  1. Is it wrong to love Colo? I mean, genuine affection. Course not you bender.
  2. Played Shola. He really is a different proposition against these lot.
  3. Have a feeling Barton could be really important for us tomorrow, will be interesting to see if their lot try to wind him up.
  4. Aye, terrible idea. Would make up for everything imo. They like us, they really like us.
  5. As said above I doubt very, very much that Enrique would have signed and went on like everything was hunky dory if offered another 10 grand a week, so the 'greed / players feel they deserve a rise with each new contract' argument holds no sway whatsoever for me, it's just another distraction from the blindingly fucking obvious.
  6. Well I'm sure he also saw Liverpool as a club with better prospects, but this resentment he feels, this need to snipe at the Board, stems from the contract he was offered. We'd like you to stay, but only on the same money is a bit of a mixed message. Underlying that is the suggestion that he's already being paid more than enough, and the club won't offer a penny more. I don't think the solution is to pay more than a player is worth. Over the last few months, the club seems to have been able to bring in some decent players on lower salaries who don't seem to have a problem with the club's 'ambition'. I wholeheartedly disagree that the wage offered was the main issue here, but then again I'm one of those that thinks he only started getting itchy feet when Hughton left and Carroll was sold. I also think there's a possibility he'd have stayed if we'd made moderately ambitious moves in the transfer market this summer after having sold Carroll. He's 25 years old - the idea of treading water for another 3+ years of his career was the main motivator here and another 5 or 10 grand a week wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference.
  7. Yep, simple as that, this one. Enrique didn't simply move on for a pay rise man ffs, howay.
  8. Actually that's what the Chronicle say in that article quoted earlier on as well ("His double against Sunderland last term also elevated his place in Geordie folklore following another impressive brace back in 2005 in a 3-2 win"), hence their headline "Shola Ameobi eyes seven-up at Sunderland". I just had it down as one of those dubious ones and never heard one way or the other so assumed it was Shola's.
  9. Yeah, I just Googled it and it's weird because the BBC match report says: Yet the bit at the bottom says "Goals: Ameobi 34, Caldwell 37 og, Emre 63". Must have been taken off Ameobi later on and that does ring a bell.
  10. Think he got 2 that day.
  11. Wow, I really don't think Harper's been that bad at all and this other guy's never even played in the Premier League. He's slow to react, his distribution is piss poor, plus he has such a lack of urgency when he receives the ball. Especially if we're looking to play a "pass and move game" this season, that's a big hindrance. As the amount of times he takes forever to get rid of the ball really irks me, then he just boots it long anyway. I also hate it when he takes a goal kick and he does that thing whereby he looks like he's just taken a blow to the stomach. Fair points, particularly about him taking forever to get rid of the ball which also gets on my tits, but he's easily an adequate back-up imo. Having someone with his experience to come in if needed is a big plus. Having Elliott as second choice is another one of these risks that could blow up in our faces.
  12. If that's the case then happy days, fair enough.
  13. Wow, I really don't think Harper's been that bad at all and this other guy's never even played in the Premier League.
  14. You assume correctly, but Harper's performances over the last 2 seasons haven't been as bad as made out on here at all. He's a half decent Premier League goalkeeper and signing a League 1 keeper to replace him is another massive risk at the very least. Bet he's much cheaper though, swings and roundabouts. As I say I just hope we keep Harper.

    Alan Pardew

    Actually raised a chuckle, that.
