The thing with Hughton to was he built this team spirit which has been hugely important for us. When our performances were bad, we did well the next week & never really got into a poor run. He built that determination. So we sacked him & now we've no idea whether Pardews capable of that. We saw in the relegation season its pretty disasterous if players heads go down.

And Carroll knows we're not paying the sort of wages Liverpool were going to offer him anymore. Liverpool offered big money and the wages he thinks he deserves, we can't afford that anymore unfortunately. One of those things. We dont know that we needed to match their wages to get him considering things. Either way, it was our choice to sell him fullstop. Just dont accept the offer and hes ours, hes not going to cause issues when half the team are his mates & he's playing for his local club. The team spirit was great. Just tell him his contract will be renegotiated in the summer & reject any offers. Simple.

the problem is he cries in the chronicle and to wraith i didn't want to go oh woe is me etc etc when he could have quite easily not gone there is no way he could have been forced out I dont believe he did want to go. He couldnt quite easily turn down such a massive wage increase & the differences in valuation of his worth as a player from both clubs. We made no attempt to keep him and basically told him to leave. He wasnt literally forced out no, but he probably feels like he was forced to change his mind as to whether he wanted to stay here. He was told they'd renegotiate his contract in the summer, which 3 months after signing a new one seems reasonable to me tbh. Its reasonable yes, but sometimes you have to meet someone in the middle when theyre being slightly unreasonable if theyre of massive worth to you

Agree with Gemmil. I dont really understand the bitterness towards Carroll really to the extent that some on here have it. Its crap that he agreed to go, but put in his position all footballers would make that choice. Thats the world they live in.

It is laughable, we're never the luckiest team but ffs. You can add in the injuries & deflected goals we've conceded to all that.
-
We barely crosses the ball tonight with two big lads our main threat. Barton in particular i dont think managed a single cross in open play. Poor effort.
-
Tiote back next is a HUGE plus for us, should bring some more calmness/confidence to our play. Ben Arfa later in the season. Both could be key.
-
On what basis? No Carroll. And we've never won a game without Carroll. Obviously. Or No Ameobi for a while & we've no Carroll to come in at any point now hes out. Its pretty bad based on todays showing.
-
Well this has been a great few days
-
Get in the box ffs
-
Cmon lads do something
-
Wow an actual cross and we do something useful, big suprise
-
Just cross the fucking ball
-
Just not doing much, lots of basic passing. Bartons & simpson have avoided crossing several times preferring to piss it around, same with enrique & Jonas. Just whip some balls in the box.

We;re not playing to badly, we just look clueless when we get near their area

Tbf to Nolan ive read it again and i misread it. Thought it said when HE (Carroll) first heard about the move he asked Nolans opinion. As in, Carroll hadnt agreed to it yet. Actually says when we first heard about the move he asked. So Nolan didnt have much involvement in the decision i dont think.
-
Of course the club never wanted to sell him. Think thats whats bugged me the most. The club trying to play the whole "oh poor us how did this happen, cant believe this". When its clearly complete bs. Theres no reason for us to believe that if their valuations for our other players are met at any point they wont just move them on also, but they want us to believe there is.
-
Liverpool were definately desperate. We'd likely have not got near 35m in the summer so both sides wanted to push this through.
-
Still think we shouldve just negotiated his contract. Though the kind of owners that would do that, are the kind of owners id be more likely to trust 35m with also.
-
Dont like the fact that he says when Carroll first heard the move he asked Nolan opinion, who was delighted for him. Meaning our captain basically told our best player to go to another club he supports. Not sure how you can not be arsed about that.

"Reassurances That Every Penny Will Be Reinvested In The TEAM."
Jayson replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
It wont be easy finding good players that have the impact we want in the prem. Enrique & Colo both took a decent period of time to get going. Ben Arfa's situation was pretty unusual in terms of his ability & how much it was being used. Tiote is the only real normal signing who has come in and done the business straight away. Even then again at prev club he was often used as a sub. Its not simple. Especially trying to find a class striker that will do the business and want to come here over others. Easiest way is players already doing the biz in the prem & their prices will be inflated. -
He shouldn't have said anything about Shearer's record as a manager (which is hard to judge anyway). His managerial record is terrible, that is obvious. Its massively debatable whether thats down to him much atall which you should know, as theres been endless debates on it.
