Remember a quote last year from a Dutch fan who reckoned Smith was better than Tioté. I decided from then on that I'd save all judgement of new signings until I'd seen them play for NUFC.

Out of interest who would you say plays a faster tempo of game? I'd say Man U at their best and the Chelsea of a couple of seasons ago, but for 90% of last season they were about as slow and laborious as physically possible for a team with their quality of players - especially Chelsea. Man U looked great the other night, mind.

The game is slow paced when they want it to be. It's also faster than anybody else in the world when they up the tempo. Not meaning to be condescending at all.

Combative Creative Not too dissimilar They're absolutely NOTHING alike. Diarra is an energetic, technically gifted, tactically disciplined defensive midfielder. He has a fantastic engine and tackling ability and is one of the best in the world at his role. Barton is almost exclusively a right sided midfielder with good passing and crossing ability when allowed the time but not great at getting about the pitch and offers not a great deal defensively. Honestly, they could barely be less alike.

Yep. Remember their game against Arsenal a couple of years ago (the one where Zlatan scored twice), that first half they were relentlessly attacking them from the get-go. It was almost embarrassing. Try telling the players that spend all game chasing shadows and have opposition in their faces the moment they get the ball that Barca's game is slow paced.

How on earth is Barton an alternative to Diarra?
