Spain have been trying quite a few early balls over the top though and are looking for the striker a lot quicker than in the past. Exactly, all based on a stereotype that's not really accurate anymore. Spain still play possession football, as the stats will no doubt show. They're more purposeful than in the past but they're still desperate to hang on to the ball as much as possible. I'm not advocating needless hoofing, either. I just like the contrast of a team doing so much work to have it all undone so easily by one good counter.
