Let’s get all defensive about Newcastle (warning: contains stats)
Village Idiot replied to Dave's topic in Football
I guess you should compare it to other clubs though, before reaching definite conclusions. I'm sure that most goals are scored from a central position within the box, so you might not have such a problem there compared to the average team. What's exactly considered a "clearance" in this statistic? Also would love to have a stat for interceptions, tackles are just a part of defending. To me, the really good defenders are the ones that don't allow the ball to reach the attacker they are marking to begin with. -
Yeah, I liked that design a lot to to be frank, and it related well to the Art Noveau architecture the city is most famous for. But it was thrown out by the new board, insanely expensive too. The led light thing pushed in today's article does sound very tacky. Our stadium turned into a shiny rotating Nike billboard.

Another report today in the Barcelona newspaper "Sport" about the possibility of building a new Camp Nou. It would be a 110k seater and the suggested location - truth be said - would be great and much more accessible than the current one. They say they are planning on partly financing it by installing a led light skin that would work as a gigantic billboard (SIGH), as we have done with our new youth facilities. Same report says that renovating the Camp Nou is considered almost unfeasible, as the new regulations on the use of concrete and the age of the material used in 1957 would demand a vast rebuilding of the stadium. I'm certainly not against a new stadium (the Camp Nou really shows its age), as long as we don't sell the name rights and it stays within Barcelona (unlike Espanyol's).

Just read it, not good news since a few months ago it was believed he was healing up well. Keep strong, Abi.

For some morbid reason I'd love to see Torres graphed there. I remember a thread on RAWK about Torres becoming the fastest to get 100 PL goals.

Barcelona will not want to play them mind. Why? Because whilst Barcelona will have the will of Catalonia behind them, Chelsea will carry the will of the entire British people (and empire too). We'll be fucked about Catalan support given all the drunk brits in our beaches, too.

Barcelona will not want to play them mind. Why? Chelsea just seem to have a nack of how to play against your lot. What like the last time they played? 3 years ago, and we still got through at the end. Really, I can understand where he's coming from but a) they always used their athleticism against us, and they are too old to do that anymore b) our record against them is actually quite good c) we are actually a better team now that in 2009 while Chelsea have gone to shit.

the programme sponsored by lethal sangria or something? Just to show that our punditry is as awful as yours

Spanish commentary: "Torres is having a fine game".

ET, this can be epic.

The more I see him, the more convinced I am that David Luiz isn't a defender.
-
To be Frank I'd expect the commentary of an English TV to get behind the English team.

Inler scored another amazing bullet against Villarreal, got some shooting on him.

Tie on. I'd rather Napoli went through, but more fun if Chelsea makes it tight.
-
There, Higuaín 1-0 Time to go back to Chelsea - Napoli.
-
Couldn't resist watching them, eh
-
Yellow for timewasting against the CSKA keeper, yet they are out as the score stands...
-
Mark González, the Chilean boy wonder? He's not even on their bench. To be fair he was always decent in his La Liga stints.
-
Aye, going to watch this instead of RM - CSKA. If Chelsea have a good go it will be very exciting. Madrid will just maul the Russians.
-
Ah, so that's where ManU's Tosic ended up. Benzema benched for Higuaín, although he's probably not fully fit after coming back from injury.

Interview with Valdés today, where he names Ronaldo (the fat one) as the best striker he's faced.

I thought you were brilliant against Spurs in the second half. One of those games that despite being down you are sure you're getting something.

Indeed, also Alba could be on his way to Barca if the rumours are to be believed although i heard Valencia signing Griezmann is also a option which quite frankly would be a fantastic signing. Griezmann has been making sounds about wanting to play at a higher level for a while now. Valencia would be just right for him, I think.
