If that was a "gifted" goal every penalty is, or indeed every goal, because without people making mistakes there wouldn't be (m)any goals. Fair enough. I describe it as "gifted" because if he'd paid attention to the flight of the ball and just let it run instead of making the foul there would have been no goal. Fouling cost his team the goal. He actively caused his team to go behind. If he'd done nothing they'd still be level. To me, that's gifting Algeria a pen/goal.

Maybe, but Croatia didn't have to face such a defensive team. I think Belgium will actually be more effective given a bit more space. Possibly. Personally I think they need something to happen to get them over their nerves and get a bit more aggressive.

Belgium have enough to go on and win this game but I stand by my pre-tournament statement of Croatia having a better team based on these early games.

I think their problems stem from nerves rather than flawed tactics. They strolled to qualification with basically the same team. It's the weight of expectation.

I'd be more worried about Belgium's complete inability to control a football or move faster than a light jog.
