What has he done to prove he's a 'top midfielder'? No goals, no assists this season. Poor physically, poor workrate, can't tackle, can't dribble, can't shoot, shite set pieces, doesn't get into the box. Short passing game is poor, regularly plays the wrong pass. The only attribute he has, is the odd spectacular pass - which so far has managed to create one goal this season against Liverpool. The idea that he's a 'top midfielder' is beyond insane. He's dreadfully limited.

Being able to pull off hollywood balls now and again doesn't make you a great passer. It's about having a range of passing and playing the right ball at the right time. Shelvey certainly has good technique, but his choices are often abysmal, meaning he's poor at setting the tempo of a game. He has a multitude of weaknesses as a central midfielder beyond that, anyway.

We've been after Wilson since he was still at Cov. I think he's decent (18 in 46 in the PL) but very injury prone.

I couldn't see Sturridge starting for Inter since they rigidly play with one striker, and the wide positions are filled with out and out wingers. I think I've read before that Sturridge has wanted to play abroad at some point in his career, though.

Was a canny trip yesterday. A bit depressing re-visiting the Etihad for the first time since 2010. The difference in quality of players is one thing, and we're all well aware of it, but also the level of investment that has gone into their stadium in the intervening period. SJP really is a million miles behind the top clubs these days, despite having by far the best location of any stadium in the country. Took my mate who's visiting from Korea. Didn't realise there was different separated levels in the stadium, so I lost the poor bugger as we went into the ground . Fans were on good form though and he had a fantastic experience because of that. Match was a good enough performance in the face of things. Murphy is talented. It's all about personality for him - a bit more arrogance and he'll be a canny player.
