  1. WHAT!!!! Carroll has said he asked for a new contract AFTER liverpool had made a bid, in a bid to get more money from the whole saga which just strikes as utter greed from him and his agent. "I was in talks about a new contract and talking to the gaffer about that. He told me that they are now not going to give me a contract. That was as soon as the offer of £30m came in. So I asked why (I wasn’t getting a new contract) and he said his hands were tied." Where in that does he say he asked for a new contract after Liverpool made the bid? He's saying he was in talks then the club stopped them when the bid was received. Maybe he shouldn't have been looking for a new contract so soon after signing one but it does happen when someone's value increased so quickly, pretty sure Bale did similar at Spurs recently. They did good point, Perfect example of alternative way of dealing with it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1326774/Gareth-Bale-offered-bumper-pay-deal-Europes-big-clubs-plot-swoop.html
  2. I think this is a remarkable circumstance in which Carrolls previously agreed wage doesnt match the rest of the prems idea of his valuation. I think Carroll became obviously very aware of that & tried to use it to alter what he was making. I think we should have reacted to that by negotiating his contract yes. For other players no, in this situation yes. This situation probably hasnt ever happened in football before. Outside of that i doubt Carroll would have created issues if we'd just rejected the bid & wage increase demands. He gets on with the players in the side & loves the club. Adam is in a similar situation at blackpool. There were many other ways to do it, we wanted the money & i dont necessarily agree that it was the best decision for our club. Its just very debateable.
  3. I said it earlier. But say tottenham were offered 35m for VDV instead at that point in the window. Do you think theyd have sold him? Some players are bigger than your clubs current position, vdv is for them & Carroll was for us. We could have pushed for Europe & used that to attract quality players then sold him in the summer if we had to. We couldve just rejected the bid in general & had Ashley invest in us to achieve. We couldve used Carrolls ability & reputation to attract better players also. Just as we did with Shearer. There were other far more ambitious options.
  4. And decide that our poor owner was caught offguard by the whole thing. The poor guy obviously wanted to keep Carroll till he wanted more money. He wanted him out of the door man. We werent rejecting anything, it was all negotations & manipulation. Yeap, after submitting the transfer request. Not before, AFTER. No, he asked for the transfer request after we rejected the 2nd bid. Which happened after Ashley offered him his helicopter. Go read it again. You're being sold nonsense. You clearly don't see that Carroll has been made to be a money grabbing t*** in all of this now. I just proved your claim wrong & you reply with a made up thought about what you think i dont believe. Useful convo.

  7. it means to me that they aren't prepared for players to take the piss. if carroll wanted the new contract at the end of the season after having a good season then he may have had a point...not 3 month after agreeing a contract just because someone has bid for him and that is the crux here, he wouldn't have been wanting a new contract if liverpool hadn't bid and offered huge wages. pure greed. Ofcourse he wouldnt have wanted it otherwise. Surely a bid of 35 million for a player changes things quite drastically no? This is a remarkable situation. If someone is being valued by anywhere near that much he isnt usually on anywhere near 30k a week.
  8. How can anyone take this: And decide that our poor owner was caught offguard by the whole thing. The poor guy obviously wanted to keep Carroll till he wanted more money. He wanted him out of the door man. We werent rejecting anything, it was all negotations & manipulation.
  9. Not sure its quite like that. We didnt bash away their offers till Carroll said he wanted to go, we were openly listening to their offers. Carroll agreed to go yes, which we then used to strengthen our position in the transfer & knock back another bid in the knowledge that a transfer was still likely. We probably told pool that he was up for going. Its basic stuff. He says Ashley told him he wasnt wanted & gave him his helicopter ffs Hes hardly going to make it up to that extent. Ashley wasnt caught offguard by this, wish people would stop trying to claim he was. He loved it.
  10. Shearers view: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9383179.stm
  11. Just went to sort my team out a bit, there he is with a red shirt. Weird as fuck.
  12. aye, "forced" to leave can be taken many ways - to be honest i think in a sense they have very much forced him...he knew what he could get and would probably have been happy to stay in toon if we'd met in the middle, as it is they'll have known that not offering any increase at all would force his hand they get t/fer request that absolves them of blame and also pocket 35m quid to boot well played fat boys Basically how i feel about it yeah, it worked out very nicely for them
  13. he had gotten a new improved deal a few months ago, whats supposed to be done just hand out new contracts every few months? No as you dont get clubs offering 35mill & to triple a players wages every few months do you. You do your best to hold onto your best players its quite simple. Offering him more than 30k a week would hardly be ridiculous for his potential.
