Keep forgetting Mount is there tbh. Is Casemiro a good possession footballer? Genuine question. Great at patrolling in front of the defense but never seemed particularly creative. Liked the look of Brownhill against us and it does seem like there’s something about him.

It was weird. Like he did his usual trick of drifting into a clever position to draw players out, but there was nobody either marking him closely or staying in the space he’d vacated. Lovely pass, but such an easy goal.

It’s how he wants them to play. Only last year they were doing it against Championship teams. This year you have a few of the same players are trying to do it against Premier League sides. Not sure it will work.

That clash of heads in the Brighton game makes me wonder. The defender was well ahead of the Brighton guy and headed the ball clear cleanly. Then the Brighton guy essentially nutted him. If the defender was kicking the ball clear and the Brighton player got there late with his foot and wiped him out you could well see a red card and certainly a yellow. Because it was with his head it just seems to be waved on.

Think the refs are sometimes generous at this level. That #10 is mustard and just got a toe in - McArthur was tired and late but you could argue not malicious.

Without checking, isn’t this U19? And aren’t the main FA brackets U16, U18 and U21? That might have been the issue from our teams. Many of the U21s would be too old, and the better U18s were playing in U21 so the teams we put out in Europe weren’t used to playing together. Their RW is really fucking good

IIrC there were some quirky rules about age and eligibility in this tournament. Seem to remember we put some weird teams out.

I mean, Inter, Juve, Barca and the top English sides will have a bit of input too. Thought you looked ok for a while there. The fact that (a) their press on your back four is scary but also (b) they’re lethal on the break is not good. No idea how good either team ranks at this age though. I know your youth set-up has been unimpressive for a few years.
