily just different. Do I want the old days back? Not entirely. Was it more exciting and fun? Absolutely. Those "glory-hunters" are now more prevalent partly because there are just more supporters in general, and maybe we're more aware of the global "glory-hunters" because of the internet. All those Liverpool or Arsenal keyboard warriors from faraway lands on forums and in internet polls. You can still hit the pub before a game, but otherwise the matchday experience is much changed, for me at least. And, of course, I moved away, which is probably my main driver. Being a Spurs fan has always been an integral part of my identity, in many ways. My heart's just not in the banter in quite the same way it was. A mate's son out here is a City fan - as plastic as you can get, but that comes with the territory here anyway. I try my damnedest not to talk about football with him. A doc at my work is a Barca fan - lived there for a while. We have some banter but I feel like it's just performative on my part. Yesterday I met a nurse in my hospital who has relatives in Hertfordshire - she visits them often and like them is a Spurs fan, she's been to a couple of games this year, toured the stadium etc. We had a nice chat, but I just felt a bit less engaged than I used to be. All this HTT-ing is to say that I can point to hundreds of billions of reasons why football sucks right now, but probably the main reason is that we've just grown apart. It's partly football, but mainly me.
  3. Or they should just suck it up and play somebody out of position, or change formation, or play one of the many kids they've consistently broken the rules to sign *grumble*.
  4. I’ve not been paying attention. Have Barca actually been given special dispensation to ignore the window? I mean, what? it's a la liga agreement that applies to all clubs as far as i understand it - certain circumstances have to be met, player out for x amount months and has to be removed from the squad etc. they can all do it if they met the criteria Ah right, that makes more sense I guess. Not enough sense to be legit because of all the knock-on effects though.

  6. Well, quite. We just lost Son to injury, after Kane - them’s the breaks. How exactly has the Barca situation come about?
  7. Posted this back at the beginning of the season: Jesus and that's as a fan of a club who are going places too. Imagine how we feel Personally I still love it as a neutral and from a fpl perspective I've avoided posting too much about it on here because I was worried I'd overstep the mark. Obviously I've become pretty disillusioned with many aspects of the game, despite my own team being on the up and up. My wife's a Villa fan, and I've had similar conversations with Villa fans, but many of them are suddenly back engaged because their team are not as shite, got promoted, and have spent money. I mean, I get it, but it doesn't change the underlying problems, and it rather suggests that the real season they became disillusioned with football was just that their team were shite at it. Which brings me here, I guess. I didn't post too much about it because I suspect I was concerned I was being a self-righteous bastard who felt walking away while we were good was somehow more meaningful than, say, walking away while Mike Ashley systemically destroys your club. I don't want to be like that. Someone did say essentially "cry me a river", but I truly am sad that the sport I love has come to this. I can't be neutral because I've been a fan for 40+ years - there is no neutral . I still wanted Man U to get stuffed tonight, as soon as I realized they were playing. Anyway, that's my slightly sad rant over, just got off work and going to see if an IPA helps . I don't really want to get into the reasons too much. Suffice it to say, parity and a sense that clubs are truly rooted in their local community is important to me, and is no longer the case at the top level. I'm fortunate, in a way, that my club is doing pretty well, so that it couldn't be dismissed as just being fickle.
  8. Liverpool Leicester Spurs Sheff Utd please.
  9. Some terrific schadenfreude here
  10. There's zero consistency. It's fucking wild. One thing is consistent. The clue is in Pata's post .
  11. Been so disengaged I had no idea you were on the same points as them. Southampton too, who have been good in the small bits I've seen of them.
  12. Ah, booo Scratch that - hooray! Had Salah as vice-captain. On 54pts now with Grealish and Aguero© to come. Been a good last four weeks, actually 8th top scorer so far this month in N-O. Should probably have paid more attention earlier.
  13. There are many Spurs fans who grew up with Hoddle and still think Gazza is the best Spurs player they ever saw.
  14. That Italy trip sounds magic Sewelly, nice one.
  15. I dunno -feels like if you join Barca at 24 then Dortmund at 27 then you’ve probably not had a great three years.
  16. Man, the tough bit is when do you play for your own club? Do you give them your best years or the most money? Presuming they all have to be different: Leyton Orient Ajax Spurs Real Madrid Barca (imagine how good you’d have to be to make that move) Bayern Munich Columbus Crew
  17. They keep on digging these results out. Never seem to let in much.
  18. Will be staggered if they don’t play this next weekend or at least in midweek Presumably logistics will be an issue - policing, transport etc
  19. It will go to the vice but won't count the City game unless they manage to replay it next week and include it in this gameweek.
  20. So much for Aguero ©. Nearly brought in Mahrez for Sterling, but thankfully went elsewhere.
  21. I’m still trying to figure out what this means. You could’ve put the team name and league I'm just glad Mickey Hazard is supplementing his Black Cab income.
  22. I'll take 13 from two players. It's a bit tedious seeing a top score of 78 so far this week. It would be nice if there was an option to "mute" or exclude the divvies who start new teams each week.
  23. Slightly ironically, had he done the same thing at a Spurs match he might have been done for racist behavior anyway. Pathetic decision, mind.