  14. Its a remarkable circumstance. I doubt theres many players on 20/30k who are being valued at 35 million by other sides. We clearly could have negotiated the situation with him if we'd wanted to.
  15. This is what i thought the whole time. Carroll is basically stating that he was forced out as no footballer is going to turn down such a huge increase in wages. We made no attempt whatsoever to negotiate an increase in his, regardless of much he is now being valued & he asked to leave. I still think we could have done better. We wanted the money. You can have a go at Carroll, but i dont see a single footballer in his position turning down such a move. Nothing to do with loyalty, its a massive difference in how much you're valued by a club.
  16. Take away Carrolls goals & assists this season we'd be on 21 points, joint bottom. Take away purely his goals we'd be on 24 pts, 2 points off the relegation zone. What a ridiculous post. We'd have someone else playing instead, who could have scored more. Every game would be shaped differently. Seriously, f***ing stupid. I answered his Q lad, its hardly ridiculous. Ofcourse you're basically playing the game with 10 men instead. But unless you believe any of our other strikers would have had an equal impact to Carroll then it points out how important hes been.
  17. Well yeah you're basically playing all those games with 10 men instead. Its not easy to believe whoever took Carrolls position would have had an equal impact though. Take away Carrolls goals & assists this season we'd be on 21 points, joint bottom. Take away purely his goals we'd be on 24 pts, 2 points off the relegation zone. So..what happens if you take away Sholas goals and assists? The natural order of things is restored
  18. Take away Carrolls goals & assists this season we'd be on 21 points, joint bottom. Take away purely his goals we'd be on 24 pts, 2 points off the relegation zone.
  19. Sure, and I'm not saying that, but we did get Ben Arfa, Enrique, Barton, Tiote for half of what we sold Carroll so there is a lot of bargaining to do out in the football market. We need to look outside of the GB islands. There are many young players to be had, and while they might not want to come here it's up to us to finish strong this season and try to convince them. Striker is a different position though. If a strikers good hes scoring goals & that doesnt really go under the radar like a players ability in another position could do. People notice, teams bigger than us. You gotta remember we spent 11 million on Martins & the most he scored for us in the league was 11 goals. You can throw away money easily for fowards, thats why its valuable having one doing the business.
  20. Stop posting in caps lock please, grow up. And yes it is a ridiculous fee. Blackpools were willing to let Charlie Adams go for £15 million I heard. He's more vital to that team than Carroll was to us. £36 million is ridiculous fee for a player who has proven himself in the top tier for only 6 months. I'm still gutted like but for that money you could buy two good strikers who will make us a better and probably one or two young players who can develop. Finding two good strikers who'll do the business in the prem for a club in our position is a lot easier in theory than in reality. Us having potentially more money than usual doesnt mean players will suddenly be desperate to come here.
  21. Why is he still here then? Some right weirdos on this forum, everything is a conspiracy theory. "Aliens must of abducted Andy!! - he's my f***ing idol!!!" Stick to looking at the pictures if i were you
  22. Do you blame him for not turning down a 50k pay increase though? Would any other player show that sort of loyalty, let alone at Carrolls age & from a position of being on a very low wage in relation to what clubs are valuing him at. Im not sure theres much to have a go about
  23. My thought as well. I think 35m is a ridiculous offer and Ashley cannot turn it down. Therefore he left the decision to Carroll. That's probably what Carroll said "he told me to go". Bullshit. If Ashley did want to sell Carroll or Carroll did not want to leave us, he would not make the transfer request. Ofcourse he can turn it down. You say "No our player is not for sale" its quite simple. Then if Carroll says "But these lot think im class and are gonna triple my wage", you say "we'll meet you half way as we want to keep our best players & we value you as much as they do if not more" Im not sure you could hold it against Carroll to use the situation to get a pay rise, when seperate clubs are bidding near or over 30m for the lad & hes getting praise from some of the best managers in the game. I realistically doubt a footballer currently exists that would turn down a 50 grand wage increase regardless of who hes playing for. None of them would, loyalty isnt involved with those kind of numbers.
  24. If its to be believed we actually tried yesterday, we'll surely now go after Nzog again in the summer if he was their first thought. Prob for around 10m again.
