Played v well the last two games for me. Going for far more runs past players, compared to his first few games back from injury where he did little. If he wasnt so disasterously unconfident/appauling infront of goal his movement would of gotten him two goals on monday.
-
Some of you saying he doesnt create in the box need to rewatch the game. You're oblivious to whats happening clearly.
-
Carroll & Ranger upfront is all we need. That partnership will work and score goals, it already has done loads of times. Its just being ignored. Once Ranger gets a goal, those two will be a v good partnership.

That's what everyone keeps holding on to, but how exactly? He's far from vital and has only seemed to be of real use in (part of) a handful of games. Rest of the time just a frustrating waste of time. He certainly isn't the reason we are top. But thats not based on much is it. For all you know all the times jonas carried it out of our area could have resulted in them keeping possession and actually creating & scoring a chance. Any player that drives us fowards is have a beneficial effect. He was far more useful than Guthrie & Nolan for the majority of the game yesterday. Those two just produced in the key moment. It may not have been enough without Jonas carrying the majority of our attack for the main portion of the game. All jonas did wrong yesterday was miss two absolute sitters. Thats it. All the waffling about him being selfish or unable to provide is based on nothing but nonsense.

FYP. I agreed that goalkicks are beneficial? why do you think people prefer goalkicks to corners, because it relieves pressure. If it involved skill from Harper to get us goalkicks instead of corners, then yes that would be a good useful benefit which he should get credit for. We're on the front foot, instead of defending a potential goal scoring situation for the opposition. But its not down to any skill of his own, so he doesnt. What do you disagree with?
-
I focus on the positives in response to people going over the top about his negatives. Ofcourse i saw him falling on his ass & flailing it over the bar in the final minutes. I agree that hes disasterous at finishing and wastes clear goalscoring chances. He could be better at crossing also yes. I like when he runs with the ball tbh. Either that or what, smith having shots from outside the area? We were hardly knocking it about with skill when Jonas wasnt on the ball, dunno what ppl are looking foward to instead of Jonas going for it. As i said earlier aswell, i can name 3 clear chances to score he created today, so he doesnt just lose the ball. Its an overexaggeration based on mainly his woeful finishing & the fact that hes normally 20 yards ahead of the rest of our players because hes gone on one of his bursting runs fowards. So ofcourse sometimes he loses it
-
Well goalkicks do relieve pressure yes? but its not really down to the work of the goalkeeper is it. Its down to the opposition missing, so i dont really see the comparison or how that makes my point ridiculous. To break it down. Jonas> runs with ball> entire team move fowards> opposition moves backwards > loses ball/gets throwin/gets corner/gets freekick/ falls over> we end up in a better position. Another player> plays long ball> we lose ball instantly> ball comes back quickly> team has no time to get fowards or and relief whatsoever> we remain under pressure
-
Put in some decent passes when he got the ball around the area. But he plays with his back to goal & looks useless because of it. Plays like a target man & wins no headers. Gets muscled off the ball if it goes past him and the defender. Its all just a bit crap really. Wouldnt start him atall, he wont be getting any goals at this rate & he doesnt provide much else like Ranger has shown he can.
-
Ive no idea what you're waffling about atall really, or how you've come to that conclusion. Jonas relieves pressure on his own, by bursting out of our half continually & going past several of their players. Or he makes runs for our other players to put long passes fowards through to him, to once again give us possession deeper in their half and relieve the rest of our team. We've already seen what happens when he isnt there, thats whats so ridiculous about this whole argument. We boot it long, we lose the ball because we booted it long & then we get put under pressure again. This is repeated endlessly. Then people like you moan about us not "getting the ball down". Only for the one player who does get the ball down and run with it, to be the next main player you end up moaning about because he cant single handedly sprint past everyone AND finish or setup someone else instantly. I find it laughable really.
-
Except im not ignoring it atall. Im just not focusing my entire viewpoint on his annoying flaws and ignoring all the strengths he used to get into those advanced positions in the first place. Its a simple argument as i say. Id prefer a player who gets into the positions to miss in the first place, than one who doesnt. You want a player who passes, but your basing your ideas on the assumption that theyd end up in the same positions Jonas finds himself in. Which is the big shortsighted issue. Taking for granted his strengths so you can focus on the cocks ups as i keep saying.
-
Thats why we're always seeing players in this divison run the length of the pitch with the ball. That happens constantly doesnt it, no skill involved atall ofcourse. Not like you're taking his strengths for granted whatsoever. Ofcourse goals come from his attacking play, it doesnt necessarily happen directly always. Indirectly, ofcourse his runs end up with an attacking move. If he wasnt there, we'd likely be camped far more in our own half defending and nowhere near the oppositions area for about 30% more of the game.

And what do you propose to do about that? Lets see if Lennon, Young, Arteta, Malouda etc want to have a go with us. Just because we can't get Lennon or Young means I should be happy with Jonas? Name a replacement you would be happy with. I can't name one off the top of my head. But my point stands, it doesn't mean that I should b happy with him. This. It is an absolutely ridiculous view to take. You can't call a player s**** because there is no viable alternative Jonas is an awful footballer. Me saying this does not mean I believe we should go out and buy Aaron Lennon because I know that isn't possible. My opinion of one player is not altered because there isn't somebody better immediately available. I understand the team is stuck with him but you can f*** off if you think i'm going to pretend he's something he patently is not. But its a pointless position to start from. If we're judging them in comparison to all the other players we know, then theyre all s***. If we're judging them in comparison to eachother & the current standard of footballer we are able to sign. Jonas if one of our most useful players. How can a player that always loses the ball be one of our most useful players? I reckon we could get a more useful player for the left tbh. (cue "AYEE WHY NOT GO FOR LENNON!!!!!1111") Well he doesnt always lose the ball probably, thats why. He could have set up 3 goals today if our other players had done better. He put Carroll? through first half, crossed a ball in later which nolan put back across goal, Ranger blocked the pass to put Guthrie through 2nd half. Then you're ignoring the corners/throw ins in advanced positions that moves the entire side fowards. Id say you're massively taking for granted Jonas's movement and ability on the ball if you think we'd be able to replace him well. Its easier to notice the missed chances & ignore everything that happened in the build up.

Player who's constantly making bursting runs but sometimes loses the ball > player who doesnt get close enough to it to lose it in the first place. His weakness is his finishing, his movement to get into the box today was better than both Ranger & Carrolls though. Missing is just more obvious.
-
Yes - agree with every word of that. x2 People are blind if they see no value in a guy who can burst out of your defense and put the opposition all the way back into their half. Sometimes it will come to nothing, sometimes it will be useful. He put in several good crosses today, then you have the ball Ranger stopped. Then the corners we get. You cannot ignore the space, rest, time etc he gives the rest of our ENTIRE side with his running purely because he sometimes cocks up the finish. Talk about ridiculously short sighted
-
you cant say he isnt entertaining
-
Harsh on Guthrie imo, otherwise more or less bang on. He was woeful at times man. He gave the ball away far too much. And then set up the winner. Made mistakes tonight, but hes one of our better midfielders.
-
Some of this is embarassing. Jonas could run maradona style past their entire side & fluff the finish through exhaustion You'd call him crap for missing. Nonsense opinions
-
Carroll ill apparently. So prob why he was taken off early.
-
People are nuts. Jonas had a very good game.
-
Guti our worst player? Not a chance. One of our better players easily. Being crap at finishing doesnt take away from the rest of his contribution
-
Far more about the oppositions strikers than our defence on that showing
-
Good stuff 3 points, happy days. Lets please not play Harewood anymore

Also their player basically ripping off Niles shirt
